All phone lines had been down that morning in Sete so we arrived without a reservation looking like a couple of scruffs as we'd just completed a six day bike trip from Toulouse down the Canal du Midi. Fortunately they had a room and seemed totally unfazed by the state of us! The room was very comfortable with good beds and a large bathroom with a whirlpool bath. Our filthy bikes were parked inside the foyer beside the main door for the duration of our three day stay. Our bedroom was on the west facing side and I thought it might be noisy....it wasn't, but we had to make sure that the chambermaid shut all the windows and shutters as it heated up when the sun was on it in the afternoon and it took the AC a while to catch up. Only gripe was breakfast. At 10 euros per head it seemed a little dear compared with Paradors in Spain. I.e. Bottled orange juice and poorly prepared fruit salad (i.e.pips) but eventually managed to get a teapot to make a decent cup of tea. The staff we met were lovely, especially the lady at reception. Very good position on the canal, Sete is a lovely little town Didn't try the restaurant but ate out in the town. Would go back again but investigate getting a better room rate with a bit of forward planning which was not possible this time.
