its the most beautiful hotel on the mall road and has great view of lake n all but what i disliked most was a old aged manager on reception being very rude n uncooperative and treating me like i was an average guest and also room service was very very poor

It was a fantastic stay at Hotel Alka for two reason.
1. Its ideal location showcasing the great Nainital lake
2. Its superb service and a nice interior.

Hotel Alka is located right on the Mall road between Mallital and Tallital - a little closer to Tallital. There is a boat stand just accross the Mall road. The view of the lake is fantastic from the hotel balconies. The room and bathroom were clean. The food in the restaurant and room service were fine. The hotel also has a snack bar in the basement - accessible from the road. Only negative that I think of is that rooms was small and cramped.

I stayed in Hotel Alka, Nainital on 18 Apr 09, hoping to stay two nights before check in. My program spoils when I met with some 50+ manager on reception. His surname includes "wani" (like lalwani, I do not remember, I'd rather say I do not want to remember). This stone faced Mumbai guy does not know how to welcome guests or may be he gets bore of his job and just doing formality. I changed my mind on reception desk not to stay in this hotel next night so next morning I switched to other hotel. Just like to convey message to owner/management that this guys rough attitude is damaging your hotels prestige.
Furthermore, rooms were not clean and staff was bad. Room service was also very bad. Order of one cup of coffee took 30 mins only after reminding them.
