This was a last minute holiday to relax in the sun. We we're offered half board free of charge and it was a good job as the whole of the Costa Calma seems to be an area full of all inclusive hotels with no life/restaurants/bars - no resort centre as such. The hotel itself had pod like rooms with en-suite bathrooms including a circular jacuzzi bath. The beds were comfortable and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. The meals alternated between an outside terrace and an internal restaurant which was formal dining. Although friendly and good quality started to get boring by the end of the week and there was nowhere else to go locally. Their were two pools which were clean but not as website details and spa area very poor. Our saving grace was hiring a car from the airport so that we could visit the many splendid beaches along that coast. Also the three girls from Holland on work internship made our stay much more enjoyable as they were friendly & chatty.

My boyfriend and I have just spent a week at the Hotel Risco del Gato in Costa Calma, and loved the hotel. It is quite unique, with accommodation in individual bungalow suites. These are extremely clean, comfortable and well-designed, with a completely private patio.

We found the hotel staff helpful and friendly, the food excellent, the gardens beautifully landscaped and the facilities (including gym, spa and massage) very good.

Costa Calma itself is not the most inspiring resort, although it has all the essentials a short walk away from the hotel, e.g. shops, cash machine, etc.

As its name suggests, the Risco del Gato (rough translation is "Cat Cliff") stands in an elevated position overlooking the sea. Unfortunately some of its view is now blocked by a fairly hideous new hotel that is still under construction. However the RdG still retains some good sea views and oozes class compared to the rest of the resort.

It caters primarily to German clients; if you don't speak any German or Spanish you may struggle with more complicated communications, but you would get by. A couple of the staff spoke English.

The hotel is ideal for a peaceful, relaxing break. It is most suited to adults in search of a little luxury in a quiet but friendly atmosphere.

This hotel is absolutely first class. Its cleanliness, the comfort of the rooms, bath robes and slippers, its locality to tremendous beaches, shopping and nearby restaurants, as well as its own superb restaurant make it very superior to other hotels in the Canaries. It is run with tremendous precision and attention to guests, and has great facilities for couples. It is not really a hotel for children as many people go there for privacy and relaxation.
