“What a wonderful experience”

absolutely wonderful hotel, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation is first class and very pretty. Quite unique with block which look like villas and so many swimming pools, it feels like you have your own individual pool. There are various restaurant choices all included in your all inclusive stay, the main buffet restaurant is not like your usual buffet, it is very well laid out and spotless, they are constanting putting out new food and maintaining the beautiful layout of the food. We also went to the Italian and Taverna restaurants which were both really lovely. Would recommend this holiday for couples and those wishing to escape from the world for a week or two. The surrounding area is nice but Kardamena is bit rough so not really worth going into.

“Flight Path Hell”

If you like all inclusive package holidays where you like to stay on the resort then maybe this would be an excellent place for you.

A large hotel, designed in the style of a Mediterranean village. low-rise villas with terracotta roofs have been built around the 13 salt water swimming pools. Some of the villas face the pools, others have fantastic sea views of the ocean and the volcanic island of Nissyros.

The food options are of course what you expect for an AI resort - luke warm buffet, however this hotel did have a number of options - other than the main buffet restaurant, you’ve got the choice of a fish restaurant, a Greek taverna, an Asian and an Italian eatery at various times of the day. Do check though because some only serve lunch.

There are only 3 bars in the whole hotel, the pool, the lounge and the beach - which isn't enough compared to the size of the complex.

Considering how remote the hotel is, other than the Greek Night - entertainment is poor with a lounge singer belting out ballad after ballad to a backing track, looking like she wanted to be somewhere else. After half an hour most of the guests did too.

There is an animation team which operates outside in the ampitheatre - the team were enthusiastic but just mimed to a backing track, apart from one performance they were awful. The area also stank of sewerage.

The private beach was pretty good, plenty of sun-beds, however this hotel is directly below the flight path and is very noisy, aircraft fly so low you can make out every detail, not the most relaxing experience while you sunbathe, unless of course you are a plane spotter!

We flew with Thomson and had problem after problem - a 2 hour delay sitting on the plane like caged animals, with no water offered. They are so disorganised, the rep at the hotel was never around and turned up late when we requested to see her.

We hadn't been on a package holiday before and wont do it again, it's just not the type of holiday we like. But if this is what you like I am sure Porto Bello Royal is a good example of what a All Inclusive has to offer.

“Nice Hotel.”

We stayed here for ten days in October. The hotel was well below capacity due to the time of year but everything was still available. Good beach and pool bars with a nice selection of cocktails, spirits and coffee available. We were lucky to have some really good weather considering the time of year, unfortunately though the many lovely pools were too cold to use except for a brief dip. The theatre was a big letdown, painted concrete steps and adjacent to the sewerage plant. We didn't go to the evening shows because of this. Our evenings were in the very nice lobby bar where we were entertained by the female singer who created a pleasant relaxing atmosphere.

There was a good selection of food available in all the restaurants but what a shame that it was usually only luke warm. Our favourite was the Italian where you could have freshly prepared pasta dishes made to your liking and hot too. The Greek and Fish restaurant was open at lunch times and this made a pleasant change to using the main one.

I found all the staff in the bars and restaurants very polite, pleasant and always helpful. Overall this was a relaxing value for money holiday.

“Had a great time. Entertainment atmosphere could be improved on a rainy day. Would definitely return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

We had a fabulous holiday. Staff were great. Especially dining room and bar in hotel.
Our room. Good. Had a mini bar with complimentary drinks. Missed tea & coffee facilities. Bath was the only pain. Couldn't reach round the bath screen to put in plug. No bath mat. This could be a big problem for some people.
Food good. Loads of choice. Staff always clearing.
Pool bar staff could smile a bit more but had to deal with wasps a lot.
Entertainment is my main grumble. We had a singer that never smiled always unapproachable and clearly not enjoying her job. We had one rainy day and the lounge area was full, nice, people chatting, drinking. But could have had some quiz or music would have been nice also nothing for the children.
Would definitely return. But some issues need to be looked at.

“Nice place but remote”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We unfortunately started our holiday with a 13 hour flight delay due to Greek Strikes. The Thompson flight was poor as usual, old planes and usual cramped leg space. Kos airport is very small and quite disorganised at best and extremely busy both on arrivals and worse on return trip, excessively busy and very little facilities in departure lounge, one tip don't use the airport toilets unless absolutely desperate, it smells foul and not pleasant.
The Hotel on arrival looks nice, check in is efficient and luggage brought by the porters is prompt. Room is ok, fairly sized and bathroom is an ok size again, but a little on the small size. Room furnishings are old and can be tatty looking. Rooms and balcony could do with being refurbished overall. Communal areas of the hotel are nice and you can't fault the selection of pools, even though I must state are all ice cold and salt water. Also no drinks service around the pool, even at the main top pool which is where the bar is. If you need a drink it's a treck to the bar. PLEASE NOTE this hotel is directly below the flight path and is very noisy, aircraft being less than 200 feet when going over the hotel. The flights are very busy on mainly Wednesday and Saturday, be warned!! Plenty of sunbeds available but we did travel in October and resort was very quiet. You do have towels available at the hotel for the sunbeds but you have to place with reception a 20 Euro deposit for each towel, which is returned at the end of your holiday when you hand back the final towels, towels can be exchanged each day for clean ones.
The food is typical all inclusive, breakfast is best, impressive selection of various food from all types of bread to cereal, yoghurts, continental and full English. Lunch is ok but is a very similar selection to dinner, which overall was a bit bland and limited in selection. The Italian restaurant served a small selection of dried Pizza, but the fresh pasta the chef makes while you wait is nice, but again the main dishes are buffet and not particularly Italian in origins. The Asian restaurant is the best for something a little nicer, but all in all typical all inclusive food, limited and luke warm. Take note Italian and Asian must be booked the day before by 6pm if you want to go there for dinner. Also Greek and Fish restaurant but they do lunch only and again must be booked in the same way.
Entertainment well, we didn't go to the evening shows as they are based in an ampitheatre, which we read and were advised by other guests at the hotel stank of sewerage. There is a rather enthuiastic animation team, but they don't bother you. When they play games or do the exercise class it is load, but this is based at only one of the pools below the pool bar pool. However if you like aqua aerobics, yoga or a workout about 4 on holiday, then the girl was very good. The Lobby singer was not good, she really looked miserable and realy didn't look like she wanted to entertain in any way, shape or form.
Hotel staff are very good and cannot be faulted in any way, majority of them all full of smiles.
The location of the hotel is remote and the beach is not great, if you like to go for walks this is not the hotel for you. This is a hotel based place unless you brave hiring a car or get out in a taxi or organised trip.
Overall the hotel could be very nice, rather than just nice currently. It has just been acquired by the Atlantica chain which are generally very nice. Hopefully while they are closed over the winter season some issues such as redecoration, improvement in food, furnishings in rooms and general other tweeks to make this a 4 to 5 star resort will be made.
Flight home again was delayed but this came down again to the issues in Greece and go slows by Greek air traffic control, but again typical not good Thomson flight.
Facilities not used were the kids club, French restaurant(not open at time of visit), gym and Spa. There not made assumptions about these facilities.
This hotel is not what it deems to be a 5 star, Thomson also state this as 5 star. I would say fairly a 3 to 4 star. It's just a few things that let it down, no free towel use for the pool unless you pay deposit, no tea or coffee making facilities in rooms, no pool service for drinks, the food lets it down, and other niggly things. itI's all things that can be dealt with but whether this is done will remain to be seen.
Hope this review helps if you a looking at booking a trip here.

Room Tip: Definately go for sea view at minimum.
