“Nice Place, Great Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

This is a nice, VERY clean resort!

If food is your thing, this is the place to go. I thought some nights there were too many courses and it took too long, but again if you like food, you will like this place.
Breakfast & Lunch options were beyond expected and always very good.

Beach are was ok, shore is rocky. Pools were all great and the bartenders even better!

Nightly entertainment was for an older crowd. I was with a group of 8 in their early 30's, we thought the entertainment was a little on the lame side. Some of the shows were really good, very talented people, but there was nothing going on later in the night.

All the workers were helpful and fun.

“EDR by far the best holiday, ignore the negative reviews”

Me and my partner have just returned having spent 2 weeks at EDR, I have only positive things to say about this resort purely because it was like heaven from the moment we arrived, as other positive (and accurate reviews) the best at this resort is the staff, the food, restaurants, drinks and so on, the staff go out of there way to cater for you and this holiday is pure relaxation. Ignore all negative reviews some people will moan about anything they can and some comments are just inaccurate, to say the food is terrible is an insult to the resort and the staff. You will not be disapointed and we will def return

“Great Place for Destination Wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I have a hard time understanding some of these reviews I'm reading - must just be really picky people who like to complain. We were there from Feb. 2-6 2012 for our daughter's destination wedding. There were 66 people there for the occasion and everyone had a wonderful time - the workers there are so willing to make your stay a memorable one - they go above and beyond to please you. We never felt obligated to tip, but there were a few waiters who were so outstanding that we did anyhow. We tried out every restaurant while we were there and were never disappointed - food was great, presentation was beautiful, and we only had to wait at one restaurant - D'Italia - wait was about 1 1/2 hours, but we were able to sit in the upstairs bar. Other than that we got in pretty quickly. At Jo Jo's the first night they didn't have shrimp on their menu - but a short time later the waiter (Julio) brought out some shrimp - the same thing with a request for Flan for dessert - didn't have, but showed up with some a short time later. We went back another night and said we were just going to order dessert - pretty soon the waiter came out with a tray featuring every dessert they had on their menu - we ate it all! Our daughter's wedding was perfect - so very well organized and beautiful for everyone - I would highly recommend it as a wedding spot - so much less stress than a normal wedding - and so much fun for all the guests. Anytime we needed a shuttle/golf cart we just had to call for one and it would be there shortly. Absolutely no complaints about anything and would love to go back in the future. They are always cleaning the resort - cutting off the dead branches, sweeping the sand off the beach beds, clearing out the seaweed off the beach, etc. I wouldn't pay a whole lot of attention to the nay-sayers - we had a blast! A beautiful resort and a wonderful time!

“AMAZING RESORT!!!”

We just got back from our Destination Wedding at EDR and it was AMAZING! Valeria was our wedding planner and Jim at Great Escape Travel handled our travel plans for all 67 of our guests. Everyone had a PHENOMENAL time and raved about the food, service, and resort in general. We had our reception at Tucanes Bar which was just redone and was the PERFECT FIT for all of our guests. We could not have asked for a better wedding and would go back each year to do it over again if we could! Javier @ Caribe Photo did our photography and also did a great job. I would HIGHLY recommend EDR to anyone considering a destination wedding. They didn't miss a beat with all of the details and everything turned out better than we could have expected. All of our guests are already planning to come back they loved it so much!

Room Tip: We did a swim up jacuzzi, but honestly I wouldn't spend the extra money- just get the cheapest g...

“El Dorado Royale destination”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We just returned from Cancun, traveling with friends for their sons wedding. El Dorado Royale was the destination wedding location. It was definately a 5 Star resort, all inclusive. The restaurants were great, we ate at Cocotal which was wonderful. The lobster lasanga was great. Jo Jo's has wonderful conch and corn chowder. The entertainment was really good, better than we've had at a few other resorts. I did the yoga class every morning and it was wonderful along with the gym which was very nice. Our room was very clean and we had a jacuzzi in the room which we did not use and a hammock on the patio which we enjoyed.
The beach was fine, smaller than some places we've stayed and they had plenty of places to relax in the shade with little cabanas and thatch covered lounges. The weather was pretty windy so the ocean was quite rough. They have large barriers in the water that look like whales but this is to control the beach erosion. If they didn't have these there would probably be no beach.
The only drawback we had with this resort was it was so far away from Cancun or Playa del Carma that we pretty much just stayed on the resort. Shuttles were available but only ran certain days and we missed those or take a taxi and that was $35.00 one way so could be expensive if you wanted to go off the resort several times. I like being a little closer to a town or village so we can explore and shop. If your main goal is to just relax and unwind and not go off a resort once your there this place would fit all your needs and more. Seven restaurants and even more bars, everyone was extremely friendly and made you feel very welcome.

Room Tip: We stayed in the garden view jacuzzi suite rooms and they were just fine. We were seldom in the roo...
