I have been travelled to few hill stations, but this was a lot different experience than others. The place is beautiful but the reason u are visiting here is not the mountains and the cold but to stay inside either a casino, shopping mall or the theme park. So make sure u remind urself of that.
We took a taxi from Shangri-la hotel to the base of genting and paid 90MYR , at the base u take the 15 min cable car ride ( easiest and cheapest) to reach genting highland.
The cable car ride from the base to the resort is fun and has good views ( remember u can’t carry luggage in these rides, so either u take a taxi/bus or u deposit them at the counter at the base and they deliver it to your hotel at specific times ( charges 25 RM for 3 set of luggage’s)
All the hotels here are pretty much alike we stayed at Genting resort, which was an average 2 star or may be even 1 star hotel but with clean room and bathrooms. Considering the activities going on here I am sure the rooms are used only to get some sleep. So did not mind them much. The breakfast at the hotel was ordinary and we decided to skip it and have a brunch at many of the restaurants available with in the mall.
The check-in/check out process is easy but I totally believe during peak days at can easily take upto 2 hrs for them. As they have 3 people handling around 300 rooms.
Hotel is right across the theme park but we did not face any noise issue.
You will have to walk a fair distance to reach casinos and shopping mall so be prepared.
Lot of food options available right below the hotel so stuff ur room if u plan to have a little snack party at mid night
Room features – decent beds, small tv, and a working ceiling-fan(yes had to mention this as this is an uncommon things in hotels at Genting;-))
