“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

I was amazed when I read some of the recent reviews. Do some people not check the internet before they book to find out where the place is situated. I found the directions on the website easy to follow. Checking via Google View also helps.

In deciding how I rate a guesthouse I take account of what can be expected of the average guest house and the main things I look for are the standard of the guestroom, the breakfast and the how friendly the hosts are. In all areas I have to give this guesthouse 5 stars. The bedroom was spacious and was up to the standard of 4 star hotels. The breakfast was very good and Mrs Reid and Henry could not have been more friendly. As regards eating out Omagh, is only a short drive and has many restaurants, Grants restaurant is worth a visit. We will certainly be back in Co Tyrone next year, but only if there are vacancies in the Greenmount Lodge.

“Very quiet and peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

The Greenmount is located well away from town. It is very quiet and pastoral. The host was pleasant and had a detailed knowledge of local history. The only downside is that the closest restaurant is a few miles away and it is not very good.

“Wish I would've chosen another B&B”

My husband and I stayed here last week, for 2 nights, during our honeymoon trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland. I must say that I was left wishing I had booked elsewhere. The house itself was nice, as was the area and grounds, but the service was lacking.
My husband and I did get a king size bed which was nice, however the tv was positioned in such a way that it was blocked by a shelf so you couldn't watch it from one half of the bed. The decor of the room was dated. When asked where we could find a bank to exchange our money for pounds, we were told "all towns have banks some even have three or four"; as if this answers our question. In the morning I ordered scrambled eggs and bacon... the bacon was so salty I couldn't finish it and my eggs weren't thoroughly cooked... I don't eat runny eggs. In fact we found the breakfast to be so subpar, we decided to pay for a breakfast elsewhere the next day rather than eat what was offered for free there. All of this was minor inconvenience to us, and could have been no big deal (certainly nothing to complain about on trip advisor), but then it got worse.

The kicker for me was when we left after the 'breakfast' we were served we enjoyed a day at Bushmills, Dunluce Castle, and the Giant's Causeway (all within a decent drive and definitely worth seeing), we arrived back to our room to find it had been cleaned, and the door left OPEN. I'm not sure if it's normal practice to leave people's valuables available for the taking to anyone who cares to venture into the open room, but where I come from we at least shut the door. Luckily none of our stuff was taken, but that's not the point, the point is, it could have. Also, whatever cleaning agents used had a very perfumed scent which would be fine if you aren't like me w/ bad allergies and sensitivities to certain perfumes. I couldn't stop sneezing the whole evening. Most places use cleaning agents that are unscented or have a slight smell for that reason, but not here.

I'm giving this place a rating of poor only because it is set in a good location, otherwise I'd give it terrible; for me, leaving my valuables open for the taking is unacceptable, and I wouldn't touch this place again if it were the last place to stay.

“A good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

Stayed here a few weeks ago and found it to be like a typical rural irish lodge. The owners were friendly and made a wonderful breakfast - homemade breads were particulary tasty! Rooms were spacious and beds comfortable, just a little dated. It's a shame the tennis court was not operational but overall, a good stay.
