“Genuine Review- Good Qaulity Hotel”

My Fiance & I went for Christmas 2011 (24th Dec to 31 Dec) and since it was for Christmas we wanted to make sure we went to a 'nice' hotel. We booked through Thomas Cook and whilst it wasn't cheap, we weren't looking for cheap and it was worth every penny.

The food was fab with a great selection of salads and starters with changes every night and also a lovely duck dish as an alternative to turkey and a few other nice meat dishes on Christmas and Boxing Day, the rest of the time the food was great too and the staff took great pride in the quality of food/service/cleanliness which they provided and every night the 'Big Boss' was greeting and supervising at the restaurant door.

Everything else was quality too from the reception area and staff to the rooms and bars and matresses on the loungers. BTW there were ample loungers and a good few choices of where to bed down for the day and 3 bars down by the pool and beach so you never had to go far for a top-up.

Whilst it was really lovely and everything was at a really high standard 2 things would prevent us returning;
1, there was only one place to go on an evening and it was the 'entertainment room & bar' so it would have been great if one of the beach/pool bars was open too.
2, there weren't many people for us to chat to as Brits were in a minority. We'd say it was 90% German, they were all very polite (no pushing and shoving like I've read about) but it wasn't so easy for us to chat freely and make friends as we like to do.

Room Tip: We wished we'd paid more and booked a beach facing room to have sun on the balcony

“Three star at a push”

Stayed here on a winter break with my wife from 7th to 14th Jan 2012. Booked with Thomas Cook although we don't normally do travel agents, we normally book independently. First impressions of the lobby were good. After that, it wasn't a disaster, but it was pretty average. The complex consists of the main hotel building and other apartment blocks in the grounds. We booked a twin hotel room and ended up with a one bedroom apt. Rooms were cleaned 5 times a week with the exception of Thurs. and Sun. Food. Pretty average. Never hot, warm at best although plenty of choice. We were all inclusive. Strangely enough, although they did not give bottled water with lunch or dinner, there was free beer/wine/sangria or soft drinks. Thats a first, for me anyway. Staff were friendly enough and helpful if needed. I disagree with the person below that said the beach at the hotel was great. The beach further along was excellent and went on for miles, but the beach directly at the hotel was very stoney. Pool is heated (slightly) which was nice, but still coolish going in. We went in the heated pool first then went in the unheated one. The area on the ground floor where the lift is, was a bit dingy and under lit but no big deal. The clientele were a mix of English and German. I hear people complaining that hotels are full of Germans. So what? Thats not a valid complain in my book. Leave them alone and they leave you alone. Entertainment? I didn't rate it. But then again I don't go on holiday for that. Others seem to have enjoyed it though and they had evening activities for children such as childrens disco. Costa Calma itself is a one horse town. Blink and you'll miss it. But we were there basically for a weeks chill out so we weren't too worried. We enjoyed just walking along the beach and lying at the pool most days. We did hire a car at the airport and went out during the week a couple of days. Cofete beach further south is amazing, breath taking in fact. But very inaccessible, a single dirt track road. One way in and one way out. Probably the nicest beach I was ever on. And so remote. On the section I was on, we had it to ourselves. All in all, not a bad holiday.

“Winter break at Costa Calma”

The trip was booked through Thomas Cook and the outward journey was brilliant with no delays and connections made with ease. The journey to the hotel took around an hour and booking in was easy and speedy.

We were housed on the ground floor, the room was pleasant enough with plenty of space, there was a bath and shower, however hot water was intermittent, probably due to the hotel being full, so first come first served. Brochure advertised satellite TV, and there was, but channels were all German and Spanish, the only English Channels were Sky News and BBC News, which are fine for about 10 minutes. The view from the patio looked out onto the side of the hotel, this caused us problems as people were constantly walking past and staring in, so just kept curtains closed, although some people requested to move. The cleaner came daily and was brilliant at maintaining cleanliness.

The hotel was clean and well maintained, the dining room is spacious and we had no problem in obtaining a table at times we wanted. The food was good, but again because of the German Clientele was pro dominantly Pork and Fish, with usual large amount of salad and cold food. the first week was the better for food, in the second week it slipped for some reason and there was no roast provided on three occasions, which was disappointing. The staff in the restaurant were first class clearing away your plates and obtaining a table for you.

There are two separate snack bars near the pool where you can get snacks and plenty of drinks, you help yourself to the beer and fizzy pop and hot drinks, spirits are obtained from the bar. The usual small cups are provided for drinks. Food is brought down for lunch to avoid you going to the restaurant. The pools were well maintained and cleaned daily, two were heated and one just cold, it was fun watching those who was unaware of the cold water pool as we watched them jump in and quickly jump out again trying to catch their breath ! There were plenty of sunbeds, but there would not be enough ineak times ! The beach is very close and provided some nice walks on the cooler days.

Entertainment in the hotel was provided by their own staff. In the day there were activities, such as Darts, shooting, volleyball and aerobics, but again Germans overtook the activities. Evening entertainment was poor and we only stuck it out when the hotel brought in outside entertainers and then it was not brilliant.

Outside the hotel there was little by way of entertainment a few shops and a couple of bars but nothing that wouldnt take an hour to walk around.

There is no permenant rep on complex, however you can call them.

In summary, this is good clean hotel, with plenty to eat and drink. Entertaining yourself is limited in and out the complex, if your there to relax and read a book brilliant, but if night life and shipping forget it.

Would I go again - No, only because of the location and nothing to do with hotel.

Room Tip: Request a see view and clearly state you do not want to be on the ground floor.

“Thomas Cook get your act together, this holiday cost us another 110 euros”

We arrived 16/11/2011. We where put in a dark room that smelt of drains, the terrace was like walking out into a rainforest. Reception were very unhelpful. They could not move us to Saturday 19/11/2011. The food was very poor definitely not 4star standard. The day before we moved my husband ended up being in hospital for the day due to vomiting, he had to have four drips. I would not recommend the Costa Calma Beach Hotel. The friendly staff were the dining and cleaners. We were so glad when we got on plane for our return journey. UK holidays for us now. Nightmare!!!

It is very nice complex close to beach but steep hill, good thing is that you can bring your drinks from bar to the beach. Food is nice and always something to choose from, much better than 3* hotels. If you can find good all inc. deal is nothing to worry about there. Plenty of parking space. Only thing thou is too many german nudists over 60yrs old may distract (scare you to death:) so better dont look but thats as all fuerteventura. If you travel as group of friends is great relax. Staff is friendly and helpful not much language skill but trying hard. Overall excellent break.
