We unfortunately started our holiday with a 13 hour flight delay due to Greek Strikes. The Thompson flight was poor as usual, old planes and usual cramped leg space. Kos airport is very small and quite disorganised at best and extremely busy both on arrivals and worse on return trip, excessively busy and very little facilities in departure lounge, one tip don't use the airport toilets unless absolutely desperate, it smells foul and not pleasant.
The Hotel on arrival looks nice, check in is efficient and luggage brought by the porters is prompt. Room is ok, fairly sized and bathroom is an ok size again, but a little on the small size. Room furnishings are old and can be tatty looking. Rooms and balcony could do with being refurbished overall. Communal areas of the hotel are nice and you can't fault the selection of pools, even though I must state are all ice cold and salt water. Also no drinks service around the pool, even at the main top pool which is where the bar is. If you need a drink it's a treck to the bar. PLEASE NOTE this hotel is directly below the flight path and is very noisy, aircraft being less than 200 feet when going over the hotel. The flights are very busy on mainly Wednesday and Saturday, be warned!! Plenty of sunbeds available but we did travel in October and resort was very quiet. You do have towels available at the hotel for the sunbeds but you have to place with reception a 20 Euro deposit for each towel, which is returned at the end of your holiday when you hand back the final towels, towels can be exchanged each day for clean ones.
The food is typical all inclusive, breakfast is best, impressive selection of various food from all types of bread to cereal, yoghurts, continental and full English. Lunch is ok but is a very similar selection to dinner, which overall was a bit bland and limited in selection. The Italian restaurant served a small selection of dried Pizza, but the fresh pasta the chef makes while you wait is nice, but again the main dishes are buffet and not particularly Italian in origins. The Asian restaurant is the best for something a little nicer, but all in all typical all inclusive food, limited and luke warm. Take note Italian and Asian must be booked the day before by 6pm if you want to go there for dinner. Also Greek and Fish restaurant but they do lunch only and again must be booked in the same way.
Entertainment well, we didn't go to the evening shows as they are based in an ampitheatre, which we read and were advised by other guests at the hotel stank of sewerage. There is a rather enthuiastic animation team, but they don't bother you. When they play games or do the exercise class it is load, but this is based at only one of the pools below the pool bar pool. However if you like aqua aerobics, yoga or a workout about 4 on holiday, then the girl was very good. The Lobby singer was not good, she really looked miserable and realy didn't look like she wanted to entertain in any way, shape or form.
Hotel staff are very good and cannot be faulted in any way, majority of them all full of smiles.
The location of the hotel is remote and the beach is not great, if you like to go for walks this is not the hotel for you. This is a hotel based place unless you brave hiring a car or get out in a taxi or organised trip.
Overall the hotel could be very nice, rather than just nice currently. It has just been acquired by the Atlantica chain which are generally very nice. Hopefully while they are closed over the winter season some issues such as redecoration, improvement in food, furnishings in rooms and general other tweeks to make this a 4 to 5 star resort will be made.
Flight home again was delayed but this came down again to the issues in Greece and go slows by Greek air traffic control, but again typical not good Thomson flight.
Facilities not used were the kids club, French restaurant(not open at time of visit), gym and Spa. There not made assumptions about these facilities.
This hotel is not what it deems to be a 5 star, Thomson also state this as 5 star. I would say fairly a 3 to 4 star. It's just a few things that let it down, no free towel use for the pool unless you pay deposit, no tea or coffee making facilities in rooms, no pool service for drinks, the food lets it down, and other niggly things. itI's all things that can be dealt with but whether this is done will remain to be seen.
Hope this review helps if you a looking at booking a trip here.
