“An unexpected pleasure. Magnificient views.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed here for one night in October 2011 after a booking mix up in Goathland. It was Halloween and nearly every Hotel in Yorkshire was full! We asked for a sea view and it didn't disappoint. The Hotel is just what you imagine when you think of a large english hotel by the sea. The room was huge with king sized bed. Our room was in the loft. Large bathroom, a little worn around the edges in some places, but well presented and clean. The view out over Robin Hoods Bay was one of the best I have ever had from any hotel. Spectacular. Buffet breakfast was well presented and plenty of choice. Staff were very friendly and common areas in the Hotel were very oldy worldy with leather lounges, panelled walls and lovely fireplace. Maginificent location. Another night or two would have been great. Great spot to discover Robin Hoods Bay and surrounding seaside landscape. Only down side, fairly isolated, there is no town to speak of so if you stayed for a few days unless you drove, you would have to eat all meals at the Hotel. But the food was nice so this would not be a problem. But the dinner bed and breakfast option would be best as the evening meal was just a little expensive when purchasing seperately. Overall a greatspot for a weekend getaway with so much interesting history.

Room Tip: Ask for "sea view room" worth the few extra pounds. Take the dinner bed and breakfast op...

“Very good for weddings.”

I stayed at this hotel for two nights in November 2011 for a friend's wedding. I had a single room with a fantastic view overlooking Robin Hood Bay. I did not pay for the view - but I would pay the £10 to guarantee the view if I return again. The room was big enough for two people. The room could have done with some decoration, but was clean and warm. The bed was wide enough, but a bit short leaving my feet sticking out of the bottom (I'm 5'10). The reception staff were welcoming and friendly. On the first night, we struggled to find bar staff and had to go searching for them each time we wanted to order another round of drinks. This did not happen on the wedding day, with a dedicated bar and plenty of staff. The breakfast was a little disappointing. Once you had been 'checked in' and sat down with your breakfast from the buffet you received little attention. We had to approach the waiting staff to ask for tea, coffee and toast. The view from the main dining room is breathtaking. The wedding venue itself is excellent - an area separated from the main hotel by a short corridor. In addition to the wedding room - the area had it's own dining hall, bar, toilets and smoking area. The wedding room later doubled as the evening reception room. This was a fantastic room with stone walls and wooden beams. The afternoon reception was a buffet style meal in a very spacious dining hall - the food quality was excellent. We were served the starter and pudding and the service was excellent. Overall, I would highly recommend this as a very good wedding venue.

Room Tip: Pay for a room with a view of the bay. Another tip would be to take your own iron - the iron provide...

“Can't wait to go back”

Just returned from a one night stay at Ravens Hall Hotel. Absolutely love this place, visited 17 year ago and now wondering why it took us so long to return. Will definately be back sooner next time. Lovely friendly staff, excellent room, clean and well furnished. Had a fantastic and unexpected sea view. Lovely furnishings throughout, big comfy sofas and roaring log fires, plenty of room to just sit, chill and enjoy the breathtaking views. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy the hotel as much as we would have liked or to sample the evening meal as we were off to a concert on the Friday night. However on Saturday morning we managed a lovely walk around grounds then braved the cold wind and walked along the Cleveland way into Robin Hoods Bay. This hotel is a real gem and really pleased as we got an excellent deal on Laterooms, in fact enjoyed it so much that we've already decided to go back next month!

“Wow what a view”

We booked a one night stay being first time visitors to this area having taken into consideration other trip advisor reviews. Te location of the hotel was remote in a spectacular spot overlooking robin hood bay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very good. We paid ten pounds extra for sea view money well spent. If you are planning a trip around Whitby or Scarborough well worth a stay here, half way between the two.
