We are a family of 4 (2 children aged 2 and 5) and went all inclusive for 10 days in Sept 2011. We booked the hotel, flights and transfer separately (saving a fair bit of money) and found the journey so easy to make from home to the hotel, about 4 hrs door to door
We had booked a 2 bed apt and got upgraded to one of the bungalows in the gardens which was perfect as it had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a terrace where we could sit and have a drink whilst the kids slept. The rooms are starting to show their age but all the basics are there.
The food was excellent, always fresh with a good variety, my only complaint is that ice cream is not available throughout the day which was a shame for the kids. You are limited to one restaurant and one bar which i could imagine could get very busy at peak holiday season.
The entertainment team were great and there was opportunities to get involved with activities if you wanted to, but equally they left you alone if that's not your idea of a holiday. The evening entertainment was very hit and miss and the stage was directly next to the pool which caused some concern with younger children but none of this stopped us enjoying the evenings and indeed the overall holiday.
What sticks out most about this holiday was the overall atmosphere of the place. There was a great mix of families, couples, older people, younger people.
A great facility is the courtesy bus that runs you into Punta Prima as this gave you the option of a day on the beach or a meal out without the stress of how getting there and back (and the hotel will also provide you with a picnic if ordered the day before)
Punta Prima and the surronding area is a very laid back , with just enough for the 10 days we were there.
If your looking for a hotel with 6 bars, 3 restaurants (all with different cuisines), sports bars and nightclubs close to hand then this is not the place for you. However if you want somewhere that still seems able to retain some authenticity of a spanish holiday with the added bonus of all inclusive facilities at reasonable prices then the Sur Menorca ticks the boxes and we wouldn't think twice about returning in the future.
