We stayed two nights at the Parador de Bielsa and enjoyed the quiet mountain surroundings. There is great hiking right from the parador. The rooms are clean and spacious and keep in line with the decor of a mountain lodge. If you are expecting an urban and cosmopolitain room you may be disappointed, but that type of room would seem out of place in such an environment. The staff was friendly, patient and relaxed, the food was hearty. A great place to stay to enjoy the Pyrenees.

Check-in was swift and the lady at the check-in desk was friendly and fortunately spoke English. We got two free drinks coupon upon check in and we immediately used them at the bar. The room seems dated and needs a massive revamp. It kind of had a rustic feel to it. The room was also very small and the bed was probably constructed in the 1980s. Being a hybernat-er however, no problems sleeping that night.

The best thing about the hotel however was the view from its terrace. Just look at the pictures and you will understand why.

This Parador is at the end of a beautiful valley in the Spanish Pyrenees. We visited in early spring when there was still snow on the mountains but the valley was snow-free. The hotel itself is built in a hunting lodge style and most rooms have views of the mountains. The welcome was less than enthusiastic and the staff in general seemed too laid back to bother with us. The hotel is not very well signposted from Bielsa. At the time of our visit the tunnel from Bielsa north into France was closed but there was only a small notice in Spanish pinned to an information board to tell us so. The hotel staff could have been more helpful on that point. Dinner interesting and lots of regional options. Breakfast enormous/

We were worried about some of the reviews hinting that this Parador might have gone a bit to seed. Our bedroom had a refurbished bathroom and flat screen TV and was very comfortable. The hotel has an unbeatable location - especially if you are find of trekkiing in the mountains. You can walk straight up to the Lanos de Lalarri from the hotel - a spectacular hanging valley. Service was sometimes a little cool and the food was typical mountain grub - rather heavy sometimes. But overall a great stay
