“Great Value”

Several reviews have mentioned that the first floor apartments are better, and I agree. There is an extra fee of £3 per night for an upper apartment. This is shown on the tariff in Reception at El Guarapo, but I don't think this option is available when booking online or through an agent, they tend to just say there's 'no guarantee' of an upper apartment. Depending on their bookings, it may be possible to change to an upper floor.

From the first floor perspective, El Guarapo was a brilliant place to stay, great value for money, cleanliness was not an issue at all, the cleaning was frequent and thorough, with lots of towel changes which is unusual. I must have been in a modernised apartment because the decor and fittings were up to date and in good condition. Our deal also included beach towels, a big bowl of fresh fruit and water on arrival, and tv and wifi. The neighbourhood outside the complex is also lovely, and it's just a few minutes to the sea and the cliffside walkways. I would go back!

Room Tip: Pay the extra £3 per night for an upper apartment.

“Good but could be so much better.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We arrived early evening on a day that we knew that reception would be closed and had no problem finding our room, Antonio gave us our room number and pointed us in the right direction. Although we knew reception would be closed we did find this a disappointing start to our stay.
The apartment was clean and had a microwave, kettle, toaster, two hotplates, fridge freezer and enough crockery, cutlery and pots and pans.
We had one bedroom with single beds. The mattresses were covered with a plastic backed sheet which proved to be most uncomfortable. Everytime one of us turned over in bed the noise from the sheet woke the other one up. The pillows felt like they had been washed and the filling had broken up. I can honestly say we have never appreciated our own bed and pillows as when we arrived home!
The complex was very quiet which suited us as we were there for a rest but if you are looking for entertainment you will have to leave the apartment to find it.
We did not see any cockroaches or ants but it was January, maybe different in the summer. There are a few cats wandering about but they didn't bother us, they just walked past our patio and had a look in but never entered the apartment, if we had encouraged them we might have had them for the week!
We had paid extra money for a "superior" apartment but did not know what we were going to get for our money. There was nothing extra in the room when we arrived so the next day we asked at reception and were told we had a renovated apartment, we could have free tv ( Sky news, Sky sports news, BBC world news and Films 4 men?!) free wifi and free pool towels. We had not taken anything with us to use the wifi so can't comment on how good that was. The pool towels never materialised despite asking for them again on day 3.
The apartment was cleaned every other day and towels changed in the middle of the week.
We paid to use the safe but because reception was closed when we arrived and when we left we had to return the key the night before to get back our deposit, we only had the use of the safe for five nights.
We didn't eat in the restaurant but there was always a few people in there on the nights it was open. There are plenty of places to eat in Costa Teguise at prices to suit everyone and we didn't have a bad meal all week.

Best bits about El Guarapo
Clean, quiet, pleasant staff

Worst bits about El Guarapo
Uncomfortable beds, short reception opening hours

In conclusion, for the price we paid El Guarapo was probably good value and as the saying goes " you get what you pay for" but it could be so much better. Take the plastic off the beds, have someone to greet the guests on arrival, there are not that many guests arriving each day it's only a small block of apartments and is one small bath towel and hand towel per person really enough every four days?

“Ideal place to stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We were fortunate enough to be in an upstairs room. This is the third time we have stayed here and still difficult to fault. Yes apartments are tired but I think they are improving them all the time. Antonio never stops, painting, keeping pool up to standard (very cold though), changing furtniture and replacing bulbs, he is a lovely man. Antonio in the restaurant is very nice too and his food is wonderful but we only had one meal there this time. The cleaners are very helpful as is Hannah on reception. She was wonderful and has a good sense of humour, she gets all the complaints and deals with them well, like everyone it is how she is approached.
Going back again soon.

Room Tip: Just an upstairs room is best. You can pay for this at a slightly higher rate, you are then guarant...

“clean, basic and in a fantastic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

These apartments, although basic, are fantastically positioned for exploring the island and the family resort of Costa Teguise, they are only a leisurly 10minute walk away from the centre of the resort where there are many bars and restaurants some of which you MUST go to. Read some of my other reviews to know which ones. The apartment block itself is relatively small, the pool is cleaned daily and although cold is lovely in the summer nights to jump into as it gets a little warm in the day (sarcasm). There are newly fitted gates and barriers as well making the pool area a little safer than before. A very shallow are at one side of the pool means you can leave your kids to play knowing they will be safe (provided they don't go further in that they know they can). The bar, ran by Antonio is fantastic, beer on tap, and if he runs out there are always cold cans along with all other types of beverages, cold bottles of coke, sprite etc... The food is FANTASTIC, my fiancee and brother shared a lamb shoulder between them, which was charged at around 17euros in total, which came out with an accompanant of vegetables and potatoes with gravy, I thought it was a whole Sheep!!! It was huge. The breakfasts are great and you can add or remove items as you prefer. Also if it isn't on the menu, just ask...he will endevour to cook whatever you desire. The bar is open from 9am - 3pm and then 7pm-10pm (although he will stay later if theres custom to do so). The rooms are comfortable with everything YOU NEED, extra's can be added to your stay including internet, fruit and water on arrival, when purchasing online it is what is called a superior room. The reception is not 24hours so make a phone call to enquire about what room your in before you get there, especially if your arriving before 9am or after 7pm or around 2-4pm as reception is shut between these times. If you arrive and reception is shut but the bar is open, ask Antonio, he will know what number apartment you are in, alternitavely there is a phone number to ring on the wall near reception, but it would cost less to ring from England. We ring up the day before we go to find out, so we don't have to hang about. I think thats about it...so just ENJOY !!!!

Room Tip: ground floor suits elderly as the stairs can be quite steep with cases. Apart from that, they all g...

“Not as good, could do better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This was our second visit and we knew what to expect with regards the apartments, they are very basic and in places tired. However we had asked if it was possible this time to have a first floor apartment, as last year we did have visits from cochroaches as we were on the ground floor. Hana on reception is pleasant enough, but enjoys speaking German (her own words) and one wonders if this reflects the fact that all the groundfloor apartments are rented to English or Spanis. But no, we got another groundfloor apartment, and again we had a visit or two, despite taking not leaving doors or windows open. there are many more cats on the complex and they appear to be losing the battle with the insect population.

They now only change linen evry 8 days and towels every 4, which is possibly ok for towels, but linen!! Why they should need to reduce changing is a puzzle as they were full, which presumably means that cash flow should be good.

The kitchen was even less equipped than last year, no kettle and only a wooden spoon for use.

Bed sheets really needed throwing away on our second week as they had more holes than a string vest, ok, maybe slightly harsh.

We knew of more than one apartment where the water heater failed, one on 2 occasions within days and one that needed a new hob. It does seem as though they are not spending cash unless they have to, sad, because it could be so much better if they just raied their game.

The saving grace is Antonio, who runs the cafe/bar. What great food, great prices, and a really nice and helpful person. I wonder if they know how valuable he is to them!!!

Yes it is not 3 0r 4 star, but a little thought and effort, and not a lot of money could improve things no end. They may also like to look at apartment allocation, just to ensure their is no bias.

Still enjoyted our time in Costa Tegiuse, we would go back to El Guarapo? the jury is still out
