Nainital is a city of lakes and a major tourist attraction, we decided to visit nainital in the month of August which was not the peak season. So, we had not booked a hotel and decided to hunt for it ourselves once we reached their.We asked our cab driver to leave us near the lake, so that we could look for hotels near the lake. Some of the hotels looked really old while some looked really expensive, we visited some hotels and saw the rooms but were not really happy, then right in front of the lake, their was this Hotel Alka, painted White from outside, looked really nice. We decided to have a look at the rooms, which were cozy and nice and had a great view of the lake. As it was off season we got a really good deal for the room which was our abode for the next four days. The hotel staff was sophesticated and polite and the service for good. You could spend the whole day at the window of the room and see the lovely view of the lake or spend time on the terrace and have snacks and tea. It was like paradise on earth. The hotel staff recommended us to take the sightseeing trip around the city, which we readily agreed, they arranged a cab to pick us up the next day and gave us a guide from the hotel itself. The hotel is build over a hill and thus has a very nice view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.It is right on the mall road so you do not have to travel to get to the mall road or even the lake, it is just a nice walk. We had a lovely time in Nainital and a pleasant stay at the hotel.

Alka hotel is probably one of the best hotels in nainital. Located just near the lakeside, Alka combines tradition with modernity. The food is simply superb and so is the service. The price is also not over the top, must try for all the adventurers

It was wonderful to stay in Hotel Alka with my family in the last week of June this year for 3 days. The hotel has great location, offers very nice view of Naini Lake and overall good services, though the rates were on higher side.

I agree with earlier comments about unfriendly, uncooperative staff apart from doorman who always met us with a smile!
The bathroom was dirty, the bedroom was was comfortable but dark and I got bitten to death overnight - not sure whether it was bedbugs or mosi's but I would not stay there again.
