Just back from a two week break as this apart-hotel and I think everyone else who have written a review have made fair points.
The resort of Sa Caleta is so small that it doesn't even merit its own resort map. If a get-away from it all, not move from the hotel complex type of holiday is what you are seeking, then this will suit you. There is very little to speak of in Sa Caleta, though the beach, which is just down a few steps from the hotel is nice and the sea is very safe for small Children as its quite shallow for some distance.
If you are looking for anything more than the above, then this is not the place for you. I would suggest Cala Blanca or Calen Bosh
Check in is done at the Hotel Blanc Palace, in a "look at what you could have won" kind of way. After seeing that, its somewhat of a disapointment to be shown where you a really staying!
As an All Inclusive customer, we could take all of ours meals in the Blanc Palace, or choose to have breakfast in the Sa Caleta Playa. As the Blanc Palace is a 4 star Thompson Platinum Hotel, it goes without saying that the food was very good. The problem arises in the Two tier system which is applied to Dinner. All S'a Caleta customers had to go to the earlier sitting 6-7.30. The paper table clothes and napkins were replaced by proper linen for the 2nd sitting when the Blanc Palace customers came in. If you arrived at 7pm for your meal you would find the food being cleared away and the floors swept in readyness for the Blanc Palace customers. It positivly screamed 1st and 2nd class!
The All-Inclusive finished at 11pm on the Dot when the Bar closed completley. The "Entertainment" was not very good to say the least and the Kids entertainment was run for and by a German team, so was delivered in German. Sadly, as the resort is so small, there wasn't any alternative.
The two weeks we were there must have been the busiest of the year. The compex was heavily overbooked, several people had to spend their 1st night at other hotels or in rooms which were not booked. We had booked two, one bedroomed apartments and were given one, two bedroom apartment when we arrived.
Having said that, the room issues were resolved swiftly and a couple of plumbing problems in our apartment were dealt with very quickly.
Sunbeds were an issue, there simply wasnt enough of them.
Our rooms were cleaned three times each week, the bedding changed once, towels changed three times.
The Ant problem which others mention is an island wide problem I think, you just have to be aware of it as you would at home and not leave anything out that would attact them.
One of the resorts redeaming feature is it's proximity to Cuidadella. Buses are frequent or its a cheap taxi fare and about 5 minutes away. Its well worth a visit.
I personaly would not ever go back to either the resort or either the Blanc Palace or the Sa Caleta Playa. I can, however, see how it would suit families with little ones.

“Excellent holiday we all had a great time.”

We have just come home after a weeks all inclusive holiday. When we read some of the reviews saying how bad it was i felt that i had to say something positive. If you are a young family looking for a cheap and relaxing getaway then this is the place. Our children loved it spending most of their time in the pool which was never overcrowded or on the waterslide. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was varied and nice. The beach is just a pretty little cove ideal for children paddling and swimming in. Overall just a very chilled holiday the children were happy which made it a relaxing holiday for adults. Would recommend.

“Fantastic holiday, i;ve been going since a child and still love it at 23”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

Sa caleta playa has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Beautiful beach, lovely apartments and it situated either a short bus ride or 20mins walk from the old capital cuitadella where you'll find plenty of shops and a market weekly.

I've been coming since i was about 11 and loved it then, with the pool, slide , kids club and child friendly entertainment, it had everything we needed as a family. I now come here every 2 years with my parents. Its not somewhere to go if you want clubbing or extensive night-life, but it does offer entertainment and you can find some bars locally is required.

The rooms have all basic facilities, but to be honest, its such a beautiful place, you won't be spending much time in your room.

“would i have gone back every year for 16 years if not top notch!!”

when you read some off these reviewes would you listen to some 1 who has been once, not liked it for 1 reason or another and looking for some money back, or some one like my self who has been to these apartments every year [some times twice a year] for 16 years?? i live in cornwall with a seaview from bedroom window so my holiday that i work hard for all year has a lot to live up to, sa caleta playa apartments do that! the first time i visited 16 years ago was with my husband and 2 daughters one age 15 and one age 10, there was some thing for every 1, fantastic beach on doorstep [fantastic snorkling] beautifull pools [1 with water slide] entertainment brilliant, kids club off doing allsorts, evening entertainment starts with bits for kids then goes on to other stuff, dancers, kareoke, competitions realy something for every 1, ALL the staff cannot do enough for you from alberto the entertainer who works his socks of with things going on all day,[shooting, pool, waterpolo, aquarobics, allsorts] if you dont want to partisipate in entertainment then you can just chill at side of 1 of the pools listening to bachatta music topping up your tan, or wonder down the 6 steps to beach. gloria and girls in reception are on hand to assist you with ANYTHING, the shop is allways wellstocked with anything you may need. there is a bar here run by juan and staff all of who are realy friendly and full of fun, and a restaurant where nothing is too much trouble. i have also taken friends here with children aged 4 and 8 and other friends with no children all who have since been back so it reals is suited to all ages with or without family. if you dont want to stop on site you can either go over road where there 4 more places where you can eat 1 being a chinease restaurant, and a large gift shop. it takes about 20 mins to walk in to the old capital ciutadella where there are quaint cobbled streets, plenty of eating places and shoppers paradise! or you can walk the other way for about 5 mins to santandria and on to cala blanca. so now you have read my report give it a try, trust me you will not be dissapointed!! you will get people who complain about the ritz if they think they can get a couple of quid back!! i realy would not go back every year if this place was not up to scratch! would i recomend it to familys with little kids? yes, with teenagers?yes, couples? definate to all! might i just add we also go all over europe so this is not a bias review as i only go here! get you case packed and we will prob see you there!! gail, might i just add rooms cleaned daily, linen changed twice a week and clean towels every second day, rooms are very spacious with all the hot water you want [problem every else i have been] fridge, cooking rings and fully equiped kitchenette, we have shared a 1 bedroom apartment with our kids, and we have also shared 1 bedroom apartment with our friends,

“Don't go half board”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2009

Please bear in mind this was October 1/2 term.

Reception - Lovely welcome, very freindly and informative. Wanted us to call down if there were any problems with the appartment (which there was not).

Appartments - Not the best it has to be said but comfortable. Kitchen area is tiny but this was not a problem for us as we knew we would be eating out. As this is only a small complex all the balconies were facing the pool / bar or kids play area which was good. Balconies were also on both sides of the appartment so we got the sun coming up in the morning and watched it going down in the evening. No TV which were happy about. If you only want the room as a base then this is more than adaquate if you want any sort of luxury then it's not for you.

Complex - 3 pools. All were good (water was cold, and I mean cold). Enough sun beds to go around, no one was hogging them and there was no need to get up at the crack of dawn. Very family orientated, lovely atmosphere around the pools, music from the bar area was just the right volume. Kids play area seemed okay although did'nt seem to be used very much. Our son didn't want to go to the Kids club so can't really coment on that other than the kids who did go seemed to enjoy themselves.

Bar area - This was okay althougth the service was bit slow on occasions but nothing worth worrying about. 3.5 euro for a large beer which with the exchange rate is a bit pricey.

Restaurant - Not good at all i'm afraid. There is a problem with flies which just made this a no go area for eating in, this was a shame because it would have been handy to use as there was wasn't many local places open. I got the impression that any one who was half board was extremely unhappy which probably hampered there entire holiday.

Entertainment - Good for young children, farly low key. A bit of karaoke which was fun, music quiz / movie quiz.. Alberto the entertainer was a class guy. Games room included air hockey, pool table, table tennis, Internet access and an arcade game. This was okay but a bit grubby, I quess it was end of season.

Beach - The beach is right outside the complex which was great, however don't expect miles of sandy beaches in sa caleta it is more of a rugged coast line. It is more of a cove than a beach but this was great for swimming in and diving of the rocks. Although my first impression was of dissapoinment this became the highlight of the holiday for me.

Sa Caleta - Not a busy place by any means but nice enough. There is a commercial centre with a few bars and a Chinese restaurant which was okay. Opposite is the Ocean restaurant this was good but was only open at the weekend. Pharmacy is close which although we didn't need it was reassuring to have one so close. The bus stop is 150 yards from the complex, for approx 1.50 euro took you into Ciutadella. We used this once but we preffered to walk it in (25 mins) and then taxi back fot 6.5 euro.

Ciutadella - Very lovely city / town. Lots of places to eat, very Spanish. No pie and chips or John Smiths. Lots of good shops and some great cafes especially around the harbour.

Summary - We met some lovely like minded people on this holiday who understood that you get what you pay for, for 1/2 term this was very good value. We had a great time, sure there were some things that could / should have been better but it was only 2* so what do people expect. As family holidays go this was just what we wanted for this time of year, great for families with young children. Just don't go half board!!!!
