“Good Spanish base for Gibraltar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at the Asur Hotel Campo de Gibraltar at the end of January 2012 for 2 nights.
Excellent position for access to Gibraltar, nearest Spanish hotel to Gibraltar and a short five minute walk to the border (don’t forget your passport to enter)
Stayed on 6th floor in a standard room - excellent views of “The Rock “and marina.
Evening meal - Stayed in for a evening meal – cost 10 euros each for a three course meal (special offer) which was excellent value and tasty.
Breakfast – we had two breakfasts at the hotel as part of the package – a lot of the “hot” food was cold , the microwave next to the food bar is not an acceptable way to reheat food – it is not hard to keep the food hot . This aspect was the most disappointing part of the stay and should be looked at asap – it appears to be a reoccurring theme through the reviews. . The other comments about the watery orange juice and poor quality coffee are also valid
Room – well laid out and good condition, tubed television not flat screen, had to pay extra for use of room safe and it appears that the hot beverage tray was at an additional cost – didn’t use it . There is a fridge with a minibar list but the fridge was empty. Wireless internet access was by pre payment for an hour or for a 24 hours periods - no free areas within the hotel .
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Asur Hotel Campo de Gibraltar and would stay at the hotel again

Room Tip: high floor sea view

“An really useful hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I have stayed here twice recently.
This hotel is in a great position to serve Gibraltar and La Linea. There are almost no hotels around here accept for the AC which is fine but far from the frontier and far from the centre of La Linea so a much longer walk everywhere.
The hotel I huge giving an open , spacious feel. The rooms are big and well enough appointed , each woith a balcony and table and chairs and drying rack out side. We found the beds great and slept well. Reasonalbe black-out blinds.

We got a great rate so it was excellent value .I would say it was right for the area nad the place.
Rooms come with breakfast .
Now here is the snag. This hotel is run it seems by people with no experience at all in the hotel business. The breakfast juice is a powder mix which seperates while in the glass and tastes worse than Koolaid. I never saw anyone actually drink it. Combined with the foul taste of the water in La Linea it is a terrible beverage. The coffee is just as bad ...foul.. come on guys. have less food out of much better quality. A good cup of coffee and a good juice goes a long way.

It is also one of those hotels that over charges for everything that is not the room price. The in room tea bags are 2 euros each, the WIFI is costly, the phone is horrendous price even for local calls though they did give some of it back when I complained. All prices for everything are high.. It 3 streets walk to the town centre and I adore La LInea, to have freshly squeezed juice, wonderful coffee and fantastic food.
all this being said, I would stay at this hotel anytime though I have one concern. I was wiht my husband on the last 2 stays but as a woman alone I don't know how comfortable I would feel as it is so so big and so empty. It might spook me a bit.

Thye staff, which were few, were really good and very helpful. I thinl the fact that the place works so well is down to them .
I hpe the owners read this and fix the coffee and the juice and the website. It is really a great and very conveniet place to stay with lots of space and comfort if the website lets you book.
Now..there is a constant problem with this hotels website. It says that the hotel is closed or full when it is open and empty so do ring as the website is insane. I had this happen several time and they doidn't know about it until I reported it to them.

There is a restaurant which does a 10 euro complete menu at night. The food is OK and if you have to stay in for some reason it is really fine ...adequate with uninspired but decent food for the price.

Room Tip: YOu get some sea view with all rooms but great views of the rock if you want them.

“Flatters to deceive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

This hotel is well positioned for Gibraltar, it is clean and modern but completely soulless.
The hotel has four stars but a clean spacious bedroom and nice bathroom does not make up for a hard uncomfortable bed, and an overpriced and uninspiring beverage tray.
Breakfast also flatters to deceive, overcooked plastic eggs, dried out pancakes which stuck to the tray, watery "orange" juice and machine made coffee.
We considered dining in that evening but the restaurant looked totally stark and unwelcoming.

“Beautiful Views of Gibraltar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We very much enjoyed our stay at the ASUR. The junior suite was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The views from the balcony were spectacular. We especially liked the location to the Gibraltar boarder. It was easy walking distance. The surrounding area of La Linea can be a bit depressing as can the outside of the Asur when first it's seen. This is a reflection of the past when obviously it was a working town entwined with Gibraltar ( which can also be a bit dreary in areas) But the interior is lovely (but I did feel there was just something missing. Can't just put my finger on what that is. Maybe just a lack of character) it's modern and spacious.

For access to Gibraltar at half the cost of Gibraltar hotels, this hotel is a must.

Room Tip: Definitely visit Gibraltar. Remember your passport though.

“January Overnight”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This hotel is described as 4 star however, apart from the room size and cleanliness I would have thought it more a 3 star. The staff were reasonably friendly. The rooms as I have said are of a good size and they were clean. The bathrooms also were of a good standard.
However the breakfast whilst although there was plenty of choice it could not be described as better than average. If you enjoy a basic buffet breakfast with a few cold fried eggs, some fatty bacon and lumpy cold scrambled eggs then you will be okay. The orange juice as described elsewhere on here was little more than slightly orange flavoured water.
The hotel is handily placed for Gibraltar being one of the closest to the Rock. There is garage parking for hotel guests, I think 6 euros a day but there is also on street parking payment for which is not required between 8.0pm and 9.0am
Beds are very firm and no choice of pillows.

Room Tip: Most suites have balconies overlooking the Rock.
