“Very Nice boutique Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed her In Nov 2011. This is a very nice boutique hotel in a great location close to the waterfront, great for an evening stroll. Nice friendly staff and service was just excellent.

This is a restored 18th century place. Our large room had been converted with a bathroom booth installed in the corner complete with sink, shower and toilet. All very modern and a little different. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant. Would stay here again.

“French colonial experience in modern India”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

The place was originally the residence of French Mayor in India, Le Dupleix. The place has been restored and now runs as the hotel. That you have entered a French villa is evident with the first strep; the large wooden gate open into a courtyard which has an old Mango tree to welcome. Right next to this is the reception which I missed as it is placed in the side and does not look much like a reception. The running waterfall under the stairs opening into the courtyard adds to the ambience with the evening lights on.

The rooms are well done in terms of the furnishings and furniture; bathrooms are nice and large with modern amenities. The best thing about the place is its size with only 14 rooms, it can never be too crowded and offers a great place to unwind oneself. While there are multiple options of room, one would do well to book deluxe rooms or better. Some of the rooms in base category have a duplex kind of set-up but it is actually pain with the steps to walk to the bed and space is constraints. The deluxe rooms are nice, large and well spaced.

The food is very good and is indeed real value for money.

The hotel though not right on the beach side, is just a few minutes walk. The evening walk on the beach was very nice.

The staff is eager to help and do a great job. The staff is sincere in their efforts.

Overall, this is a place one should choose if one wants to unwind in grandeur.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher floors are nice and cozy and add a bit of romance to the ambience; avoid the...

“nice but not overwhelming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Selected this hotel over their more plush looking sister hotel "The Promenade" because it promised a heritage experience. The building is quite quaint beautifully whitewashed and generous use of Burma Teak, giving it a very nice colonial touch.

We chose the Penthouse room on the top floor which was brilliantly appointed with a lot of wood work and a beautiful bath as well. Checked the other rooms, while some of them very nice a few rooms especially on lower floors seemed to have privacy issues.

The location is excellent with it being in walking distance of the walkway along the sea and also close to many of the more popular restaurants and hangouts.

The open air sitting area under the Mango tree was refreshing and a great place for breakfast. Food was just above average. the bar also had a nice ambiance but wasn't busy when we went. The service was a bit inconsistent i feel and a little impersonal which is a let down according to me especially in a heritage property.

for me it was a place where you couldnt really complain much about anything but also would'nt make you go WOW! the penthouse room though was definitely reccomendable

Room Tip: Spend a little bit more and upgrade to the Penthouse Room on top floor

“Could have been better...”

We stayed in Le Dupleix in Oct 2011 for a couple of nights.

We were given a room was nice & cozy but opened up straight in the restaurant area. I thought it was a big let down given that although we had taken the most economical room in the hotel but still it was more expensive than other places we had checked out in Pondy.

Location is good as this is in white down close to the market and most of the restaurants. Food in the hotel restaurant was just about average and not many options for vegetarians.

Just about an average experience

“Pondicherry jem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

The room at the top, probably converted terrace, was encased in glass, with ceiling to floor blue silk drapes, and teak ceilings. Beautiful and very romantic. Beautiful waterfall under the stairs. The food was fine, and the service excellent but for sometimes getting the feeling that something gets lost in translation. They do bend backward to make you happy. Don't bother going to their sister hotel for breakfast as recommended by some guides, the one we had at the Dupleix was better. It is owned by the same charming man.

Room Tip: Go the top, you will be above the street but lost in the trees.
