“Excellent Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2009

We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel and had a great time. The service was outstanding, friendly and welcoming as well as very helpful. They enabled us to spend a day in Lecce using trains and the hotels shuttle bus which was great fun and saved a hairy drive. We were especially grateful for the local knowledge in buying the train ticket which was not as straight forward as we'd expected.
The pool and restaurant were of a very high standard and although the decor and design of the room was fairly standard the balcony was great and the room was well kept and equipped.

“A Hidden Jewell”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2009

I have had the oportunity to have stayed here four times this year from deepest January until steaming May and I think that the company I work for has truly descovered a hidden jewell.
OK so first impressions (in the dark) in January were a little discoloured as there was a distinct lack of atmosphere, and the only guests were my colleagues! But hey, this is the same wherever you go in the region, however I found the staff more than helpful and the quality of service from the management to the cleaners was first class, and I quickly realised that this would develope in subsequent visits.
The air conditioned rooms are very spacious, clean and tidy with balconies.
Take time out to explore the grounds - they are massive with something for everyone including manicured lawns, terraces, a range of water features, large and small pools, tennis and a small soccer pitch - and it will become apparent why this hotel is used extensively for well to do weddings and parties, but the service does not alter whoever you are and whatever the question.
There is varied cuisine to be had both in the resturaunt and around the various pool bars-just ask if you fancy something else.
My subsequent visits have seen the hotel really blossom along with the countryside, and in reply to those who complain that "nothing is in English"...why don't you take time out to learn a little Italian? Afterall not everyone speaks Italian in my neck of the woods! You will soon find that a bit of effort goes a long way. I have found the staff to have a real professional approach with humour in a range of languages.
The wine selection is excellent (please try the Selvarossa even at 15 euros a pop) and the reaturaunt staff are more than competant to deal with most questions.
If you are fortunate to stay while they are hosting a wedding then boy, will you find out how to really push the boat out from the preparation to the finish.
You do need a car though, and why not as it really does push you out there to explore the Puglie region (try to get to Otranto and Lecce)

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!!

“superb masseria with a friendly smile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2009

2nd time we stayed at the Tenuta Moreno (2004, and now). The food is delicious and authentic, the staff are very child friendly, and frankly speaking the only hotel in the world (having been to many...) where the hotel manager is visibly present every (!) day, greeting guests personally every day. The quiet pool is discrete, sheltered and offer privacy, the main pool is a children's best dream, with plenty of deck chairs, shadowy places that still offer a good overview of the pool. The rooms are very spacious. We took the family room for 4. All rooms have a private terrace as well. There is also a playing area for children, and the whole place is well-kept and maintained. The rastaurant has a large garden with orange trees, so kids can play while parents enjoy their meal. A definite recommendation, I have already sent many friends there !

“Comfortable for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2009

My husband and I were bicycling around Puglia and chose the Grand Hotel Tenuta Moreno because of its location -- it was the right distance between our prior night in Savelletri and our next stop in Lecce. It is in the middle of nowhere so to speak, although I can see why it is used for conventions and weddings -- it's right off the highway and has a lot of facilities. It is several miles outside Mesagne, which by the way has a very lovely central square and beautiful cathedral.

We were initially surprised when we arrived -- a sprawling property and on a Sunday afternoon there were multiple parties going on at once. However, we were greeted nicely (which is saying something, since we arrive on bicycle!), a bellboy went out of his way to help us put the bikes in a safe storage area, and the front desk staff were very pleasant. She even said that once we had cleaned up, she would take us to the bar for a complimentary drink.

The hotel is furnished attractively in the lobbies and hallways; our room (deluxe?) was very large (clearly appropriate for a family) and had a little private terrace, and very clean (tile floor, nice bathroom) but it's pretty sterile -- desk, beds, chair -- nothing upholstered and the bedspreads, curtains etc were not very attractive.

Still, when we did clean up and returned to the front desk, a woman took us on a tour of the property, explained why there were so many functions, and promised it would be quieter in the evening. She took us to the bar at the pool and we enjoyed a very lovely area and great drink. Later that evening, we ate in the hotel restaurant and found it more than satisfactory. It's an attractive room, although the lighting is too bright, and we had very good service and a very tasty meal. Maybe not big on "atmosphere", but it was very nice. Breakfast the next morning was an enormous buffet and we found that platters were filled or replaced very promptly. (Coffee service was odd though -- we had to chase down a waitress to order what we wanted and she never came back.)

All in all, it was a comfortable night and convenient for us. However, given all the other interesting, small, personal hotels we used during the rest of the trip, I would not choose the Grant Hotel except if the location was convenient. To my surprise, it seemed that some guests were staying for multiple nights or a whole week -- there are MUCH more atmostpheric places to stay in the lovely towns of Ostuni, Martina Franca, Alberobello or Lecce. It's not a bad place, just not very memorable and more for tour groups.

“que bella”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2009

Not sure what the other reviews that claim unfriendly staff are about. I spent 10 days here and had no problems. The staff is as friendly as I like staff to be. They're not fawning and obsequious, but will serve you well. They cater to your needs, but probably not to whims. If it can be done, they'll do it for you. The grounds are simply spectacular and the location is in the boonies a bit. We had a car, so we found it peaceful and quiet. The food was very good and the wait staff well trained. The room we had was comfortable and very clean, although the bed was a bit hard for my taste.

My only down side was that I got there before the pool was open. They didn't fill it until two days before I left. I did get to use it, though, and it is a beautiful pool with shaded areas and sunny spots. The only thing I could have asked for was more time. I love this hotel and would definitely go again.
