This was our third annual January trip to Hidden Beach, and it just keeps getting better. There was a noticeable upgrade in the quality and presentation of the food this year. It was good in the past, but now it's truly excellent. The top shelf booze never quits flowing, and Esperanza has an amazing ability to remember what each guest likes at various times of the day. Like a Mayan angel of mercy, she appears at your elbow with the drink you were about to order. This year we made the mistake of booking from Wed. to Wed., and so missed the nude catamaran cruise, which is a hoot.
The rooms are extremely comfortable. If you have a "swim up" room be SURE to take a room key with you when you leave the room, and leave the security latch off on the front door as the sliding glass doors lock automatically. Last year, security had to come and remove the front door to get us back in the room after we made that mistake.
We only went over to the neighboring El Dorado Suites for one lunch. Just too much trouble getting dressed.
We had the occasion to use the on-site medical clinic for a minor eye irritation problem. Prompt, professional care and the prescribed medicine was delivered to our room in less than an hour.

We found that housekeeping was a little uneven this year...particularly the time of day that they serviced the room. Several days they didn't get to the room 'til very late in the afternoon, when we were looking to take a little siesta before dinner. If you want your room cleaned in the morning, ask the concierge and they'll make it happen.
This year we had to arrange our own transfer back to the airport. Lomas Travel wanted US$125 for the one way trip. The bellman called a regular taxi which got us safely and comfortably to the airport in less than half the time of the Lomas van for 800 Pesos (about US$75). Speaking of Pesos, in preparation for this trip I ordered $1000 worth of Pesos from Travelex online, and the currency was delivered to my door at home at a better exchange rate than you'll get at the airport. While US Dollars are widely accepted in the Rivera Maya, we found that prices in Pesos were more favorable, and tips in Pesos don't have to be taken to the bank for conversion by the recipient.
Room Tip: We like the swim up rooms on the ground floor. If possible, ask for a room in the "12" bu...
