“beware of room on far side of the hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Let me start by saying that the staff at this hotel were rude and discourteous, particularly Stavroula and Electra. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.
While on a trip to Greece on a Top Deck Island Hopper Tour my travelling companion and I were subjected to some very poor treatment indeed. On arrival we were given our room keys by our tour supervisor and went to find our room. After searching for twenty minutes we could not locate the phantom room and were forced to ask reception for assistance. Grudgingly, we were finally led to the room. Before actually arriving at the room we were led down a seedy ally where shady vendors sat selling illegal merchandise and our room was next to the laundry and hotel garbage receptacles.
The room itself was so small that my friend and I could not move without brushing past each other. The beds were so small that my friends legs dangled over the edge.
We decided to complain armed with fellow members of the tour who were likewise disgusted by our offered accomodation. The women at counter can most politely be described as rude and stubborn refusing to offer us alternative room. After much arguing, our tour conductor arranged for our room to changed. We were then led away from the main complex to a secondary accomodation located over a kilometre away and uphill. On first sight, the new room was spacious so we decided to try and make the best of it desite our numerous reservations about the staff.
Furthermore, the drain in the room did not work properly, forcing us to shower in a shin deep pool of tepid filth. To add insult to injury, my friend's money clip went missing in the room because the door seemed to have a faulty lock. Needless to say when we requested help from Stavroula at the front desk they were less than helpful. We requested to use their phone to ring the police and make the necessary arrangements. My friend was told that we would have to do this on the public phone located outside the hotel. So much for customer service...
My friend's money clip was later found under the bed, sans money and cards. We suspect an inside job.
Finally, do we need to mention the breakfast buffet? Stale cereal and a gruel like goop with chopped peppers do not a breakfast buffet make...

Room Tip: Beware of rooms outside main area

“Beware of Goldilocks' Cubby House”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Let me first say that we were taken to this hotel as part of the Top Deck Greek Island Hopper - Euro Summer 2011. I feel compelled to express my extreme dissatisfaction with accommodation, personnel and safety.
I am not one to complain about hotels unless confronted with something truly horrendous.
Firstly, on arrival we were given our room key by tour guide Stella Smith (more on her later). Upon seeking our room for 30 minutes, we were told that our room was not in the main vicinity with our fellow tour members. Instead, we were lead out the front reception and around to an unsavoury dirt alley where our room was flanked by the hotel's garbage receptacles and laundry. Moreover, two shady men sat outside the door selling what seemed to be counterfeit merchandise. "You buy it!" they shouted aggressively. This was enough to give myself and my travelling companion pause, and yet we had not entered the room.
Upon entry, we were greeted by a room that would be best described as a cubby house designed for the likes of Hansel and Gretel as opposed to two large, burly twenty-somethings. We could barely move around without making phyical contact (not hyperbole). My companion then attempted to lie on the child size bed. Needless to say, at 6"4, his legs dangled from the bottom. It must be noted that fellow tour members observed the room and also urged us to complain. So disgusted with our accommodation, they offered to allow us to share with them since four to a standard room would still be more spacious than what we encountered. My travelling companion thrust his backpack in disgust and we made our way to front reception. My friend and I wanted to spend the tour together as mates, but not this close together! After the five minute walk back, dodging the shady vendors and over strewn garbage and assorted filth (of the human variety), we were finally greeted by the surly and obstreperous Stavroulos who was the front counter receptionist.
She listened to complaints, her face hardened and disinterested, refusing to accommodate our request for a better room. Her attitude was simply 'too bad, too sad'. It was not until after we forced our tour coordinator to act on our behalf that our rooms were changed.
Hence another chapter of misfortune begins. Firstly, the room was literally located a full kilometre away from the main complex and our fellow tour mates (8 minute walk uphill). This made getting breakfast a trial indeed!
Upon initial inspection, the room seemed pleasant and very spacious, but like dating, you only truly see the truth on a second date. Relieved at finally being able to move without our shoulders brushing we decided to look around. We first discovered that there was no phone in our room despite being told that every room would have one! This was perturbing to say the least, but we simply shrugged and decided to enjoy our new found space.
However, showering proved to be unhygienic and unpleasant. A blocked drain meant that the second person to shower would have to do so, shin deep, in a tepid pool of grey filth. Imagine being the last child to bathe in a poverty stricken Victorian home , more akin to a Dickensian tale than luxurious four star accommodation.
We also looked outside and noticed we were in rural Greece as sheep and mountain goats frolicked in a nearby pasture. This was odd, but not unpleasant, unlike the shower. We came for an island getaway, not to spend our time as Spartan helots herding the goats.
Our perils were further compounded when the door's malfunctioning lock (deliberately perhaps?) lead to my friends money clip being stolen from within a draw. Later the money clip was discovered, sans money and cards ( we suspect an inside job, however, were unable to gather enough evidence considering we were on vacation in a foreign land).
This event brought us back into the cold and condescending presence of receptionist Stavroulos. My friend asked to use the phone in reception to make necessary calls and arrangements (cancel cards, contact tour coordinator), even offering to pay for the calls. Instead, Stavroulos insisted he use the public phone located outside, in the street. Her rudeness did not stop there as she kept urging us toward the exit and said the hotel could not put itself on hold for two guests. We left her with a few choice words in our native English.

Must I be forced to mention the substandard breakfast buffet??? I don't think cereal, boiled eggs and a grey gruel with chopped peppers qualifies as a buffet, but I could be mistaken!!!!

Otherwise a pleasant stay....

Travellers Beware!!!

“Rude miserable staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I stayed here in September, Mykonos was lovely, the location of the hotel is lovely nice beach.

The staff: Our first Morning we were woken by a very loud noise when I went see what it was there was a power cut and the generator was right next to our room, I went to the reception to ask how long it may last for (this was 8am) and to enquire how often this may happen the receptionist Elektra said "how would I know I'm not a electrian!! I said "you work here you must have some idea!!" So rude!! Breakfast was lovely each morning sat overlooking the beach but the staff were so miserable NEVER smiled and if you asked for more coffee you were made to feel like you were putting them out!! The Swimming pool is nice but not many sunbeds and sheltered from the sun, but why would you sit by a pool when there is a wonderful beach. The Greek Night at the hotel was good.

The bus stop to Mykonos Town was right outside the hotel and took about 15 minutes every 30 minutes till midnight costing about 5 euros return. Mykonos town was so lovely, I have been to many Greek Islands and this was just stunning. This is a VERY windy island and sometimes difficult to walk around but in the narrow streets of Mykonos town you are sheltered from it. The food on the island is reasonably priced, drinks especially on the beach can be pricey 6 euros for a bottle of beer.

I know that there were lots of problems with the Petinos Appartments (same group of hotels) but cheaper and up a steep hill, guests from there were moved to our hotel because they had rats run over their heads and bitten in the night, also droppings on the floor by the fridge and holes in the walls where the rats had eatten through!! maybe not a good place to stay.

We ate most lunch times at the Mykonos Palace and used their sunbeds the food here is fantastic and the staff lovely I think I may stay here next time.

“Gorgeous hotel with the most stunning view”

We were extremely impressed not only with the Petinos Hotel but also with Mykonos! This place is amazingly beautiful!!!

On arrival a hotel bus was waiting to pick us up even though this was not supposed to be included per our travel agent.

We got to the hotel at 12pm which is a lot earlier than check-in, but were told they will have the room ready in an hour for us.

Rooms are small (as with all european hotels), but it is so pretty and the view!!! We looked out over the entire Platy Gialos bay.

The staff were all extremly friendly. Breakfast was quite extensive and tasteful.

All round stunning hotel! Will definitely return.

“Petinos Apartments”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

You arrive at the hotel and they allocate your room number. Luckily, the coach drops the bags at the apartments as it is quite a slog uphill.

We stayed in apartment 8, which is split into A and B, both with beds and bathrooms. The living space was ample with a fool cooker/oven. We had three terraces to use, and were grateful for the shade that came at 2.30 in the afternoon. But if you are a sun-lover there is a higher terrace to sit on for afternoon/evening sunshine.

Maid service was the best I have had in my 22 years of travelling - clean towels everyday, beds made each day, with linen changed at least twice a week.

It was a bit of a trek down to the beach, and uphill all the way back.

Speaking to other people there, they liked all the apartments, except No 1 and No 14 (small and dark).

There was only one down side - pesky doves cooing all the time.

Room Tip: No 8 and No 13 were the best, 1 and 14 were no goes. Not suitable for older people due to steps and...
