“Friendly staff in an ideal location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Avra for Two weeks in July/Aug 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Our room was on the second floor and had a great view towards Thira and Mesa Gourno. The room was cleaned every day by one of the cheerful cleaners.
The breakfast is typically Greek but plenty of it. The pool is plenty big enough for the size of the hotel. The Avra is only a matter of a five minutes stroll to the beach.
Along the road to the beach there are two supermarkets, a resturant and a snack bar. Call at the SPLASH BAR for a snack or a drink and say hello to Fortini and her friendly staff.
As Arnie says " WE WILL BE BACK"

“Great Value Hotel in Santorini”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

Used this hotel as a base to explore Santorini whilst island hopping. Paid 40 euro's per night for 2 people including breakfast which is good value, for the island. Rooms have fridge and aircon and the hotel has a nice little pool. Hired a quad bike for one day at 20 euro's and was able to see the whole island. Town has good bus links into Thira town up until midnight.
Kamari is very much a package tourist resort with plenty of places to eat (reccomend Amalthia and El Greco), although if you are looking for serious nightlife i would stay in Thira town as taxis back to Kamari can be expensive. Santorini is not great for beach a holiday, but the sights more than make up for it.

“Great location to relax and discover Santorini !!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

During July, I spent 5 days at the Hotel Avra in Santorini. This has been one of our best vacations ever. And we are very keen to return. Hotel Avra is very clean with excellent location , just 50 meters from the beach.

Some comments about the hotel :

- Location
The Hotel is in Kamari just 50 meters away from the beach. You can easily walk to the beach in 3 minutes. On the road to the beach there 2 minimarkets, very well supplied, where you can get all kind of groceries, snacks, etc.Once in the beach you can find dozens of restaurants , with plenty of options, and very reasonable prices.

- Reception
The reception staff was very friendly . When I arrived, they offered us instead of 2 double rooms, one family room with 2 bedrooms , which was excellent for us. They also provided us with a map of Kamari and directions and references to restaurants in the area. We have the impression that is a family running the hotel, and all of them were always very friendly.

- Room
I booked 2 double rooms , but was offered a family room . The room was very clean, of good size for all my family, with comfortable beds. A very well supplied kitchenette, one TVs with local channels. The bathroom was also fine. The AC worked nice all time.

- Breakfast
The breakfast was good. Included Juice, milk, coffee, bread, cheese, yogurt, cereal , etc. Not really very fancy, but enough to start the day.

- Beach
The beach is just 50 meters from the hotel. Once in the beach, plenty of space, parasols and sun chairs for rent ( 7 euros per day for one parasol and 2 sun chairs ). Also, dozens of restaurants, bars, etc. A great atmosphere in the beach , both during day and night.

- Transportation
The hotel has an excellent location in Kamari, as you can walk to the beach, restaurants and minimarkets, and if you do not plan to explore the island , you do not need a car, but if you plan to go to the Caldera and explore the island, is much more convenient to rent a car, quad or motorcycle. In my case I rented a car as I arrived to Santorini Airport, and in a short 10 minutes drive we arrived to the hotel. By car you can get to Thira in 15 minutes. Public transportation is available, and you can walk 7 minutes to the bus stop in Kamari that will take you to Thira. It is highly recommended to go to Thira and Oi for the best views of the Caldera. The Hotel has free parking.

- Swimming Pool
There is a nice swimming pool at the entrance of the hotel. It is not very big, but enough for the size of the hotel. It also has chairs and parasols.

- Internet
There is no internet in the rooms, but there is free wireless in the lobby, which is convenient if you bring your laptop.

I would recommend the Hotel Avra in Santorini , because has a great location, both for just staying relaxing in the hotel and beach, or to explore the island.

“Conveniently situated, clean and basic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

We stayed at the Avra for a week in August and had a great time. The accommodation is located in the resort of Kamari at the far end of the resort and is throwing distance from the beach. The rooms are basic but clean, with a fridge, tv and air con. The safe costs 1 euro per day. The pool is small but lovely and quiet (even in high season). Breakfast consists of bread, jam, cheese, ham, cereal and coffee.

We liked the resort, everything is close at hand and there are glimpses of real greek life, although admittedly it is a resort for holidaymakers. There are plenty of seaside restaurants and bars and little shops. We had plenty of good food whilst there and tried many different restaurants. The beach was pebbly, the Avra end was very quiet and we preferred this to the other end. Two sunbeds and a parasol cost 7 euros per day. Yes, there are planes every day as the airport is in close proximity but we quite enjoyed that.

The island is small and the bus service is cheap and reliable, although buses are packed. There are regular buses to Thira, the capital and the journey takes about 15 minutes. It is well worth a trip to Thira to see the sunset and marvel at the prettiness of the town. There's plenty of life here, decent restaurants and bars and lots of shops on the windy roads. We found the views of the caldera stunning and the white, cube houses very pretty.

Overall, we really enjoyed our holiday and would probably go back. It was a relaxing break.

“Highly recommended”

Stayed for 2 weeks in June 09.
Basic room, in a family run hotel - but what a lovely peaceful location, we stayed in room 2, (i think, ask for the room over reception) balcony was private over the entrance to the hotel, facing the main road. We never heard a thing.
Breakfast was basic, but fine, the pool was great, room service was excellent all contributing to a very relaxing 2 week break.

Any review wouldn't be complete without thanking Dora who worked on reception, who was very friendly throughout our stay.

Enjoy!
