“Horrible Hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2007

I booked a holiday through a local Danish travel agency for one week to Santorini between18th and 25th August. First time I saw Santorini was in a Bollywood movie, where I got pretty facinated by the beautiful blue see, blue/white houses on the hill and wonderful blue sky. I said to myself, this is it! I have to go there. Finally after 4 years of waiting and saving money, the dream came true and we arrived to this wonderful island! What can I say about Santorini.... I think I will say only one thing... the Island itself was worth all the money and excitement! Hotel Astro.... what can I say? Horrible! I travel a lot myself and have been staying in hotels a lot. Hotel Astro... I won't call it a hotel at all! For the money we paid, it gave us nothing in return! It was me, my girlfriend and my little brother, who were travelling together. First off, we had asked for a 1 room apartment, and they told us that there will be a bedroom for me and my girlfriend and a small entrance room with a place for couch for my litte brother But guest what? They put us all in one single room with 3 beds beside each other? Now tell me how hard that is for a young couple with a little kid sleeping beside? OK.... we managed somehow.

Dirty hotel! The shower was some kind of barbie bathroom shower and worst of all.... no curtains and door lock. So, anyone took shower, the whole bathroom would get wet. And during a toilet visit, we had to scream out and let each other know that do not come in, since there's no door lock.

Breakfast which was not included although we paid so much! We had to buy it seperately for 6 € pr person. Trust me, it was only one day we ate there, just to try and it was only bread, juice, butter and some other food, totally not worth the money. We used the local restaurants instead.

Cleaning... Me and my girlfriend delt with it ourselves basically. I personally dried the floor myself everyday. To change the sheets and towels, we had to go and ask it ourselves. The cleaning lady was there only twice during our one week stay.

Staff.... only one nice guy there, who barely understood english, luckily I can speek russian and he could speek serbian, so figure out yourselves how me managed ;) Although we managed to communicate, he couldn't do much to help us, since the hotel itself does not have the resources to facilitate its' guests. The hotel manager was the angriest man I had ever seen. He looked at us as if we were staying in his bedroom without his persmission!

The only good thing about Hotel Astro: Location!! And that's the ONLY good thing! It is located only 100m from the beach and 20 min from Airport. We had rented a car and guess what? The hotel doesn't even have a parking lot. Upon arrival, when I asked where to park, the staff said, just park on the street and FYI.. you are not allowed to park everywhere.

Generally... for that money, we could have gotten a 1 room apartment for 3 persons right infront of the beach with much better facilities. If you are thinking of picking this hotel.... I'm telling you... please don't! Don't believe the positive reviews of the people who gave the hotel 5 out of 5. They are probably not those who travel a lot and haven't seen and experienced how the prices are around europe and Santorini itself.

I would never go to this hotel again! But Santorini.... deffinately!!!

Ask me if you have questions. I'll do everything you help and send you pictures. I took on purpose many photos of this hotel, so future travellers won't make the mistake I made, by booking this hotel!!

“Close to lovely beach!”

Stayed at Astro for two weeks. Rooms nice and clean and cool with A/c. No curtain in shower however was nice when you were hot after being in the sun as you didn't feel closed in. Breakfast very basic and boring, was craving other food after a week. Fridge in room is great to keep your drinks cold. Used pool only once in 2 weeks as the beach was much more appealing & only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Lovely restaurants and bars in Kamari, would highly recommend 'Saliveros' for real home made greek food. Bus ride gets you to Fira in 15 minutes and Oia in 30 for the sunsets. Would highly recommend 'Dinner with Gods' tour with Kamari tours, transfer and fabulous 4 course meal in stunning hotel at cliff top with amazing views of sunset for 30 euros each, well worth it!

“Not best hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2007

I don't recommend this hotel and I don't recommend staying in kamari beach as you miss the spectacular views that beautiful santorini offers. Better head to Fira or Ia village, even if the beach is not so close.
We stayed for 5 night in a studio in Astro Hotel, with a cold spooky hospital like atmosphere. You were never very happy to return in your hotel room. It was not so clean and everything in the room and in the hotel looked like being very old. There were also 2 little dead cockroaches that the cleaning staff missed for several days. The shower was broken and the window did not close properly so one night we woke up by the window being opened by a strong wind. Only the sheets were nice white and clean.
The breakfast was the same every day and not very good: ham, cheese, marmelade and yoghurt.
All in all not a very pleasant stay.

This hotel is in a great location for everything, food, drink, shopping and just strolling around. It is very clean and tidy, the towels were changed every day even if you did'nt use them !.

One of the best restaurants we went to was 15 yards down the street 'Sellada' it was a nice size and they made you feel welcome. If you go for a drink later on you must try 'Loveboat' on the beachfront, the owner Fanis is really friendly, we were in Kamari last year and he remembered us from then ! he comes over and gives you 'flaming sambucas' which you get used to after a few days. It also has all the Sky sports on so you can sit and get merry watching sport.

“Great hotel/apartment, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2006

If you are looking for a place to stay on Santorini for a reasonable rate in an excellent location, I would reccommend Hotel Vila Astro in Central Kamari.
The rooms are an excellent size equipped with kitchen/bedroom/bathroom and terrace facilities in a white/sky blue med type colour and atmosphere. I stayed in a family sized apartment on the ground floor with high ceilings and a 1st floor bedroom-cum-balcony and the room was adequate apart from a couple of hiccups, namely with the air conditioning not working as the remote control wasnt present neither was the air conditioning within touching distance to the ground, the Greek style bathroom shower tray missing a shower curtain/screen. If you are to take a shower in this, watch the floor and try not to slip on it once you finish up because it is easy to do so. The Television was not so good either because with the volume turned up sky high, you can still hear a pin drop.
The staff were good, the cleaner turned up always on time and was very friendly and did a good job, the hotel receptionist/owner was a male in his early 30s who spoke good English and also did a good job on the bar outside as well. He was very friendly, loved to have good jokes and kept recommending his sisters restaurant down the road, it is worth trying, as the food is good, its always packed and dishes are big.
Looking around the island at other places where mates stayed, I would say that I had the best of the lot in terms of space and location, and I would go and stay at Vila Astro if I were to find myself on Santorini again.
