My husband and I, aged 67/68, booked this hotel about a week before we went, for half board, for 10 nights, from 28th January to 7th February, as I felt I really needed to get away from the dark, damp, days we had been having. We were sorry that we had decided on 10 nights instead of just a week.
I did do a bit of research on it, but not as much as I normally do as it was a last minute decision to go away. When we arrived it looked very impressive, the receptionist was helpful, the room was spacious, clean with a very private balcony which got the sun most of the day but we really didn’t realise how far away it was from anything. We were looking for a relaxing holiday so the fact that it was outside the town we didn’t think would bother us but it did, as we like to go for walks in the evenings but there was no where too walk too. We weren’t anywhere near anything, up a hill, with no lighting on the roads. The reception area was always freezing cold so when I used to go down to the Wi Fi area to use my Net book, I needed to put on a cardigan and a jacket. It was just too cold to sit and listen to the piano player at night, which I would have loved to have done. The one good thing was at least our room was warm, even though everywhere else in the hotel was so cold. The food was not at all appetising and always cold, there was a micro wave in the restaurant but I would hate to think what it would have done to the food without putting a cover over it before putting it in it. I had my own tea bags with me so the only time I used the hot drinks machine was to get hot water to make a pot of tea. The tea pot dripped all over the table when you went to pour it but luckily another guest advised me to get one with a spout on it but there were very few of them. Also we took our own travel kettle with us, as we always do, so at least we didn’t have to pay extra for the use of a kettle. As even though it was a last minute booking we didn’t get it any cheaper and for the price we paid I would have thought we would have at least got the use of the fridge without having to pay for it but we managed well without it.
Most nights we had to queue for a table for the evening meal. It reminded me of when I had school dinners, when I was at school in England, but the school dinners I had were much more appetising than the dinners that were on offer in this hotel. The crockery was often not washed properly and a lot of it was chipped or cracked.
I think this hotel would be an ideal place if all you wanted to do was spend your entire holiday without leaving it, which I suppose a lot of people do, as it was a very big hotel, with lots of sun beds and 2 large swimming pools and a small Jacuzzi next to the swimming pools.
I find it hard to believe that this is a 4 star hotel as we have been going abroad for more years than I care to remember and we have stayed in much better 2 and 3 star ones. We didn’t avail of the evening entertainment as it was too cold to sit and watch it, so we can’t comment on it. Also we have never been to a hotel where we have had to queue for any meals, perhaps someone could explain why this happened. I am sorry to say that we were greatly disappointed with this hotel and we won’t be going there again.
