Just back from a 10 day stay at the Sol Menorca and can report that overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

Check in was pain free and was initially allocated a room. (111) On first inspection we were a little disapointed with the view and the fact the bathroom needed a bit of TLC so was allowed to view an upgrade room (201) which we took at an additional 23 Euros a night but considered it well worth it for the better view, increased balcony and some other little touches, bathrobes etc.

The Staff were first rate through out the 10 days and were able to answer the usual trivia about buses etc with a smile and were genuinley pleased to assist, even up to the point in surprising us with a bottle of bubbly as it was my b'day whilst we were there.

Breakfast buffet was fine and most tastes were catered for, my only personal gripe was that the milk was never chilled enough for my liking.

Evening meal was again similar and although only June and not at full capacity the hot plate chap was flat out trying to keep the line up to a modest size. Overall the Food was good and we certainly never went hungry.

The entertainment provided by Alberto and Nadia was fun and they worked really hard trying to get folk involved, some nice acts came in to assist most evenings and whilst hardly Vagas they were enjoyable and watching the lizards sneek round the walls catching moths was also amusing.

The location in Santa Tomas is truly 5 start and really suited us being a little low key and peaceful. Its a shame some of the Beaches have been reduced due to some recent stormy weather and some of the brochure / google images are a little misleading.

We had a Hire Car from Auto Pons which are located in a small arcade near to the hotel for 3 days which cost 85 Euros, substantially less than the Avis desk in the hotel, OK the cars are a bit older than the avis but who cares, it went well enough and had air con which was a must as the June temps were higher than we expected.

There is a Bus Stop right outside the hotel and it was 2.95 each into Mahon which took between 35-40 mins depending on how many were at the various stops.

One place I can really recommend visiting is the La Mola Fortress in Mahon. It was only 7e's to get in and the place is vast and a truly amazing piece of history if you are into that sort of thing. It was a bit of a mare to find due to some local road works but is well worth the visit, be warned though, its a good walk round so flip flops are not a great idea!

It was nearly 100% kiddy free, which again was to our liking and in view of the fact the Pool was nearly 4m at the deep end it is probably a good thing.

Overall, yes we will go back, it was certainly the best in Sant Thomas and some people we spoke to were on their 14th trip so that must say it all really.

Wonderful hotel with pleasant courteous staff. Stayed in a double room with comfortable bed good decor although storage space was limited. We were half board and found the buffet style restaurant to be much better than expected with excellent variety of food and very good quality You could have freshly cooked fish and meat although this meant a very short wait which is only to be expected if you like it cooked to order. Breakfast was a good variety of fruit, cereals and bread or the usual cooked items or you could order freshly cooked omeletes which were very good. The pool area was large spacious and extremely clean, you could take part in various activitys organised by Alberto & Nadia and they went out of their way to make you very welcome on the other hand if you just want to relax you can do so. The reort itself is small and not suited to those looking to party and dance into the small hours, it is a beautiful place to relax and has good bus links into the major towns on the island if you want to shop. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and we will definitley return

The entrance to the hotel has amazing views, you instantly feel like you're in paradise. It is extremely clean and the staff are very friendly although not over the top.

The views surrounding the hotel are astounding and this stays with you in your room particularly when on the balcony. A family room is of a good size with a good sized childs bed although storage space is a bit of a let down, it was quite difficult to keep the room tidy due to lack of storage.

The restaurant is of a very good size and is very bright and airy. There is plenty of choice with both breakfast and evening meals, however, it was not suitable for younger children. The menu remains consistant each day and it would be nice to see other dishes on offer. Meat and fish are prepared upon request if you're willing to wait with everyone else in the queue for it to be cooked. Having gone for the meat once during my stay I have to say it was very poor, there was more fat than meat and it merely looked at the grill rather than cooked on it. Each dish I did try through out my stay overall was poor, more often than not it was cold and at times it was hard to tell what I was eating. Sweets are ofen flourescent in colour which I found a little off putting.

Be sure to take plenty of spending money if you are planning on having drinks at the hotel as they are very expensive. Three small plastic cups of orange fanta & two cokes cost me 18 euro's.

The hotel pool is heavenly it has a separate section for younger children to play in which is not too deep. It is a large pool and when sat around it you still get the wonderful views of the ocean. There is plenty of space around the pool and did not feel crowded.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Sol Menorca it is very child friendly yet not crowded with children. There is lots of entertainment put on by staff throughout the day and night but you don't have to join in if you don't want to. I really can't fault how friendly & helpful the staff were during my stay. I would definately return there in the future although maybe only B&B rather than half board.

Overall I would give the hotel 8 out of 10 had the food been better I would not been able to find any faults with the Sol Menorca and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of staying there.

As an ‘out of season traveller’ my reviews will not always reflect hotel services and conditions in high season but I found Sol Menorca Hotel to be a light, airy and spacious hotel right on the coast with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. All areas are spotlessly clean. The pool area and gardens are well kept and the ocean views are superb. There is also a nice coastal path to walk along with seating and a few bars. The beaches are sandy with shallow waters and both very clean. The bedrooms and balconies are a little small but for the time you spend in them it doesn’t really matter. The bathrooms are large and clean. You can get Sky news on the TV’s.
The restaurant has nice, comfortable furniture and has views on three sides and is not too cramped. There are outside terraces. Breakfast has plenty to offer with fresh cooked omelettes and eggs. The evening buffet has a variety of international dishes and most nights a chef will cook fresh meat and fish to order. The quality of food is very good for a buffet and if you do have a cold/warm dish, there is a microwave oven to heat it up! Wine is a bit pricey. In fact most of the drinks are expensive. Gin and tonic and a pint of beer, 8.5 euros. However, each room has a little fridge so you can purchase wine , etc from the little supermarket down the road for a pre-dinner drink if you are on a budget (or just tight like my husband!!!). English papers can be purchased at the shop and bottled drinking water (hotel recommendation). You can hire a kettle from the hotel for tea/coffee in your room. Entertainment is arranged each night in the bar area. Staff are pleasant and helpful although not all speak a lot of English.
There is a bus stop right outside the hotel, which is useful if you do not want to hire a car. There is also an English Bar nearby which shows English football games for those who cannot live without them!!!!!! So, all in all, a good all rounder but not for those who want a lot of ‘night action’ or lots of little restaurants and bars to choose from. Excellent holiday location and only a 2 hour flight.....

This hotel is well equipped, serves excellent food, has extremely friendly, helpful staff, is immaculately looked after and in an excellent location so much so that many of the patrons had revisited on many occasions.

The sea view rooms, equipped with rerigerator, look over the pool area to the sea. There are lots of areas in which to sunbathe and a lovely beach is just across a pedestrian promenade from the hotel. Varied entertainment is provided six nights a week.

Food is buffet style and of excellent quality with a large varied selection. Be aware that the pasta is likely to need heating which is something the staff will be happy to do for you. At breakfast omelettes of your choice are cooked in front of you.

The resort is small, quiet, quite upmarket and probably best suited for families with young children wanting a beach holiday or couples wanting a quiet break. if you want wild night life Santo thomas is not the place for you.

If you go to any of the quieter beaches be aware that there are lots of beach bums..... of the bare variety.....as these places seem infested with naturists most of whom hardly add to the scenic quality!!!!!!

There are regular, cheap bus services from outside the hotel to Mao(Mahon) and Ciutadella. In the former a boat ride around the harbour is a must as is a wander round the old town in the latter.

Car hire is strongly recommended with the roads generally very quiet and driving standards good as, other than the buses above, access to other parts of the island is difficult. Parking in Mao or Ciutadella is difficult and these are probably best visited by bus.

There are lots of beautiful beaches around the island and lots of excellent, and easy, walking though one would need to purchase a walking guide before travelling. A coastal path goes round the island though is very rough underfoot at times.

There lots of birds of prey with red and black kite common. We were privileged, in the Galdana Gorge, to see five booted eagles flying around totally unconcerned by our presence.

The historic taulas and talyots are worth visiting and some are easily accessed from the Mao to Ciutadella main road.

Minorca, by Eastern Mediterranean standards, is quiet and unspoiltnand certainly not a concrete jungle
