“Don't do it!”

This is by far the worst holiday appartements I have ever had the misfortune to use.
On arrival - 15:00 local time - there was no one to greet us except for a friendly security man who only speaks spanish. After a game of charades we managed to get the key to the room. What a let down, both my wife and I felt like crying - it really is that bad.
The general cleanliness is very poor, the marble tiled floor is cracked and raised in places high enough so that you can (and I did) stubb your toe. The quality of the furnature was almost beyond belief. Firstly the beds - 2 single beds of the metal frame variety, very low to the floor, the base was covered with a sheet of chip board as all the springs were knackered. On top of this sits a 4 inch thick foam mattress with a very shabby cover, torn and stained. The sheets were pure cotton but that old they were worn through in places - yes they had holes in! We sayed there a full fortnight and they were only changed once.
The soffa in the "living room" is actually a sofa bed and again sits very close to the floor when set as a sofa - we never tried to set it up as a bed. This also has the obligatory chip board and 4 inch foam matress - sofa base. This is very old and badly stained as it the sofa back itself. There is a table and 4 chairs but the table legs were that bent over we dare not pull it out for the fear it would fall over. All the fittings and fixtures were very old and worn out. The decor is laughable, for exampl in the bedrood you could see some one had tried to give it a coat of paint but could only reach about 6 feet up the wall so an uneven stripe around the room seperated the old paint from the new - it would have been funny if everything else was in good order.
The bathroom is an all tiled wet room as you would expect and everything worked as it should but, the shower stall is tiny so that the shower curtain is constantly in contact with you while you shower, as with everthing else it is badly stained and there is no bath. In the kitched there is a hob but no oven or microwave so self catering is a bit of a joke. The toaster, kettle and fridge all worked fine though. The room was attended almost daily by a spanish lady who emptied the kitchen bin and changed the towels but not once was the room cleaned during our stay.
This place is advertized as having 2 swimming pools - salt water. This is the main reason we chose the place.....both pools are out of use and condemmed.....yet another let down.
There is no air con or TV in the rooms either although a TV is available to rent - so i was told.
As part of the building there is an ICELAND supermarket run by british staff. This is a good shop if a little expensive compared with other local supermarkets but all it did was annoy us as most of the food in there needed either a microwave or an oven - which we didn't have as I have already said.
The local beach is non existant - its all rocks and as the tide comes in it batters up against a sea wall. This meant a long walk into Los Cristianos to a man made beach which was very nice and also kept very clean - 9 euros for 2 sunbeds and a parasol though....
Night time was also a bit of an annoyance.
Again one of the reasons we stayed at this end of Los Cristianos is so that we were away from all the night life....at least that was the plan. Unfortunately across the road from the Costa Mar are a row of bars and at night are in compatition with each other to produce the most horrendous noises possible. The weapon of choice was "caberet" singers bellowing and destroying all the favorite karoke tunes you know from your local pub - what a noise as all three go at it at the same time singing different songs over the top of each other...this goes on till around 01:00 or so and there is no getting away from it as closing the windows and balcony door is not an option due to the heat and no air conditioning.
So all in all we could not wait to get home.....very poor holiday

“Lovely Location but very dated accomodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

We stayed at the Costamar 21st September 2011 for one week on the 4th floor i would not have stayed any higher in this building due to the fact of safety in a fire!! In its day it was probably was great but it is very dated, we were on the fourth floor with spectacular views the room itself was clean but we only used it to sleep in, we did have several cockroaches sneak out from under the kitchen cupboards, we only paid £200.00 each so couldnt really complain, in my opinion the place needs a complete overhaul, we sat one morning and watched the amazement the maintenance man filling holes on the roof of the costamar building next door with scrunched up newspaper and concreting over the top!!! We wouldnt go back again to this building purely as its very dated with no pool bu we did have an amazing holiday in los cristianos and the people beaches and restaurants are lovely

“dont go tothese appartments”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We returned from our holiday on thursday 29th Sept and feel i have to inform you of the state of the accomadation at Costamar Appartments in los Christianos Tenerife.
We arrived expecting 24 hour reception after arriving at about 5pm we waited nearly 45 mins befor a security guard appeared he di not speak english and gave us an envelope with keys to an appartment on the 8th floor. we went to the room and befor going in there was alot of building noise and the appartment opposite was like a building site with brick rubble being brought out and piles of rubble could be seen in the room. The appartment we entered and found it unsafe as there were electical wires hanging from wall lights, none of the electrical sockets were secure, and all hanging from the walls, one even had no front on it with bare wires showing. The bathroom ceiling plaster and paint was hanging down, the draining rack in the kitchen cupboard were the pots were stored was extremely rusty and it would have been hazardas to heath to have used these glasses and pots. The kitchen cupboard door nearly came off in my hand falling and nearly hitting me on the head. We went back to the security guard and asked him to come to the room telling him it was dangerous, he did come to look but said we would have to see reception in the morning and he could not do anything. we did see the reception next morning and were moved to another room which was better and appeared safer but was not of a very good standard. we then went to see the swimming pool to find it was closed and were told it was condemmed and had been since March, this was not in the information about the accommadation and there was even a photo of the pool in the information we read prior to going on holiday, we were allowed to use the pool in the hotel across the road in the Paloma Beach. we feel the Costamar was misrepresented in the advertisement of it and we would not have chosen this accomadation had we been aware if the state of the rooms and the pool being closed.
we would welcome your comments on the above.

Zoe

“One Costamar - two standards”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Reading the reviews of the Costamar apartments really worried me prior to departure. So there needs to be some clarity about what you get and why.

We stayed in a privately owned apartment on the third floor with a partial sea view. That almost certainly accounts for the disparity between reviews on Trip Advisor. Our apartment was reasonably well equipped with hob, fridge, microwave, oven, toaster, hairdryer, satellite tv and stereo. The rooms were of a reasonable size with a pleasant sunny balcony and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. In two weeks no cockroach ever crossed our path either inside our rooms or anywhere else in the block. However we did speak to others who had booked through travel companies and there was considerably less satisfaction!

Yes - the lifts are slow(-ish) and certainly the pool remains closed as of the end of September 2011 which is the biggest complaint. The Costamar is a basic building with few frills but I've paid far more to stay in far worse accommodation. The area around the Costamar is certainly 'Britain-With-Sunshine' with lots of pubs, Chinese restaurants, karoake bars and a (genuine) branch of Iceland. Mums will love it!

Crime is an issue in Los Cristianos/Las Americas and caution with valuables is certainly advised. The thieves are well-skilled and even residents are not immune from bag stealers and pickpockets but don't walk in fear - this is not a hotbed of crime and depravity! Just take sensible precautions and use lots of common sense.

My advise - use the internet holiday rental sites to find a privately owned apartment and use the pool at the Paloma Beach apartments. That way you should get decent value for money without the problems mentioned by other reviewers

.

“never again!!”

Me and my mum have just returned from a week at the Costa Mar. When we arrived at the apartment we got chatting to two ladies who informed us they had their bags stolen by the pool area. That was a great start to the holiday!! We stayed on the 10th floor in room 101. As we entered the room we had a good look round and noticed dirty cutlery, dirty crockery and filthy bedding and towels. We couldnt wait to get ready and go out! After one night of staying at the Costa Mar my mum came out in a rash all over her body from head to toe, she couldnt stop itching, we got told it was SCABIES!! We had either caught it from the sheets or the bath towels. It totally ruined our holiday!! By the end of the week I had it too and just wanted to go home. We ended up leaving the apartment the day before we were due to go home because we just had enough!! I know it was a cheap holiday but they still need to make sure its clean but it was disgusting.
