“Excellent Naturist Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2010

We must have checked in to the wrong hotel having read some of the previous contributions! If you read some previous reports from us you may gain an understanding that we are not easily pleased. The Vera Playa hotel is brilliant, the food (contrary to what others say) is outstanding, the variety is very extensive at every sitting and most fish and meat is cooked to order before your eyes. The service staff are very efficient and friendly, and regarding the sparrows, this is not a problem unless you leave your breakfast on the table unaccompanied. Overall, the hotel has a great relaxed atmosphere and guests from all nations are friendly and everyone makes an effort to chat to each other. Of course, you have the odd weirdo (more often than not a single man) perving around the pool, but naturist venues will always be an attraction to these sad individuals. The hotel room, reception and pool area are very clean and well maintained, beds are good quality, however the hotel could do with a little cosmetic update in some areas but this can be understandable in the current economic climate. We were surprised to meet couples who had paid as much as a £1000.00 more for a two week stay booking through Penge Travel, we booked on-line with Travel Republic and got a great deal (we did call Penge to see if they could offer a comparable deal but they wouldn’t move on their brochure prices). The only negative we found was the hotels evening entertainment; this is chronic unless you have children! English guests are certainly in the minority and little attempt is made by the entertainment staff to accommodate the English language, however when it is attempted it is incomprehendable. We only walked down to the beach once because we were happy to stay around the excellent pool all day where drink and food is 'on tap' all day, but the beach is clean although a bit shingly on the feet. The only reason why we won't return next year is because of the evening entertainment that focused on about six children until midnight totally ignoring and insulting the majority adult guests. There is little alternative entertainment outside of the hotel other than a cafe' like English bar (Frankies), a gay bar and swingers club. After midnight the hotel's disco opens but we only stayed until 1.30AM whereupon it remained quiet and lacked atmosphere (no DJ just piped music). Overall we had a brilliant holiday at the Vera Playa Club and would recommend it to others. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you want any more specific information. Finally, a message to the hotel management, consider increasing the entertainment budget and raise your game with the entertainment quality focusing on the majority adult guests; the children are more than catered for during the day and early evening.

Rooms not too bad, have been to better naturist hotels, Food poor, flies on dishes, and outside service, also bad with sparrows pecking at the food. Would not recommend eating in hotel, I used to go out to the Blue Parrot, where I found meals that I could enjoy, some nights they have entertainment on, and the owners were very friendly, tried Frankies Bar, but not much going on.

“Just So Relaxing”

Stayed here for 10nights in Aug and couldn't have had a more relaxing time. Our room was well kept, the food although not outstanding, you would need to be really fussy to go hungry. Pool was brilliant. Animation team seemed to put a lot of effort in but didn't put anyone under any pressure to join in. I have stayed in Vera Playa several times but i think i enjoyed the hotel most of all. I hate to use the term 'specialist hotel' as i found everyone to appear to be and behave perfectly 'normal' ,perhaps even better but without the restrictions of clothes. I saw no bad or untoward behaviour and would not hestate to recommend that people give it a try at least once in their life. The staff were helpful although i suspect the recession is having an effect.

“A very very relaxing holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

This was our first trip to Vera Playa but it certainly won't be our last! Altogether, this was the most relaxing and restful week's holiday we have had in a long time.

The hotel itself is pretty modest although kept clean and well maintained. The rooms and public areas are dated but fine. The outdoor freeform pool with adjacent jacuzzi is very attractive although the bodies do end up clustered pretty close together on the loungers by the pool. We chose to spend our days down at the fantastic naturist beach, where the hotel has some loungers and shades (daily rental at extra cost), popping up to the pool to cool off from time to time. There is a gate offering direct access from hotel to beach next to the pleasant indoor pool which provided a warmer swimming experience, very nice at the end of the beach day.

The restaurant is classic 4 star hotel large scale buffet. Far from great but adequate for a week. The outdoor dining terrace is really fine though. We went half board which had the flexibility of taking either lunch or dinner each day and mostly went out for dinner in the evening. There seems to be a good range of restaurants in the area (hire car required and driver stay off the drink-in addition to that being the only right thing to do the police are all over the roundabout near the hotel at night) and we particularly liked the steakhouse on the road into Garrucha.

The short street running up to the hotel has a number of unremarkable shops, bars and restaurants and could well do with some smartening up but it is an ok enough place to have a couple of drinks.

Overall though, the great beach and the easy naturist atmosphere round the hotel make for a really relaxing time where you just feel the stress dropping off. We'd really recommend it!

“excellent entertainment team and relaxing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2010

I have stayed at this hotel several times: my first visit was in 1998. Initially I loved it : it subsequently seemed to go downhill a bit after two of the entertainment team (Miryan Carrasco and Elisabet Peral) left, but I really enjoyed my latest stay. The current entertainment team (David, Leticia and Marylu) were outstanding, working very hard both for the daytime activities (aquagym, aquavolley, aerobics, tonificacion, etc) and for the night-time entertainment.
In August there was (as usual) a very Spanish feel to the hotel, which I like: Germans and Brits were in a minority. There was quite a ‘family’ feel to the hotel with a wide mix of ages. It was noticeable that most of the Spaniards seemed to choose the east side of the pool, ie facing the evening sun, whereas the Germans and Brits seemed to base themselves at the west end of the pool (facing the morning sun). There is a good lukewarm jacuzzi and a good high-pressure shower at the west end of the pool. There is also a small gym, and a library with a surprisingly large number of English books left by previous guests.
In my opinion the restaurant is much better than some reviewers have given it credit for. There is a good choice at breakfast and a very good choice at both lunch and dinner. There are a lot of interesting Spanish dishes, especially different types of fish (with some delicious anchovies and very good smoked salmon). Personally I prefer to have my main meal at lunchtime (to take a break from the sun) and the restaurant is not very crowded then. It does get crowded in the evening when most of the ‘half-board’ guests take their main meal.
The room balconies have small airers on which you can peg out small items of clothing and towels to dry. This is a very useful facility (even in a naturist hotel where not much clothing is needed) which some other beach hotels don’t have.
The one disadvantage is that single guests almost always seem to be placed at the front of the hotel where the rooms are quite small and are noisy until the entertainment stops at about midnight. It is not the place for anyone who wants an early night! The night-time entertainment is usually quite good and worth watching: the only exceptions are a couple of nights when there is some very bland live music (eg 'tie a yellow ribbon' sung in a Spanish accent !).
I enjoyed the hotel so much that have already booked another trip for later this year.
