“Total rip-off: a hotel which has seen better days”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This hotel almost ruined our vacation - we intended to stay longer but couldnt stand the place any more after 2 nights. The details:

Let s start with the few positive points:
+ beautiful, remote setting
+ good food
+ they take Amex (as you can see I m really trying to find a few nice things to mention)

Here come the cons
- the place is old and run down. Obviously, no investments have been made in recent years
- rooms are simple and not very clean, beds, linen, towels, cushions, armchairs etc worn out
- the whole hotel is quite bady kept: at first sight it looks ok but if you look more closer into the less obvious spots you ll see quite a lot of trash lying around
- while the main pool is clean, our jacuzzi was a filthy puddle
- prices are sky-high. Since the hotel is very remote there are no alternatives than to purchase food, sightseeing tours, sports etc at the hotel at incredible prices. They keep their price monopoly by charging you 20 USD for a 10 minute boat ride to the next village (one way!). Given the low quality of the hotel in general prices are way too high
- service is practically non-existant. The concept is unknown. Staff (including the hotel manager) doesnt care about guest issues. E.g. we had a bat in our room (incl droppings on the bed). Something like this can happen if you travel to remote places in Thailand - so no problem. The question is how the hotel handles this. In our case they decided to completely ignore it despite several (at first very friendly and understanding) complaints: no offer to move us into another room, no action taken, nothing
- the beach is ok but very effected by low tide so not usable half of the day. That s something you need to live with in all of Phang Ngha Bay. Worse is that the hotel promises a free boat shuttle to a beach which offers an alternative but when trying to do so we were told we need to book the shuttle three days in advance

Dont get me wrong: if you re paying say 30 USD a night/person for this place you ll probably find it quite acceptable. If you re paying the 5-star prices they usually charge you ll find way better places in Thailand to spend that amount of money on

Dear Berlin, Germany

We do apologise for any inconvenience during your stay with us and please know that
I am genuinely concerned about the issues you expressed during your review.

Our guests appreciate that we are in a totally exclusive private location, which is considered a highlight and we have devised Paradise "signature" tours that reflect a totally unique experience and excellent value for money.

During your stay we were operating at 100% occupancy therefore we were unable to
move you to another room as we had discussed during our phone conversation and we did our best to resolve the issues for you. We explained that it was simply impossible to move you because there were in facts absolutely no more rooms available for another few days.

Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to express your opinions and assure you that we have taken your comments on board & resolved the issues you outlined in your review. Hopefully you still had a great time & enjoyed your time in Thailand!

Warmest Personal Regards

Nadine Oliver

Paradise is aptly named! A beautiful secluded hotel which is only accessible by speedboat from Phuket. The rooms were fantastic. We stayed in the pool villa with our own plunge infinity pool that lead onto the beach with our own deck chairs and even our own hammocks swinging between the palm trees! The food was first class and varied every night, although it would have to be because the hotel is so isolated you can't go anywhere else! However the hotel does provide day trips (for a fee) so you can still go kayaking, snorkeling etc. If you are looking for some quality time with your loved in a beautiful setting then this is the hotel for you.

“Not Paradise”

i spent a week here and found the place very tired. the rooms are way past their used by date and not so comfortable.
i took a massage which was very expensive and less then relaxing thanks to constant sound of hammering and heavy machinery as the work shed is behind the spa area.
food is less then impressive . one lunch we ordered to steak sandwiches medium rare and they came well done. what a saga sending them back. after that we decided to just put up with it if when food was wrong. the only good meals are breakfasts and the only nice buffet was the Thai buffet but every other theme night was lack luster.
wines are very overpriced. we recognized some of the wines on the list as we use them for cooking wines but here they sell them for nearly $50 when we can but them for just a few euro . one Australian wine named Vines sells for just 5 euro but they sell this for about $40!!!. one night we had a Spanish rose that was undrinkable and like vinegar. food in the European restaurant is ordinary again. one dish is described as "pasta with meat"??? what type of pasta or meat.
evening meals are not relaxing with many children running around and playing. we found it very stressful and usually retired to our room early.
would not recommend this to couples wanting a romantic escape or to any gastronomic enthusiasts . if you want a cheap holiday and not too fussy you may appreciate this resort.

Dear Karel,

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion online for us to improve our services. I only wish we had the opportunity to learn of your experiences during your stay with us! Perhaps I could have made your stay all the more enjoyable with a few simple tweaks.

The island chic theme complements the region & our rooms are purposefully built into the natural environment to enhance that feeling for our guests which is usually a highlight.

Just to let you know that Thailand has a very high tax on luxury goods & wine is considered one such commodity...we keep our wines at an affordable price for our guests compared with other resorts! Considering our resort is in such a private remote location, our food and beverage is considered excellent value for money at $10 for a meal & drink is hardly outrageous, however everyone has their own sense of value of course & opinions!

We do hope you have other great memories of your stay here with us, despite your comments

“Beautiful”

We stayed in this hotel as part of our honeymoon. We had a lovely greeting when we arrived. Our room was perfect. I found I was getting bitten alot so the staff gave us a extra oil burner. You can also get spray from behind the bar.

Food was perfect. Massage was peaceful. Staff were great. We did have problems with our tv and shower but the staff sorted it.

It's so peaceful and relaxing as there is nothing close by however there is a boat which takes you to the town. We hired bikes for the day and got the see the local area.

The hotel is prefect and is defiantly worth a visit

“Peaceful serenity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My boyfriend and I were fortunate enough to snap up a great deal to stay at the Paradise Koh Yao Boutique Hotel and Spa for 7 nights for a great price. We stayed at the resort in mid january 2012. We were greeted at the Phuket airport and quickly bundled in a taxi to take us to the pier for our speedboat transfer to the island. The speedboat took roughly 50 minutes but we thoroughly enjoyed it as it gave us a chance to take in the breathtaking scenery.

When we arrived at the resort we were greeted by another friendly staff member who handed us lemongrass-scented face towels to refresh and then guided us to the reception area. Walking through the resort we could tell that this trip was going to be the most relaxing stay in paradise we've had to date. No tuk tuks or large crowds that typically surround a Thai resort.

We stayed in a superior studio which was fitted out perfectly with all we could want. An indoor/outdoor shower, a kingsize bed with soft sheets and a sala for enjoying the sounds of the local tucans which inhabit the area. The beach was littered with sun lounges, as well as hammocks hanging from the palm trees so there was plenty of space to laze the day away in the sun. The infinity pool also offered another great option to cool off.

The food was magnificent. From the buffet breakfast every morning (where you get to have your eggs cooked anyway you like) to the themed buffet dinners which we thoroughly enjoyed - especially my boyfriend! The themed buffets included thai night, curry night, seafood night and japanese night. The food was lovely and definitely a highlight. We were treated to a flame dancer one night, and the beach bar also offered some entertainment as well as happy hour every night. Otherwise if you wish to spend the night in the resort offers DVD rental free of charge to watch in your rooms, which is a great option is the rain sets in. As a newcomer to the island we were invited to a cocktail party on the beach to mingle with other guests and received some yummy cocktails and canapes.

We both lead pretty busy lifestyles so decided to take it easy for most of our stay. We took the kayak out one day to explore the cliffs of the island, and also booked in for the elephant trek. At the end of this trek they take you to Ao Nang village, near Krabi. After an hour or so my boyfriend and I were over the crowds and ready to get back to the peaceful serenity that awaited us at Paradise.

We both had not one, but two massages during our stay. Total bliss. We had never felt so relaxed as we did here.

It was sad to say goodbye especially to all the lovely, friendly staff who made our stay just a little bit more special. We would highly recommend this resort to others. Thanks again :)
