We visited this hotel for 5 nights. Previously (2 years ago) I have stayed at Hotel Garbi, also located in Playa d'en Bossa which is also 4*. Before that I have stayed 3 times in a 2 star down in Figueretas-Ibiza (Lux Mar/Panoramic/Tropical Garden, which is basically the same complex). Both Garbi and Torre del Mar are way better compared to the 2 star in Figueretas. So I will leave that place/those 3 places out of the scope for this review.
Zooming in on the Torre del Mar compared to Garbi I would rate both of the hotels as comparable and give them 8 out 10 points (for Spanish standards).
People & bar
Overall I would say that Garbi is very hip, hot and happening. That hotel caters to the somewhat younger crowd so there is more stuff going on at the Garbi pool and lobby bar. Torre del Mar caters both to the party people as well as some just seeking some R&R. No families (in September), only saw 1 kid I guess. They do have a children's pool but is occupied by adults most of the time. The party people visiting Torre del Mar probably just party outside of the hotel because the atmosphere around the pool and hotel was mainly very relaxing/chill-out. There is a nice outside terrace at Torre del Mar with bar/food service but there is no lounge-like-lobby bar inside like at Hotel Garbi. Service at the bar for drinks is good. We did not like the food for lunch. Eat out (see next section)!
Location
So it was not a big pool party at Torre del Mar. However we loved the hotel nevertheless. It is just a short walk to places like Bora Bora (15 minute walk) or the taxi boat to Ibiza town, so you can enter the action anytime you want to. The Torre del Mar hotel in itself is more quiet than Hotel Garbi and this can be nice if you want to take it easy for some time (and you can enter the daytime party time and nightlife anyway within walking distance). There are some very good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. If you want to enjoy lunch walk towards Figueretas beach (left hand while standing in front of the hotel) and eat at some of the very nice restaurants over there. It is a 10 minute walk. You can walk from Ibiza town to this hotel using the gravel path that leads to the end of Figueretas. It probably is a 45 minute walk. I would grab a cab on your way down to Ibiza town. No taxis waiting at the hotel. Probably your best bet is to ask the reception to call one for you. We just went on the streets and had a hard time flagging a cab down. Or take the taxi boat (5 minute walk from hotel).
Pool & spa
The pool at Garbi is bigger (square at Garbi, round at Torre del Mar) and also their spa beats the Torre del Mar spa hands down. The Garbi spa is cool and nice whereas the Torre del Mar spa is a bit outdated. I loved the Garbi spa (for European standards) after a day in the sun and only visited Torre del Mar's spa once.
Service around the pool at Torre del Mar was outstanding! There is this S.O.S. guy working around the pool who is taking great care of the guests at the pool with sun loungers, tables (for drinks) and keeping the pool area clean warning people not to bring glasses into the pool etc. He is doing an outstanding job and I think he is one of the most valuable assets of this hotel! He makes you feel very welcome and treats you as royalty. One day he had a day off and service was noticeable worse that day. So the pool guy is a great guy offering great service. He seems to love his job and takes it very seriously. If you read this, thanks!
Rooms
The rooms at Torre del Mar are pretty OK. Nice detail, each room has a speaker in the ceiling and you can listen to 2 different Ibiza radio stations in your room; one playing house/dance music and the other station offering more chill-out/lounge music. Beds are OK (a bit hard, pretty cheap mattresses I guess), flat screen TV, bathroom is pretty OK and you have a small balcony. Room cleaning was perfect; also if you are sleeping in late (just use the do not disturb sign, this CAN be different in Spain/Ibiza you know). Room is pretty small, but adequate.
Noise
I read reviews that this hotel can be noisy? Actually, we never noticed any problems with noise. There is an in-room door between the hallway and your room and if you close this hardly any outside noise will enter the room. Maybe these complaints are from elderly people? We had no issues whatsoever.
Breakfast
Breakfast is great! Nice restaurant (view on the sea, lots of sun but good air conditioning) and the food is above par. Freshly squeezed orange juice in the morning! All kinds of breads, eggs, fruit, coffee, juices etc. Very good! I would say breakfast at Torre del Mar is better than Garbi's breakfast.
Generic
Service at the reception on check-in and check-out was good as well as their service if you have any questions. It took a while until the rooms where ready (1 at 15 hrs, the other only at 16 hrs) but who cares.
All in all a great hotel for the price we paid (EUR 680 for 5 nights in a double room during high season).
Room Tip: We had the cheapest room (view on the mountains) and it was OK for us.
