“second time around and would go again”

My husband and I have just returned from Blancala on May 31st, after a two week stay. This was our second visit and we got a bargain as we were ready to go anytime. We had been two years previously and enjoyed it then, weather was even more perfect this time. lady in reception (I didn't catch her name) was always smiling and most helpful. She even phoned to arrange our return transfer for us as my mobile wouldn't accept the number. Jenny's restaurant was mobbed each night and we finally found out why! she has a 9.95 euro menu which includes bread, starter, main ,sweet and wine!!! also Bar 80 ( used to be danny's bar) is a smashing place for tapas and a pint of san miguel is 3 e. Delaney's irish bar is at the end of the commercial centro where all the others are, but beware, he charges 4.75e for a pint of amstel. a rip off price. further along the main road where blancala is situated, there is a great Chinese restaurant called Zhung How, reasonably priced too! Only niggle with the apartment is it's a bit dated. Towels changed every 4 days and bedding every 7 days. Beds are made every day though there is no actual cleaning done. you also have to take your own rubbish to the large containers, but they are all over Menorca so that's a normal thing. We loved it but the best thing was the view.

Room Tip: rooms 211 and 212 have a view to die for,see above

“Cheap and Unchearful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2010

Firstly we didn't pay a lot for our stay here so we didn't expect the ritz however no matter how much we paid, we expected to get the services advertised.

We travelled as part of a group of 9, 4 adults and 5 children ranging from 1 - 11 yrs, we travelled on 2nd October so we knew things would be quiet but there is quiet and dead and we got dead!!

We arrived at the hotel and the man in reception was friendly enough he told us we were the last guests to stay at the complex for the season, but that there was another couple who were due to leave in a day or 2 and after that we would have the place to ourselves, we asked about the half board option available but were told that the bar/restuarant had been closed for maintenance due to it being the end of the season, so that was out of the question, but that if we wanted food or drinks (what do you mean IF of course we were going to want food and drink we were on holiday) we could use the bar at the next pool, we assumed the next bar at our next pool as there are 2 here, in acutal fact that was a shed and was closed also he meant the next apartment block along - great or what, he told us it would be like having a villa wel I'm sorry if we had wanted to stay at a villa we would have booked on, and in a villa we would have had somewhere to wash our clothes, a cooker and at the very least a kettle there was none of the above available to us I find this totally unacceptable as we couldn't very well use the restuarant as it was closed for maintenance - well we didn't see any maintenance in all our time here.

The children couldn't use the mini golf as the reception was only open for 2 hours per day, the park was rubbish and couldn't be called a park really.

The pool was not cleaned once during our whole stay on day two they came and took the pool and football tables away, they wrapped all the lights up in bin liners and took all the patio funiture in we felt like we were in the way basically. Our children had fishing nets and used them to strain the crap out of the pool before the ventured in it after not seeing anyone near it after 3 days I stopped them from going in. Whilst on the subject of cleanliness our apartment was not cleaned once during our whole stay we were given a clean towel and a clean sheet once between the 5 of us!!! There was a brush which started out it's life at about 4ft long but had shrunk an withered with age and was about 2 ft by the time I inherited it I didn't have a dustpan so everyday I swept out our apartment and put it in a pile on the landing, the night before we left it was a nice big pile and eventually someone noticed it and moved it, we had to ask for some toilet rolls as the supermarket didn't have any!!!!

We were also disapointed at what was not stocked at the supermarkets it's a good job we had hired cars otherwise we would have gone crazy being stuck there all week, however we were very disapointed with all of the attactions in Menorca this year we have been the same week before and all the waterparks bars and resturants etc have been open, this year however there was nothing, our children were bored stiff.

I've said no to the question below about having a swimming pool and a restuarant as at the time we stayed they weren't available to use so you could say they didn't have one!!

I love Menorca and won't be put off by these apartments, and had the services advertised been available we would have had a most enjoyable stay, had the water slides and shopping area's been open for business too we would have enjoyed the area too the area was lovely and clean and couldn't be faulted it's just a shame we had to travel out to Cala Bosh and Cala Forcat for things to do (even if they were limited) we just won't stay here again.

“Clean and quiet bargain.”

Check-in was friendly and quick, We were left to ourselves to find our room, which we did without too much trouble. It had a small patio overlooking one of the pools and the ocean. Adequate facilities including small reasonably equipped kitchen. The rooms are a bit tired, but perfectly clean.
I had worried that as we only had windows to one side it might get a bit hot, but the ceiling fan in the bedroom, and floor fans did the job well. Might get a bit hot in July/August however.
Two pools that were busy but not overcrowded. We never had a problem getting a sun lounger. The pools were again very clean and inviting. Fantastic views over the terrace to the sea.
The bar/restaurant was reasonable and the food good. Service was very good and friendly. If you need to use their WiFi connection this is where you will likely do it as it does not extend to the rooms.
Short walk to nice beaches in either direction. A few grocery and general goods shops close by, but if you have a car it's worth going further afield to get better prices.

We really enjoyed ourselves, and would go back again.

“relaxing stay”

We wanted a last minute relaxing holiday for 4 nights Blancala was ideal.

Good points.
friendly staff
location great sea views
spotless apartments
access to the sea via steps off cliff just ouside pool
bus stop 100 yards from hotel. (just 1.45 euro to Cuitidella well worth visiting, be aware most shops do close in the afternoon due to siesta!)
a strip of restaurants and supermarkets down the road. Danny's bar and Jenny's were very good.

Bad points

pool was a little dirty, we did bring this to receptions attention. No lifeguard but Blancala are small family run apartments.
Not much to do in the evenings, no entertainment at blancala we went to the strip down the road and ate in different restaurants every night.

Also wouldn't recommend using the sumermarket 50 yards from hotel he is more expensive than others. Would recommend Julies on the strip down the road.

Other than that Cala Blanca is a very pleasant place. There is a great restaurant/pub just off cala beach with a free use of their pool with a great slide, very relaxing after a day at the beach. We hired a pedalo boat with a slide 10 euros for an hour - great fun.

“RELAXING,RELAXING,RELAXING”

Decided this year to take a more leisurely break and went off to Menorca. Blancala Apartments in Cala Blanca. Firstly the receptionist was friendly and very helpful and onced booked in we were told where our room was. Ground floor with a little sitting area and a view over the sea- perfect. The room itself wasnt the most modern but it was clean and tidy. Bedroom had 2 single beds, storage space and was ideal, (bedding changed mid week) the sitting room/dining room had 2 settees and a coffee table plus a dining table and chairs. 2 ringed cooker and a toaster, microwave and the usual pots and pans. Towels changed mid week.
There are 2 swimming pools which are well maintained.Sun beds and some parasols.
On the second last evening of our stay, the electrics blew in the apartment and we were given another room for the evening without any question. Next moring by 10am we were back in our original room and the repair carried out. The staff are warm and friendly.
There isnt a lot to do in Calablanca but there are plenty of eating places and the bus service is pretty good and reasonably priced,so touring around isnt a problem.
If you are looking for somewhere to go and relax then I would recommend Blancala
'Jennys' is a good place to eat and reasonably priced
