Just back from a 10 day stay at the Sol Menorca and can report that overall we enjoyed our stay very much.
Check in was pain free and was initially allocated a room. (111) On first inspection we were a little disapointed with the view and the fact the bathroom needed a bit of TLC so was allowed to view an upgrade room (201) which we took at an additional 23 Euros a night but considered it well worth it for the better view, increased balcony and some other little touches, bathrobes etc.
The Staff were first rate through out the 10 days and were able to answer the usual trivia about buses etc with a smile and were genuinley pleased to assist, even up to the point in surprising us with a bottle of bubbly as it was my b'day whilst we were there.
Breakfast buffet was fine and most tastes were catered for, my only personal gripe was that the milk was never chilled enough for my liking.
Evening meal was again similar and although only June and not at full capacity the hot plate chap was flat out trying to keep the line up to a modest size. Overall the Food was good and we certainly never went hungry.
The entertainment provided by Alberto and Nadia was fun and they worked really hard trying to get folk involved, some nice acts came in to assist most evenings and whilst hardly Vagas they were enjoyable and watching the lizards sneek round the walls catching moths was also amusing.
The location in Santa Tomas is truly 5 start and really suited us being a little low key and peaceful. Its a shame some of the Beaches have been reduced due to some recent stormy weather and some of the brochure / google images are a little misleading.
We had a Hire Car from Auto Pons which are located in a small arcade near to the hotel for 3 days which cost 85 Euros, substantially less than the Avis desk in the hotel, OK the cars are a bit older than the avis but who cares, it went well enough and had air con which was a must as the June temps were higher than we expected.
There is a Bus Stop right outside the hotel and it was 2.95 each into Mahon which took between 35-40 mins depending on how many were at the various stops.
One place I can really recommend visiting is the La Mola Fortress in Mahon. It was only 7e's to get in and the place is vast and a truly amazing piece of history if you are into that sort of thing. It was a bit of a mare to find due to some local road works but is well worth the visit, be warned though, its a good walk round so flip flops are not a great idea!
It was nearly 100% kiddy free, which again was to our liking and in view of the fact the Pool was nearly 4m at the deep end it is probably a good thing.
Overall, yes we will go back, it was certainly the best in Sant Thomas and some people we spoke to were on their 14th trip so that must say it all really.
