“A nice green Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We Stayed at the Taburiente playa at the end of January early February 2012,the hotel is set in a pleasant position close to the sea front, it is mainly used by German travellers and the more mature customers. The hotel is reached within minutes of the airport, some local noise can be heard, but only a few flights go out each day, the hotel shows signs of needing some updating, however it is kept very clean at all times the food is plentiful and offers a wide range for most tastes. The hotel seems happy to provide service to diet restricted customers. The hotel entertainment is low key mostly a guitar man providing nightly shows the drinks in the bar are similar to prices back home with a good range of cocktails. We went on 2 trips the north and south both full days, we can say they were both very good not to be missed in our view, the island has beautiful scenery, Thomsons guide on both days was very informative.
The down side to our stay was the weather we had mostly cloudy days all week long with only a little sunshine, it would appear the western, southern end seems to fare better in the sunshine stakes so selection of which part of the island is important.
We had a problem with the small fridge in our room it smelled fishy and was not working at all, we reported this to the hotel including the maid on 5 separate times they might have cleaned it but never repaired or replaced it, as the Rep was only in the hotel two days a week we decided to give up on it, as it turned out with the weather we did not need it that badly although it would have be nice to cool some drinks, room 205 if Thomsons or the hotel are interested. The hotel reception staff have limited English language skills and we have little or no Spanish ourselves to enable us good communication however I did photograph the fridge it and showed the image and explained best I could however with no joy.
We choose to use Thomsons taxi transfers option which worked fine on arrival however on departure the taxi failed to turn up, we are currently awaiting Thomson investigation. We ended up paying for another taxi ourselves this resulted in us to be late and we ended up with only 30 minutes before being called for the aircraft. Our advice would be to not select any transfer option if staying at the Taburiente playa but simply pick up your own taxi at the airport and on departure day its a lot cheaper and you will remain in control.
Overall despite the weather it was a good holiday and we would return to island, its a pretty island and great for walkers, mountain biking and exploring on foot or by car or coach.

“Not that enjoyable”

We stayed at this hotel for seven nghts last week and were, after not using hotels for a number of years, suprised at its four star rating. We had requested a top floor room if possible but at check in the staff where not aware of this and also not interested. We were just told " the hotel is full you have a second floor room". On arrival in the room, carrying our own suitcases, we found the fittings very dated and dark brown giving the room a very gloomy look. The floor had several loose tiles which must have annoyed the people in the room below when we moved around. The bathroom did not have any extraction system despite having no window and the bath was stained with taps and shower fittings looking almost corroded. We did think that the beds were very comfortable however and slept well each night. To the dining room the first evening we were greeted and shown to a table but then just left to find our own way around the four widely separated food collection stations where the food was displayed on trays open to the air so rapidly cooling. there was one area where food was being cooked on a hotplate so you could have a freshly cooked piece of meat, or omlette at breakfast, but by the time you had walked around the other stations for the rest of your meal it was cold anyway. The bar also is very dated and the seating old and not comfortable but worse, the carpet so badly worn with some parts almost a trip hazard. As not many people used the bar, the lack of staff did not matter too much. Perhaps the same singer with the same songs each night had something to do with this. The same bar man was on duty every night. On a brighter note the grounds and pool areas were well kept with one pool heated. We think that the thomson service was basic with the welcome meeting not until the next evening and nobody at the hotel to greet us and liase with the staff. There was also a lack of English language information on where to go and what to see.

“In need of some attention”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My wife and I enjoyed a pleasant 5-night stay here in January.
Everything was satisfactory and we had no cause for complaint. However, there were aspects which could be improved on - for example the quality of the fruit juices dispensed from machines (although these could easily be by-passed in favour of the good range of freshly- made smoothies).
However, it was noticeable that the hotel was looking a little tired. Some carpets were quite badly worn and/or stained - though not dangerous; and the wallpaper (at least in our bedroom wing) was cerainly in need of replacement.
The staff were fine, although occasionally harassed in the dining- room which struggled to cope with 100% room occupancy.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We have just returned from a week at the H10 Tabruiente Player hotel on La Palma (Canaries), traveling with Thomson. This was a return visit having stayed here in January 2008 (see my 2008 report) at which time the hotel quality was excellent. What a difference four years can make, everything about this holiday was a disappointment, the hotel bedrooms are tired, a large crack in our bathroom basin, was reported and ignored, in my opinion it was a health hazard, the bedroom furniture was old and showing its age, 50% of the available dressing table space was occupied with a large old fashioned CRT TV, although the only english channel was BBC World News, please install a wall mounted flat screen! Only one electrical socket worked in the room meaning you had to chose between TV or something else. During our week the weather was inclement, quite cold in fact and although Thomson brochure states air conditioning and heating was in the rooms the heating did not work, further complaints lead to us being given a fan heater, which meant it occupied the ONE working power socket all the time. One plus point was the room were kept clean by the staff.
The public areas continued the worn and tired appearance, carpeted areas were badly marked and in places threadbare. The restaurant was badly understaffed, our first two days the hotel was packed and the restaurant could not handle the number of people, tables were not cleared in fact for two days we had to clear our own plates away, the staff were excellent there just was not enough of them. Buffet food was at best luke warm, they even have a microwave for you to heat it up! The hot food counters which have water baths under them to keep the food warm were void of any water, so food cooled of rapidly, the ‘live’ cooked food was OK, but not very varied. Breakfast was OK, but AVOID the fruit juices, they are from a machine and at best slightly flavoured water, also the hot drinks coffee etc. are all from a self service machine, not good. There is no fresh milk in the hotel, so if you like cereals, then expect UHT milk.
Entertainment, in 2008 each night we had live acts on the main stage, it was excellent, in 2012 you get a man with a guitar for 5 nights, a dramatic change.
Thomson service was minimal, the welcome meeting was not held until 26 hours after our arrival, then the representative came to the hotel ONCE more in the week, he was not available on our departure you were left to your own thing, which did lead to confusion for some people.
Is this a four star hotel? Definitely not.

“Great place to chill out.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We decided on a weeks cheapy-chill-out holiday on the 6th Jan 2012. With only a 5 min. transfer from the airport we arrived at what from the outside is a very ordinary hotel. But once inside, the reception was clean and well staffed with smiling people!! The general feel of the hotel is so so relaxing we had probably the quickest check-in ever and found the room in no time. This was clean, smelling fresh, bright and airy. lovely view over the pools and the sea beyond.
Exploring the hotel more I was impressed by the interior and found the walk down to the dining room and bar was stunning (maybe im just a fan of 70's architecture)
The dining room was clean well laid out with helpful staff, an excellent selection of hot and cold food laid out in a buffet self service style. Being half board we found the drinks reasonably priced (for a hotel) with a good selection of wines. Breakfast was excellent with a great selection.
Outside the pool areas continued the theme of cleanliness and is well maintained with the lifeguard ever present even though only the brave ventured into the pools. Snacks, drinks etc at the pool bar were good value and tasty.
Overall for what we paid we couldnt have got better value or better weather, great food lovely setting and a very very relaxing hotel loved it.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are best, lovely view and sun all day.
