We had a last minute bargain so we weren't expecting anything too luxurious; however, we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is divided into separate blocks - we stayed in 'La Gomera' which gave us a lovely sea view, huge balcony and family sized apartment. We stayed on a half board basis, but it was very useful to have a kitchen area as well. The hotel is very clean and the maid service efficient and unobtrusive. The staff were friendly as well - they would always smile and say hello. The food was better than I expected for the price we paid - plenty of fresh fruit and wholemeal bread was a definite bonus. It was a bit samey, and yes, sometimes the foot could be hotter, but again we couldn't complain for the money we spent.
The island itself is beautiful - if you want nightlife and loads of entertainment, go somewhere else, but if you like walking, nature, fantastic scenery and a well earned rest we would recommend it. We don't drive, so found the bus service very useful and comfortable. We also took an excursion to the highest peak on the island, which later took us through beautiful scenery down to farmers market - good value considering how much was covered.
The weather wasn't fantastic - it rained every day, but the rain came in gentle showers that didn't last that long and it was always warm. (We could have had a lot worse considering it was January).
We particularly loved walking through the rain forest in the north east - when we emerged at the top there was a brilliant view down to the sea, with rainbows!
Another highlight was the fantastic restaurant in Los Llanos - 'Brasero mar y tierra', great food and some of the best service we've ever had. Good for just a drink, too - they bring you free food anyway!
Thre was only one day sunny enough for the beach, so we took advantage and virtually had the black sand beach at Los Cancajos to ourselves. We would recommend this if you want to get away from it all - of course I imagine the summer months are much busier.....
