“Sand, Sea, Sun -- Bliss!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

We just returned from our 2nd stay at Jardin Del Mar in Bucerias, Mexico, and it is one of the most relaxing places we’ve ever visited (and we’ve been a lot of places throughout the U.S. and Mexico with beach and sun!). While the location is easy to get to (just 12 miles from the Puerto Vallarta airport), it’s worlds away. Walking through the huge wooden entrance doors, and gazing out through the gardens to the sparkling pool and sea, you can literally feel the stress slip away.

If you love long walks on the beach, doing yoga on a wonderful rooftop palapa, watching the sunrise and sunset over the bay, delicious meals eaten out or prepared in your own kitchen, the soothing and constant sound of the waves touching shore, watching the wide variety of seabirds, kayaking from shore, or just kicking back with a good book and a dip in the pool -- this is the place to go.

While it’s easy enough to call a taxi to whisk you into town, we usually choose to walk along the beach to either Bucerias (about 35 minutes) or the smaller town of La Cruz (about 20 minutes). The marina in La Cruz sells wonderful, fresh seafood which you can prepare at “home,” and we like to pick up other food supplies from the local market or small corner stores in either town. If you don’t feel like cooking, there’s an abundance of excellent restaurants to choose from.

The “casas” at Jardin del Mar are comfortable, wonderfully decorated with original folk art, and furnished with everything needed for a relaxing stay. The property has the feel of a small hacienda, with the gracious owners (Jim & Maria) happy to answer questions, call a taxi, help with planning day trips, or just chat. They thoughtfully stock the fridge with a few essentials – like homemade guacamole, salsa, chips, cerveza, fresh squeezed orange juice and more! The gardens and grounds are impeccably maintained, filled with surprises at every turn – whimsical creatures, colorful mosaics, Mexican antiques and artifacts. This truly is a little piece of paradise, and we are already making plans to return.

“A perfect, tranquil spot in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2010

Jardin del Mar is top notch for accommodations in the greater Puerto Vallarta area, I agree with another review that I almost feel guilty giving away how nice this place is as it will certainly be harder to book in the future.

Jim and Maria have a beautiful property and are great hosts. They let my wife and I use their grilling area which was one of the highlights of our stay, it is a beautiful area to cook and enjoy food. The location is perfectly placed on a tranquil corner of the bay and very close to the Marina La Cruz.

It was a great stay at Jardin Del Mar and very easy to hop in the car and head to Punta de Mita, Sayulita, or PV.

“the best place we've stayed at in 20 years!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

This home is the most perfect place to spend time doing absolutely nothing but relax, breath deeply & find contentment. The host and hostess are wonderful - enough there for us: not too much, not too little. The grounds were delightful, the pool peaceful and the views - the bay, the 'everything' fablulous! Don't go if you want TV, phones, artificial noise - go for the sounds of nature, the pleasure of doing absolutely as little as is possible in pure contentment!

“In a sentence,I would say "This was a taste of paradise."”

In one sense, I am reluctant to tell the truth about El Jardin del Mar, because I don't want everyone else to fill up the spaces and make it harder for me to return. But to do justice to what Jim and Maria Jaramillo have created, I have to recommend it as highly as possible. The apartments for rent are each beautiful and well equipped for cooking, dining, and sitting. They are decorated with wonderful, indigenous Mexican artifacts, thanks to Maria's artistic eye. The gardens are lovely and filled with spots for eating and for sunning at all times of day. The pool is spacious and roomy, the views of the sea are spectacular. There are two local villages within walking distance on the beach just outside the garden wall, both with fish markets that offer the freshest seafood you have ever eaten. Most special of all is the care and welcome you will get from the owners, Jim and Maria Jaramillo. They are intelligent, generous, interesting, welcoming and attentive without ever being the last bit intrusive. The location is quiet but not far from lots of places worth exploring. Besides the villages you can walk to along the beach, a 15-minute walk up the hill will bring you to a bus that will take you to a further range of beaches and towns. If you share my values, you could hardly find a more congenial place to spend a week or three weeks. But don't go. I don't want you filling up a place I expect to return to!

“Pax Mexicana”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2009

Jardin Del Mar is a delightful oasis from reality. A small resort set right on the Bay De Bandeiras a short walk on the beach from Bucerias. For those who want to avoid the commercialism and crowds of Puerto Vallarta, Bucerias is a sleepy but diverse town close enough to visit PV or a short drive north to Punta De Mita. Run by a retired couple from New Mexico, Jardin Del Mar has only a few guestrooms but they are all spacious, air conditioned and outfitted with a kitchenette so you are not dependent upon only restaurants. A short walk on the beach north to La Cruz to the daily fish market for fish just off the boat (or lobster or prawns) and back to the outdoor grill at Jardin for a special dinner in your home away from home. Spacious swimming pool, kayaks and most accomodating hosts make this a delightful getaway just a half hour ride from PV airport. Highly recommended!
