This story goes back a few years to the Summer of 2006, my mother and I were visiting family and friends in Nainital. This was a special time as I live overseas, far from everyone and seldom get to spend quality time with my family. That summer we heard of this magnificent property in Nainital and were curious to see it. I distinctly remember driving up the driveway to this quaint property and being greeted by the hostess and her daughter. After a personal tour of the the property we were invited to join the host family for some tea in this beautiful living room. Since returning to Chicago, I have always wanted to revisit that property with my family. Our visit was brief though some day I hope to return for a longer stay. Needless to say I was very impressed not only with the property but with the gracious hospitality of the host family.

Forget staying in big, international hotels, places like Abbotsford are the way to go!! You are not treated like another anonymous face but welcomed like a special friend. Even before you go, the hotel is in touch to find out if you have any special needs or preferences for example, meal preferences. They can also help with excursions and day trips in the area. Although we found that once we got there we didn't really want to go very far. A visit to the boat club for a beer, a round of gold on a picturesque golf course, but that was about it for us! We spent most of our time in the well-kept gardens reading, and relaxing. In the evenings we sat around the bonfire which was wonderful. The service was superb, nothing was every too much trouble. Abbotsford is a beautiful property, well maintained, with high standards of cleanliness. If you want to get away from it all, and yet want a home away from home, this is the place to go! A real treat, we're already planning our next trip!

If one is looking for a home in the hills, Abbotsford is the place. Rich in history, warm classic wood interiors, lovingly done up rooms, and a kitchen / staff that takes care of you like they have known you for years (special thanks to Krishan Ji)! My husband and I spent a memorable, cozy few days here in January. Sitting by the live fireplace, sipping coffee, and enjoying locally made sweets, just the recipe for a relaxed few days away from everything. And whoever thinks its too cold to be in Nainital in winter needs to visit for sure! Well it is cold but oh so special in winters when the morning sun feels so much more warmer as one sits in the garden overlooking mountains, and the evening brings an inviting chill, making the freshly prepared dinner by candle light so apetizing! Looking forward to being back there soon!

I remember having the instant feeling of a lovely warmth and calmness when I first entered the marvelous wooden corridor of ABBOTSFORD full of gorgeous pictures and artifacts of leading to the beautiful wooden dining room….which was shimmering with the crisp winter sun. And it was when I saw my room, which I may add was the “PINK ROOM” I knew …I was in love. A lot of the structure is still intact and maintained beautiful as it was originally made giving it a very regal feel to the whole place. The atmosphere is so serene and pure…..with its old world charm to it that it just mesmerizes you and completely grows upon you. The stunning view of the “china peak” giving you company with your cup of morning and evening tea sitting in the lush garden with the music of the birds just for you is truly wonderful. The place is full of great energy and emotion….one can be alone there to write a book, script or just to rediscover oneself again or to spend time with our loved ones, It caters to all moods and needs. Its truly a place worth the time, effort and money in today’s hectic life to indulge in …..and something one needs to experience for themselves to really know what this place is all about.
There are truly very few places in India which is so close to nature, with a rich history and heritage…..that makes you wanting to visit the state/area just so one can stay in the property again and again.’
