Circumstances meant that we could only book the week before travel and so options were limited. However, the First Choice agent assured us that Club Palm Beach was a 3/4 star hotel with plenty to do in the area. This may be true in summer, it is not true in October.
The Hotel Staff - Very helpful. The bar staff, in particular, were always polite and efficient and most (except one!) always greeted customers with a smile. The cleaners did as good a job as I would expect and always said hello when you passed them in the corridors. Reception staff - helpful and polite.
Entertainment Staff - as other reviews have mentioned, this group of people clearly work hard and by the last week of the season, they were still putting in effort to a rapdily diminishing audience. That said, I don't think they have a massive budget - for example, to get flashing lights during music, someone had to flick the light switch on and off repeatedly - probably not a great from a safety perspective, either! I was, however, impressed with the cultural diversity and language skills of the group.
Food - For a predominantly all-inclusive hotel, I was not overly impressed. All-day snack choice was: ham and cheese toastie (slimy, plastic ham), microwaved burger (I didn't have one because they looked very unappealing) or hot dog (again, didn't have one) - that was the full range. On the plus side, that did mean I didn't over-indulge!
The restaurant food was better with what, at first, you would say is a decent selection. However, it became very repetitive - lunch and dinner being almost the same every day.
Rooms - Average - could have done with updating.
Facilities - Under-Average - Whilst table tennis and crazy golf only needed a deposit, tennis had to be paid for - and it wasn't cheap: £6 per hour per person (though in reality, with it being quiet, we got as long as we wanted). Air hockey at 1euro - but there was a hand shooter missing! No spa or on-site shop. There really was little to do in the hotel. Pool is a decent size.
Location - Right on beach edge so fantastic if you want to swap between pool and beach. Town of Playa d'en Bossa is about a 15min walk either along the main road or the beach. I'm sure at the height of the season this place will feel really vibrant but by October many shops and bars have packed up for the season - leaving it feeling a bit like a ghost town. We were particularly disappointed that the waterpark (which First Choice had made a selling point) had closed at the end of September.
We hired a car to explore the island and that was the best thing we did - highly recommend Ibiza town - old (within castle walls) and new parts. This is a living town so everything remains open - good cosmopolitan feel to it. Santa Eulalia - lovely quiet seaside resort - felt a bit Victorian in October! Explore the little coves and beaches - brilliant.
We also found a nature reserve practically next to the hotel - but no-one tells you it's there. We only found it because I was bored out of my brains by the fifth day and headed towards what looks like the end of the beach to inaccessible rocks. Had a great time and saw some of the best parts of the island - absolute hidden gem.
Overall - I wouldn't recommend this hotel to someone who doesn't enjoy lying round a pool - there just isn't enough to keep you entertained. But Ibiza's hidden areas are well worth finding.
