We stayed at the resort from Feb 3 - 10, 2012. We went with a group of 35 for a friend's wedding. The hotel is a short 20 minute drive from the airport.
ROOM: Our room was ready upon arrival we stayed in a king, ocean view room. The room was very clean. It was spacious with a lot of closet and dresser space. The bathroom had a large soaker tub and a stand up shower. The vanity has double sinks. The lighting in the bathroom is not the best it was hard to see when applying make-up. The king size bed was very comfortable. We didn't watch a lot of TV but they had most american stations and some canadian ones. My favourite part of our room was our balcony with the ocean view it was definitely worth the upgrade we spent a lot of time relaxing on the balcony it was very nice. The room was cleaned everyday and there is also a turn down service each evening which was nice.
FOOD/RESTAURANTS: We ate at the following a la cartes: Aunt Ruby's (Steakhouse), Cajun, Mexican, Mediterranean. We also ate at the buffet. We were not able to get into the Japanese restaurant we were put on a wait list. We did not go to the gourmet as the menu did not appeal to us. The food was ok at all of the above mentioned restaurants. My husband and I actually preferred the room service the chicken nuggets are awesome and the club house was delicious. All of the food was well prepared and none of us got sick from the food.
POOL/Beach: The infinity pool is beautiful! The water is very refreshing and cool. The bar staff in the pool are the best. By the third day the bartender knew our drinks and would say "the usual"? Favourite drinks: Miami Vice, Rum Talk, Dirty Banana, Rum Special, and Red Stripe Light. We had no issue get lounge chairs by the pool or at the beach. The beach is nice they have a lot of tiki huts for shade, no issues for getting a good spot. Servers also went to the beach to take drink orders.
SPA: We went for a couples massage the price was a bit expensive $110 for a 50 min swedish. They have a wet area in the spa which is open to all guests and is complimentary it was very relaxing: sauna, steam room, two roman baths, jacuzzi, bubble bath, and a cool bath not overly advertised not many people in this area which was great.
ENTERTAINMENT: Crazy Kenny, Kiki, Xena, VIP, OMG, Happy Feet made our stay very pleasurable. These people work hard and make everyone have a great time. The shows were a good laugh and the activities by the pool were a lot of fun. I believe the entertainment staff deserve more recognition as they were a highlight of our trip.
EXCURSIONS: Our group didn't really part take in a lot of excursions my husband and I did Dunn River Falls and 9 Miles (Bob Marley's Home Town) we did both on the same day as a package deal... it was meh. We enjoyed the falls and we brought water shoes with us, the staff at the falls were very pushy for tips and selling of merchandise. The meal included was very basic a drink, some chicken, and sweet bread. Our tour guide was not very informative and fell asleep for a part of the bus ride. The ride to get to 9 mile was on rural winding roads not good for a person who may get motion sick. Most of the tour was spent in the bus driving about 4 hours in total. We did the para-sailing offered on the beach it was a lot of fun and the price was comparable to what you would pay in North America.
Overall I would recommend Iberostar Rose Hall Suites it is a small, clean resort with very friendly and accommodating staff. We've been to Cuba and DR the people in Jamaica are lovely and very friendly it also helps that it is an english speaking country. Downside this trip was one of our most expensive trips due to the fact Jamaica is more expensive then other countries we've been to I do not think we would return to Jamaica as we could get the same type of vacation for a lot cheaper elsewhere.
Room Tip: I would definitely recommend an oceanfront room the balcony is large and with extra privacy.
