“Just Exhilarating !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

This was a last minute planned trip and am so glad we did it and stayed at Abbotsford. Everything about the place is magical. The grandeur of the house makes you feel colonial. The view will not only take your breath away but fill you with life esp if you're having lunch or breakfast outside at the cafe chica which can be arranged. The Staff always vibrant and happy to help. The food was absolutely lovely. We were absolutely thrilled to be staying here, making our trip to Nainital super.

“Magic Kumaon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2011

We had a marvellous time at Abbotsford. It's a big historic house set above most of the houses in the town and therefore very peaceful. Above it towers China Peak - the view of the himalayas from here is panoramic and you can actually see China! The rooms were spacious and comfortable, beautifully decorated, the food was delicious - and perfectly catered to our desires. We loved sailing on the Lake, picnicing in the stunning Kumoan hills feeling like we were the only people in the world, walking and riding. The staff were thoughtful and attentive at all times, but never intrusive. We felt relaxed and recharged after our few days and look forward to returning soon! It's hard to imagine a nicer place to stay in Nainital - a home away from home - and there's something so magical about those Kumaon Hills... "Many many fairies live there" says our daughter.

“Conde Nast Traveller - India in luxury supplement for ITB - 2009”

As Editor of the Conde Nast Traveller (UK) supplement on India in 2009 I travelled extensively, often with my energetic young children. Abbotsford was with out a doubt one of my favourite places to stay. Travelling with my two children, two of their friends and their lone mother we were thrilled to feel relaxed and at home in this stunning but comfortable family home. Endless trips to meadows with snow peaked views, boating on the lake, delicious dinners both in and out - we were spoilt for choice. We all slept so well in stately rooms with massive beds with thick duvets. The staff were brilliant. and their children quickly made firm friends with our crew to form a cricket team - the pitch itself is part of the Abotsford garden as we settled into tea and cakes and a view to die for. Perfect for families, bird watchers and those who want to experience the real India. One problem - the charming Prasada's won't part with their home cooked recipies - a secret for generations, a trip back is the only way we can experience the best lamb we've ever tasted.

“Unforgettable..that's what you are!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

If you love the hills like me...and even if you don't, you will... by the time you finish your stay in Abbotsford in Nainital. This 130 year English manor house is located ideally away from the center of town yet its only a short drive away incase you need to get to the market or the mall with its shops and eating places. However once you have checked in to the comforts of this charming hotel you will not want to leave the peace and quiet of its lovely gardens with a view of the kumaon hills or its well stocked library where you can spend many an hour with endless cups of coffee. The abbotsford staff runs the place like a home with wholesome delicious meals that you get to choose every morning. While you can go for a trek in the hills with a picnic hamper during the day....in the evening you can enjoy a roaring bonfire over a glass of wine and music. Abbotsford is a home away from home and i am definitely heading back to it very soon.
