We are a happily married couple who could best be described as open-minded, non-judgmental naturists. We enjoyed a total of 5 weeks in Temptation last year, so decided to throw a bit (lot) more money at it and try Desire. Here's how it was.......
We got off to a bad start, long flight, arrived in a deluge, Cancun was flooded, waited an hour for the private transfer (Lomas travel) due to the rain. The reception area was uninspiring, and I has to cart my own luggage inside! After check-in we were told we would have our "proper room" the next day. Alarm bells!! We were than shown to the smallest room I have EVER stayed in, TV didn't work, one small drawer space, teeny shower etc etc. After some foot stamping they showed us the room we would get the next day (it's not like they didn't know when we were arriving) and offered us a free couples massage. By then we were too tired to argue so stayed in said rubbish room. Not happy.
The next day the sun came out, we were happily encamped in our super duper room and smiling again!
So, things to know........
Garden view room was perfect. Quiet, comfortable, spacious. Bathroom roomy with plenty of towels, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, body lotion, lots of hot water at all times. And the "Adult" channels on TV the same as at Temptation.
Pool area was run by Daniel who allocated you loungers, usually in a different place every day, only he knows how the system works! But we always got a bed and a brolly so no arguments there. Beds were super comfy, with thick mattresses, toweling covers, towels and pillows, perfect for the afternoon siesta!
Pool was small, with no swim up bar, but a nice temperature. A little too deep for me (I'm 5'2") to stand and hold a drink and chat, so it wasn't a very sociable pool, people tended to stick to their own beds, in fact it was very quiet round the pool during the day, unlike Temptation where the party started around 10am, and this surprised me.
Likewise with the entertainment during the day. The 3 girls, Vanessa, Raluka and Paula were lovely sociable young things who always had a smile and a hug for you, but the games they organised always seemed a bit tame (especially for this kind of resort) and over in a jiffy. I actually got rather bored in the day by week 2. But we won lots of hats!
The beach area was a bit windy the first week we were there, so didn't really venture down there much. The sand is beautiful, and there appeared to be plenty of beds and loungers, but unless you were on one of the cabanas there was no shade, no umbrellas or anything, and I can imagine this is a problem in the heat of summer.
Food:
Breakfast was great. Hubby said his omelettes were the best he'd ever had, the only disappointment were the smoothies, which were mostly made with fruit flavoured yoghurt, rather than fruit (Temptation wins again).
Lunch was in the open air near the pool (bottoms required). Same almost every day, salad, fish, steak, chicken, fajitas, burgers and hot dogs cooked to order. Bread was very disappointing, couldn't make myself a decent sarnie! Again, got a bit bored by week 2.
Dinner was either in the buffet (did it once), the International or Asian. You only have to book if you want to do the Teppanyaki, but please do as this was the culinary highlight of the trip!
There was a choice of Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc for us white winos, and the Sauvignon was very good and flowed freely!
Menus in the restaurants were a little limited for those of us there for 2 weeks, but we never went hungry. Special mention to Javier who got the chef to cook me a plate of pasta off menu one night when I was struggling a bit.
When the sun was going down we tended to congregate around the lobby bar for excellent coffee, hot chocolate and Baileys and a chance to chat and laugh with fellow guests. Obviously a lot of other couples went up to the Jacuzzi lounge at this time of day. We did venture up there once or twice but there were far to many bodies in the tub for my liking. we also went up a couple of times later at night when it was quieter, but still quite educational!
The evenings were the most fun. Dress as sexy as you like! We liked to dress elegant sexy for dinner, then change to match the theme of the night (see the website for the latest themes). The early evening entertainment was pretty good, although a bit too early for our liking as we mostly missed the live bands because we were dining, would have been better starting a bit later. We did see the breakdancers (slated in a previous review) and loved them! (Brits think Diversity, they were awesome), but hated the "Flamenco Pop Opera" - think Spanish Funeral Music to slash your wrists too, what are they thinking?? We want to dance!
Our favourite night was the casino night, lots of people dressed up, gambling with "funny money" and generally cheating a lot (my hubby!!).
Then off to the disco! In sexy clothes, or costumes, or very little (managed to go out one night wearing only a feather boa and some body paint shorts - thanks Nick! Where else in the world can you do that??)
Dance floor was usually full, and barmen usually twiddling their thumbs, this resort is all about having fun, not getting leathered (unlike Temptation). The "sin room" was also educational!
We met some lovely couples here, some who are in "the lifestyle" and others like us who are not, but all were great fun and very respectful. I never felt uncomfortable or under pressure to do anything I didn't want to, and I had loads of fun!
One word of caution, while we were there they were offering, as in many other resorts we have stayed at, free scuba lessons in the pool, with a view to you going on a scuba diving trip. During the second week some fellow guests went on one of these trips, and the dive boat capsized and sank. Nobody was seriously hurt, but just remember health and safety abroad is not the same as at home. Do your own risk assessment!
Conclusion:
Did we have a good time? You better believe it!
Would we go back? Probably, but not right away.
Was it value for money? Well...... for the same price for 2 weeks here we had 5 weeks at Temptation last year. It's hard to compare the 2 as they are do different but both fun, but unless you are going for the "lifestyle" I find it hard to justify the extra money.
Oh and before I forget, on our last night we had a spectacular short lived storm. Best memory of our trip, dancing naked in the rain!! And nobody cared..... :)
Room Tip: Garden view rooms are fab, save some money, you can look at the ocean all day from your lounger!
