We had booked one night at this hotel, through the Logis de France, as part of a touring holiday of France and Belgium.
Our welcome was distracted - a smiling man came out of a restaurant/breakfast room and handed us a key, telling us it was upstairs on the left. We asked about parking - "you're fine, where you are" he said - in the only disabled space right outside the front door ?- he hadn't even looked to see where we were. (We naturally moved it as soon as the bags were out of the boot!). Also, when asked about booking dinner he just vaguely said, come down about 7.30 to 8.00.
The room was adequate if a little scruffy in places - toilet door had exposed harboard; wallpaper under the window looked as if it had been damp. The room overlooked the car park and the River Mayenne.
The food at dinner was good but was spoiled by the surly waitress. We did notice that she was like this with everyone - she wasn't just picking on us, but it cast a pall over the meal. For example, the cheeseboard was banged down on the table and she just glared at us until we pointed out what we wanted.
Breakfast was totally inadequate for a Logis 3 Chimney hotel. The orange juice was a concentrate and there were no pastries, cold meats, cheeses or yoghurts. Again, service was graceless.
Our biggest problem was with the checkout. Our bill wasn't ready and we had to stand and wait whilst a receptionist (who had also been serving breakfast) hand wrote our bill, then checked and re-checked her calculations. As my husband handed over his credit card the hotel 'phone rang. The receptionist answered it and proceeded to book someone in to the restaurant for Sunday lunch. We were apparently, having entered the pin number, of no consequence. She tore off the receipt and handed back the credit card without a glance, let alone a "thank you". Wonderful after we had just paid her nearly €200! She never even acknowledged our leaving the hotel.
I have, exceptionally, lodged a complaint with the Logis de France regarding this.
Her rudeness was incredible and I would advise anyone to think twice before running this gauntlet of discourtesy at the Beau Rivage.
