“A great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

We booked a room only as a base to see the sights of the island and we were pleasantly surprised. Although situated up a winding hill over the main road it was actually only 10 mins walk to the lovely centre of Gouvia Our studio was basic but very spacious and clean and had a fully functional kitchen that did the job.
The pool area was beautiful and relaxing and sunbeds were randomly placed on the grass area which gave peace and privacy. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and were all very "smiley".
We hired bikes from Alex on the main street at just 15 euros for the day and managed to see a fair chunk of this beautiful island. We also went on Captain Spyros boat trip which included bbq on the beach and swimming in caves. As much food and wine as you can manage for 23 euros for a full day, Gouvia has some lovely restaurants with plenty of choice. It is great to see the Greeks keeping their culture and not succumming to the "english food here" synndrome. would definatly recommend St Nicholas if you are looking for basic, clean, affordable and peaceful.

“A peaceful and relaxing holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

We have just returned from a very relaxing holiday at the St Nicholas hotel in Gouvia. We stayed in room number 413 which was set in the garden block overlooking the swimming pool area.A good sized room with small kitchenette facilities . Probably not a full 4stars but definitely a good 3. The bathroom had an overbath shower and was in need of a little updating but quite clean and adequate. The swimming pool area is set in pretty gardens with plenty of sunbeds but not enough umberellas , although the numerous olive trees provide some extra shady places to locate your lounger. No early rush to bag a sunbed which was great ! A poolside bar and restaurant serves snacks and main meals troughout the day and was a good place to sit for a nightcap. Perhaps the main drawback of the hotel is its location . A downhill walk into Gouvia "village" itself is manageable and takes about 10 minutes but the uphill return hike makes it very difficult for those with mobility issues or young families pushing buggies. Gouvia itself has a small slice of shingle beach ,a marina area and a good number of restaurants to choose from .Our favourite place to eat was Leon - good variety of traditional dishes and pasta , pizza and grills .
Breakfast at St Nicholas was an informal buffet with a small selection of meat , cheese , a couple of cereals , yoghurt ,honey and fruit.Hard boiled eggs were also available . As the hotel is not visited by many English tourists the breakfast choice did look a little meagre but we filled up on toast and fresh coffee most mornings and this did not mar our stay- just dont expect bacon , sausages ,fried eggs etc.
All in all a great place for a totally laid back holiday in the sun . The family who own and run the hotel were pleasant and helpful at all times and made us feel very welcome.A little hidden gem suited to older couples or those who are looking for peace and quiet .

“Would not stay there again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

the hotel in general is not bad, it is a nice resort, the size of the rooms are good, the problem we had was the terrible smell in the bedroom that made us sick the whole time (we bought an aromatic spray but still the smell was so strong) and the lack of cleaning in the bathroom (there were 2 dead mosquitoes on the bathroom tiles from the day 1 until we left, although we pointed them out to the cleaner). Also, the breakfast was very average towards poor for a hotel. . .

Even though a very long time have passed since your stay we still would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review about our hotel.

And we are indeed deeply sorry to read that your stay with us was not a pleasant one. Unfortunately we did not have the ability to respond to your comments earlier and kindly ask you in which room you have stayed since no matter how strange this may sound we did not manage to recall such a complaint addressed to us (which is not difficult since our hotel is a small family run business) and it is the first time in the years of our operations that we read/receive a complaint about a bad smell.

As per your comment about our breakfast we could understand greater expectations if we would be marketing our hotel as offering something other than what we do offer which is just Continental Breakfast.

Once again we thank you and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Saint Nicholas in the future.

“Wonderfull Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2009

Having visited Corfu for the Greek Easter I stayed wih friends at the Saint Nicholas Hotel.
The room was extra spacious with kitchenette facilities and great views over Gouvia Bay and and the hotel's gardens and pools.
Just a few min walking distance from the center of the village of Gouvia and only a 10min drive to the city center.
Peacefull location ideal for relaxing and just be close to everything.
