We received a call from the owner of La Giara saying that she had accidentally over-booked, but had found us a place at nearby Tomasellis. Pina Tomaselli rescued her friend by meeting us at La Giara and showing us the way to her B&B. After a good night's sleep and a fabulous breakfast of freshly baked croissants, bread, boiled eggs, cheese, salami, 3 homemade jams, and juice, we realized that perhaps we had been lucky after all! The Tomasellis are a nice family -- their son is traveling the world working in various social service projects and carrying the message of the Intl Program on the Elimination of Child Labour and Amnesty Intl's fight to stop violence against women. The B&B is close to the base of Mt Etna and only a little over an hours drive to Taormina. The Tomasellis can arrange for 20% off vouchers for the Mt Etna funicula and tours. The only down side was some barking dogs in the neighborhood and a bit away from the best restaurants in town, but the owners gave us good advice about a place to eat.
