It was a special stay for me and my wife, a very memorable one indeed. We had chosen this hotel from Tripadvisor and it lived up to all that was said of the place. We had booked a room for two nights but ended up staying for three since we turned up at Gangtok by a day early.
The owner of the place Mr.Dorji had confirmed our booking and also advised us on the Nathula trip before our arrival. Both the owner and his wife were extremely courteous and made us feel like home all throughout our stay. In fact we were welcomed into their living room to have food and we had long discussions over hot cups of tea.
Location – it is about 2kms from MG Marg. That said it is very easy to get a taxi in Gangtok and the main road which is also the NH31 highway connecting Sikkim runs past it. You can just hail a cab and travel on per seat basis to places like MG Marg for around Rs.15 per seat. The return was the same by asking them for a drop to SBI Tadong. Hence it is well situated and easily accessible to all major areas of Gangtok.
Rooms – We had booked a standard room at first but later upgraded to a bigger room costing a little more since the standard room was very small. The bigger room was very comfortable with distinct area for sitting and bed. The toilets were spic and span with round the clock hot water courtesy the geyser. The room was cleaned up one in a while and we did not have any issues what so ever.
Service – This must be the highlight of the stay. The hosts made us very comfortable and served us food and snacks whenever we asked for. They also provided pocket guides and booked our sightseeing and Nathula pass trips and make enquiry calls when we were out about our progress and if everything was going as planned. Now that what we call taking care!
Food – The food was cooked by the landlady herself and it was really tasty. Being of Tibetian origin, you would get pretty much all kinds of Non Vegetarian spread, but since we were Veggies, she smilingly served us delicious momos, soups, rotis, curries and tea whenever we pit stopped at their kitchen. We also exchanged notes and recipes and chatted away on lots of topics. Also do ask for the local specialty drink which tastes similar to sake and it will be arranged for you.
All and all it is truly worth its every review of excellence, very homely, quite economical, clean, well located, run by a couple who truly walk the talk in terms of hospitality and take that extra effort to make you feel home!
