We chose Koyaobay Pavillions because it is isolated and has traditional, rustic decor, and for the most part it lived up to our expectations and we really enjoyed ourselves.
There are three villas facing the beach and pool and two larger houses behind with their own private pools. Each of the three villas has it's own 'Sala' (undercover hang-out area with hammocks, daybeds, chairs, table). We had the middle villa and it was lovely. The bed, although wooden and beautifully traditional looking, was very hard, uncomfortable and squeaky (not for honeymooners). We slept with our doors open (it feels very safe there) and woke up looking at the ocean, which was special. The bathroom, including outdoor shower and adjoining outdoor garden was a feature and toilet was clean and modern.
The beach is nice and it's great to have no-one on it, but you can only swim when the tide is in, which is for around 5-6 hours per day. At other times sharp coral and thick mud is uncovered. The restaurant has an extensive menu but at any given time only certain meals are available. My husband loved all the fresh seafood (all caught locally), but I struggled as a vegetarian. The manager and host Olivier is very nice, the service is patchy as it's only a small kitchen and they prepare food for each table one by one. This didn't really worry us as we were very relaxed on our holiday. The massages available in the Thai Sala were great. Overall we really enjoyed our time, the main disappointment was that we went there for peace and quiet, and we had a family in the villa next to ours that had two children who were lovely but extremely loud and squealing all day long so it really destroyed our plans for peace and quiet. We hired a jeep and did a round of the island but there isn't much happening. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves.

Thank you for your inspiring review and detailed comments. It is always a pleasure to hear that Koyao Bay Pavilions lived up to your expectations.
Regarding the two young children that "were lovely but extremely loud and squealing all day long", I would like to point out that the family staying there was one of the last bookings confirmed we had to deliver, before our child policy was enforced. We now reserve all three Beach Pavilion Suites for couples only, and families with children may enjoy privacy and tranquility as well in one of our two-bedrooms Cottages and Villas located further in the valley.
Although we spent 4 times more money in our premium Dunlopillo mattresses than most 3-4 stars hotels in Thailand, we are truly sorry that you weren't satisfied with the quality of our bedding. Standard mattresses in Asia are very hard, in order to cope with the ambient warmth and avoid heavy sweating. To suit western comfort as much as possible, we have therefore selected intermediate softness . As for the noise, I will look into it immediately to find a remedy, as, even though half of our guests in the Beach Pavilions are honeymooners, it is the first time I have such comment about our skilfully carved, antique four-posters beds...
Having witnessed during your stay that I was working day and night to cope with the unexpected staff shortage at that particular time, and making twice-daily recommendations and special purchases to ensure variety of vegetarian dishes for yourself, I have to admit that I find it quite stiff to read that "at any given time only certain meals are available", that you "struggled as a vegetarian", and that "service was patchy"...
All in all, we are very grateful for pointing out the slight flaws we need to improve, and hope that we will have the opportunity to deliver more suitable products and services during your next stay at Koyao Bay Pavilions.
Warm regards,
Olivier
