“Odd Couple”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed at Xanadu with some friends for a week. The property is modern and well presented. The apartment we stayed in was functional but not exceptional. Perfectly adequate for a week on the coast. Location is terrific at the quieter northern end of the Gold Coast. Easy access to good restaurants and shopping at Marina Mirage and good restaurants at Tedder Ave. The only draw back was the room configurations. Not really good for couples to share as one room has a king bed and ensuite and one room has a double and single bed. Fortunately there is a second bathroom with a toilet. The kitchen is spasely equiped but has the main necessities. Not for the gourmet cook. It is necessary to be selective as to the aparment chosen as some have bad layouts and poor views. If I return to the Gold Coast it will be on my accommodation list

Room Tip: Choose an apartment in the Eastern tower with the longe room facing the beach for the best configura...

“Pretty Good Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Stayed for 5 nights, week before Xmas 2011. Wotif special deal $185 per night for 2 bedroom self contained apartment. Requested high floor apartment. Apartment was on 19th floor southern tower with stunning beach views and two balconies so no complaints there. Check in was smooth but young lady could have been more friendly and welcoming. Customer service not a strong point with her. Apartment itself was better than we expected. Views were excellent we just liked to watch al the goings on around the neighbourhood. Huge with everything you need, clean enough, air conditioned, comfortable beds, nice and quite on the 19th floor, apartment was just starting to look a little worn around the edges. We were very happy though given the tariff we were paying and some of the mixed reviews we read here prior to booking. As other have said seems to be luck of the draw with what you get allocated. Facilities were excellent with our kids enjoying both the indoor and out door pools and spas, gym and sauna. Lift was super fast so no problem there. Even had a hit of tennis which was free(racquets and balls supplied), just had to book court at reception. Had mixed experience with reception staff, as said, young girl on check in was less than welcoming but then other lady next day when making enquiries about where to eat could not have been more helpful. ( Just a tip there try the South Port Surf Life saving Club about 100 metres walk north of the apartment complex - excellent meals at a reasonable price and really friendly service - ended up eating there 3 nights).
Location of apartment was excellent, easy walk to flagged (patrolled area) of beach, Tedder avenue shops and cafes, 7/11 convenience store on corner of block, 20 mins walk to heart of Surfers, public bus stops just out front. Another tip we didn't hire a car and went for the Surfside Airport shuttle and theme park shuttle and public bus option.Great value. Couldn't fault it, and it was excellent and always on time and saved some dollars on car hire and the hassle of driving. Would we go back to Xanadu? Probably yes given our experience, but always a bit worrying when you read reviews that the standard of apartment and level of customer service can be so hit and miss, so may not be as good next time! Pity they can't get a bit of consistency with both apartment standards and staff customer service skills so people can book with confidence

“Go somewhere else....”

Would not recommend this place. Very dirty - shower disgusting with hair, sand, grime in both showers from previous guests.. Windows were so dirty that we could not see out of them (despite it being a beauiful view). Bedding was disgusting and had to go through several blankets to find one clean enough to sleep under. The staff member that we dealt with on arrival was very rude and unhelpful. Requested a room on one of the higher floors at time of booking but only got allocated floor 6. Also dishwasher didn't drain at all until we had cleaned out the filter and kitchen exhaust fan did not work. Positives were both pools are lovely, it was a spacious unit and close proximity to the beach. We stayed for 7 nights and would have gone elsewhere had it not been so hard to find an alternative at that time of year (January) Do your research first!!!

“Take your own bedside lights along - or stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

We had booked for 5 nights in the pre-Xmas week and requested a mid-level floor on one of the 25 story towers. I then specifically telephoned them to ask if they had wi-fi (answer: no! -upon which we bought a chip for our I-Pad), to tell them we would arrive after closure of the reception and to remind them of the request of an unit on a mid-level floor, asking to note my name and spelling it out carefully. We did arrive after hours to find keys marked for us for a unit on level 5 - almost ground. When complaining next morning at Reception, we were told "You should have rang us" but when I said we had done exactly that, the receptionist just kept repeating the same... Eventually we were given keys to a unit on level 14 and told to move our belongings. The first unit had only one bedside light in the main bedroom - and it did not work. The second unit had again only one bedside light - and again it did not work! When we took it to Reception asking for an exchange, they told us they had to phone the owners first for permission: Wow oh wow!
We had stayed in this place ten years ago and it was then fine but meanwhile it is really run down: the toaster was rusty, the knives don't cut anymore, one needs matches to start the gas stove, there is no exhaust in the bathroom/toilet and the bad smell lingers on for hours...
True, the view is fantastic over the long beach. But there were so many things to spoil the stay that the view could not compensate it. For us: never again!

Room Tip: From about floors 10-18 on the Northern Tower but ideally a different place altogether.

“Excellent Apartment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We were really delighted with with our stay at this apartment. We booked a one bedroom apartment and I was expecting something small and quite basic as the price was around £70 per night.

What we got was a huge 2 bedroom apartment which was excellent really comfortable and well equipped. It was actually better than my own apartment at home. It had a wonderful view of the beach and two balconies. The underground parking was very useful too. the area was excellent and the beach shops and restaurants were only a short walk. The staff were also friendly and helpful.

When we visited the gym was closed but that did not matter to us. The only thing that was surprising was that the only internet available was a wired connection that cost $3.50 per 15 mins. Free or cheap WiFi would have been nice as we wanted to check out a few places to go online but it was not really a problem as we just bought a cheap 3G SIM which did the job.
