“gold coast luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Just got back from 5 nights at the Sheraton. Overall, a wonderful experience, but - on arrival the front desk service person was nothing short of rude! Our room was not ready and after asking twice what time it may be ready, we were given the same response "we guarantee 3pm check-in". That was not the answer to our question. We then asked her to call housekeeping and find out what time our room would be ready. Not impressed at having to instruct a receptionist at a 5 star hotel on a little customer service. Then we were given a room straight above those rooms that were being renovated. Drilling into concrete was not something we needed to hear. After calling guest services and asking for another room, the initial response was' oh.. it would have been on your email' and 'it will stop at 5pm'. We had to insist on being moved. We were finally moved to another room on the other wing of the hotel. We were perplexed as to why you would fill rooms in the areas being renovated when other rooms were vacant. Unfortunately again, we were initially made to feel that our request for another room was an imposition. From there, things only got better. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Food and beverage is expensive, but the facilities (pool, pool bar) and location are outstanding. More positives than negatives and we would definitely go back.

“Mixed experience here...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Family stayed here over Christmas break for 5 nights. I was drawn to this Starwood property from the images on the website - they looked very inviting. But on personal view, images can be somewhat deceptive... The resort was clearly run-down (tired and worn-out) but that is made apparent in the website notes, so I was aware of it - but it took the glamour out from our stay.

The pool(s) look very ordinary (blue painted bottom is passe...); the general beach frontage was nothing impressive - I've seen a lot better - this property has a 1980s reminiscence to it, nothing quaint or rustic or romantic.

As a Starwood Platinum member, I also expected something better - on prior notice to the resort, I requested that a renovated room was priority. That was given, but it had a partial sea view, mediocre sized - except for the 'newness', nothing to brag about, considering that the room was priced at rack-rate of $500/night for the season (but I used SPG points). It was definitely not worth the price tag. Furthermore, no breakfast privileges, and I baulked at the $40+ price tag, except on Christmas morning. Come Chritmas day, what we saw in the restaurant was reminscent of a food factory churning out huge volues of food, replinishing emptying trays/dishes, and queues getting longer as a large number of morbidly obese people walked by stuffing their plates... a truly awful sight. I felt sorry for the staff who seemed to be called around for attention from almost every corner. Gordon Ramsey would have just freaked out at the sight....

Room service was a bit of a shocker - there is an $8 service charge for room service. So if you just want a $20 sandwich, that and addition $8++...

Staff and attention were acceptable, 'Australian standard'...

Dear TripAdvisor Contributor, on behalf of Mark Sexton, who is currently away from the resort, I thank you for staying here at Sheraton Mirage over Christmas with your family, and for taking the time to post a review. We appreciate your feedback but were naturally all disappointed to know our resort did not meet your expectations, and for this we apologise most sincerely. Our goal here at Sheraton Mirage is to exceed guest and patron expectations, so if you could spare the time to make contact with me on peter.elakis@sheraton.com to elaborate on your feedback, this further information would assist us greatly, particularly in relation to our staff and attention as you clearly did not experience our usual high level of warm, friendly and personal service. Thank you again for your gift of feedback. Warm regards, Peter Elakis (Food & Beverage Manager)

“great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We had 3 glorious days here arrived 30th december 2011 and left 2nd january 2012.Would highly recommend the Sheraton we had a wonderful 3 days. The location is very close to Seaworld about 5/10 minute walk.

There is a wonderful pool which you swim up to for a drink great idea. Also really comforable loungers to laze around on.On New Years eve they had 2 fireworks displays both of them really great one of them was at 9pm the other at midnight so well spaced out for younger children.

Spoilt for choice with in house restaurants and bars. The breakfast was smorgasboard and a great selection of things to eat as was the evening menu again superbly presented and great variety of food.

While there on New Years day we went for the high tea which was very nice.

There is a truly super shopping centre which you can walk to from the hotel almost adjacent
with wonderful shops and restaurants. We had a couple of meals at different places and enjoyed them. Also from the restaurants you look out to the Marina which is very nice indeed.

We had great accommodation in the Palm area which was lovely and we had 2 beautiful white swans outside swimming by all the time very peaceful. We had adjoining rooms which is a great idea if travelling with young children

The Sheraton is very close to beach so you really have the best of both worlds. There is also a great boardwalk to walk along and is very pleasant to walk along in the evening or anytime really.

The staff at Reception and Porters were all very helpful and very nice even providing umbrella's on one of the days that was a bit wet.Overall we were very happy with everything and plan to go back again in the future hopefully stay a bit longer and soak up the luxury.

Room Tip: The Sheraton has a card system you can sign up for.It is worth doing as you get discounts off food,d...

“Best spot on the Gold Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I loved this resort. It's the ultimate in laid-back, resort-style holidays. Everything about our break was great other than the number of days we stayed - it was too short and the time to go home came around too fast.

I booked an Oasis Room and it didn't disappoint. A very spacious and well-appointed room in an excellent location - handy to the pool, restaurant and beach.

The breakfast in the restaurant each day was fabulous, while dinners at night were delicious and varied. If you're going to the bar on the reception level, be sure to ask for a Cosmopolitan. There's something about a Cosmo in a resort that really adds that holiday feel.

A suberb location, very nicely revamped facilities and decor compared to the last time I stayed - this is an A+ holiday destination. Loved it.

Room Tip: Consider the upgrades from a Garden Room. I've stayed in the Garden Room before and felt the Oa...

“Annoying lay out, poor front desk service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We just returned from staying at this property after reading rave reviews. Overall, it was not that impressive.

We had booked the room through hotels.com. When we arrived at the resort, they hadn't received the booking so we had to wait for almost an hour for it to be sorted. By then my son and I who were starving went to the pool for some food and my husband went up to the room. He had rung twice over 15 minutes for our bags to be taken to the room but it wasn't until my son and I finished our food and walked up to the lobby to see the trolley with our bags still on them and we had to personally request them to be delivered, that they were actually delivered. There was an idle bellman there who took them immediately when we asked.

So, even though we had to wait for the room to be sorted, we were placed on an unrenovated floor as far from the lobby as possible. I was surprised as I had received better recognition of poor service from Sheratons in the past. Is this because we booked it through hotels.com? i don't know.

The front desk had kept all of my travel papers and we had to retrieve them ourselves.

The layout of the resort is like a rabbit warren - lobby on level 3, rooms below and it is so spread out. This wouldn't be bad if the signage and directionality made sense, but it is all counterintuitive (and I have a great sense of direction, even when I first had to negotiate my way through the NY underground subway system).

The best service was at the Oasis poolside cafe and at the breakfast buffet. The buffet is amazing. Fresh and delicious food (except for the scrambled eggs, but these are difficult to keep well in bain maries in most places) and mountains of it!

Would we stay here again? The jury is still out on this.
