Just back from a week at the Sotovento Beach Club in Fueteventura. The holiday was good overall with some issues.
Resort:
The resort is a collection of nice 3 storey apartments nestled around an outdoor pool and a beautiful sandy beach. The resort was well kept clean and tidy and well laid out. The pool consisted of an adult pool and a smaller childrens pool. There was a gym, sauna, paddi dive center and kayaking possibilities all of which cost extra to use. There was a small playground for the kids and childminding facilities run by Neckermann. The animators were very good with the kids and they ran variety shows every evening for the adutls. The resort was family oriented and very quiet. It was mainly geared towards German tourists. The staff were generally very helpful and friendly.
Apartments:
The apartments were comfiortable and quiet. We stayed in an apartment with a beach facing balcony which was awesoome. The apartments were superfically clean and tidy however we noticed that the surfaces had not been properly cleaned when we arrived. Despite mentioning it to reception the surfaces were not cleaned during our stay.
On arrival we noticed that the lampshades in the main bedroom all had deep burn marks which was quite alarming. The bedside lights also lost power when moved slightly. We returned to our room one afternoon to find the entire apartment full with the fumes from burning electrics. We opened the windows and called Reception. They sent a technician who stuck his head in the door told us he could not smell anything and left. We were a bit shocked by the lack of interest. A couple of hours later we discovered the smell was coming from the the door bell ringer located inside the door and it looked like one of the capacitors had caught fire and burned. We informed Reception who sent the same technician. This time he was even less interested, promised to fix the problem in the morning and never returned. We found the whole lack of interest disturbing and complained when we were checking out of the hotel.
Food:
We stayed on an all inclusive holiday. The food was without exception very good for the whole week with a good mix of fruits, salads and meats.
The down side was the drinks. The hotel had a bizarre rule that in the evening you could not serve your own drinks from the dispensers. This had to be done by a waiter. This would not have been a problem if you could have got some service. We often waited 20 minutes for someone to serve us and when in desperation we would try to serve ouselves the waiters would complain. By the end of the week this was generating a lot of bad feeling and was a source of conflict with the staff.
Overall the holiday was good however we won't be going back. Towards the end we begining to get annoyed with the issues we were having with the service. We have had better holidays in the Canaries.
