“Way more than I expected!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Attending a family wedding, it was suggested that we all stay in the same complex.
When booking, I was offered a Junior suite to accommodate my adult daughter as well as my husband and myself.
I was surprised to open the door on a well refurbed lovely two room room, even heated floors toilet and bathroom!!!
All the little extras even toothbrushes supplied :)
Comfy beds and chairs, well set out and good size for 3 of us to share.
Staff very friendly, pool and spa lovely and the Cafe very well priced :)
Still here till tomorrow!!!
Just wanna know if I can keep the slippers LOL

Room Tip: Choose to your requirements, the Takahe suite is gorg where my sis is :)

Thank you for your kind feedback. A wedding in the family is indeed a special occasion and I am thrilled to hear we played a positive part in the day. Our Junior Suites are very practical (and popular) rooms, totally refurbished, as you mentioned. We look forward to welcoming you again in future.

“A wonderful Kiwi experience!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I live in UH, not too far away from Masterton, but I was determined to take my kids on an overnight trip! I was there in the 80's as a teen, so expected some change!!! Luckily it was better!!! My kids had a blast on that rainy day, the food was AMAZING (compliments to the Chef)...the hosts were wonderful...Janinine and Emma. I will be coming back next rainy day...(who needs the outdoors!!!) Absolutely no fault to be found...good on you xxxx

Room Tip: family orientated...no idea, was happy with the one I got!

Thank you for your review and choosing to return to our hotel after all these years – it is a great to hear your stay created a host of new and happy memories for you and your family. Since your last stay in the 80s, we’re proudly now a Qualmarked Four Star Plus hotel and have recently almost completed a full refurbishment cycle; having opened our new indoor pool, café, driving range and fitness centre in Dec 2011; which it sounded like your family enjoyed. The Wairarapa is a fantastic family getaway destination and as you say, the hotel is the ideal base for all weathers. We welcome you back anytime and many thanks again for your positive feedback.

“Always a good time :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I have stayed here a number of times.... And just today booked again for end of Feb :)
I find Solway Park excellent in many areas... Being born and breed in Masterton many years ago, it is great to come back to the familiarities of the Wairarapa with family and friends close by. (Not to mention many other shops, restaurants, takeaways not far away).

I have found it great for children and adults.... Restaurant, bar, games room, outdoor play area, golf range near by (with cafe), indoor and outdoor pools, housekeeping each day was No 1, and nothing is ever a problem at front reception. A self serve laundry is also available which I used frequently and found very good.

The refurbishing that has been done to Solway park is excellent and I can't to return in 7 weeks and counting :)

Regards

Jo Wilson (Burling)

Dear Joandherboys2011

Thank you for those kind words - we love to hear from our advocates, especially when they are spreading the word - fantastic, thank you.

As you say, we are a great spot for families and are close to Masterton as well as the wineries and local tourist attractions (Pukaha Mount Bruce has been of particular appeal this summer with their two rare white kiwis on show).

It is worth also mentioning that we have just in December opened brand new refurbishments at Cafe Solway, our driving range, indoor pool, fitness centre and squash court, which we are sure you will love when you are back in February.

Thanks again and we look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

“The larger the venue, the noisier it may be”

Stayed one night during a weekend; if you don't have dependants you may end up like we did, being woken by the children next door having a really loud screaming and yahooing play at about 7.00am on the sunday. Plus as a Hotel/function centre the music went on until midnight and 'loud' people passed by our room on the way to their room up to about 2.00am. Those guests booked into attend a hotel function shouldn't have rooms past those that aren't. With computers that must be easy to sort these days? However, the room was clean and the decor good. Would I go back? probably not, and mainly because of the noise.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and providing your feedback.
We were sorry to hear you had a disrupted stay due to our other guests in-house. We are a hotel with a large one-storey footprint and wherever possible I can assure you that it is our policy to allocate rooms strategically when we have functions in-house – that is, allocating rooms close to the function centre for those guests involved with a function, then utilising our other three wings for others – so there is minimal disruption all around. When the hotel is full, however, as was the case around the time of your stay, this is very difficult. We do ensure all functions music stops at midnight and keep the doors to the Function Centre closed to minimise noise from a function itself.
While we are a popular hotel with families because of our resort-style facilities, we do offer a selection of luxurious rooms perfectly suited to couples escaping for a night (some isolated from the main hotel wings) and do hope you’ll give us another try next time you are in our region.

“Pleasant place to stay - motel/hotel style property”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011 via mobile

I spent one night here as part of a conference and found the staff very helpful. The rooms are reasonable and the bathroom had recently been refurbished and was modern.

The TV in the room was tiny and the queen bed a push together pair of singles. There was no real view to speak of as the room opened out onto the carpark and made it more motel style than hotel.

The food from the restaurant was good and the wait staff were very friendly.

Overall this was a reasonable stay although I would be tempted to look elsewhere if staying in Masterton again.

Thank you for your review Tantooine_tour_guide. We appreciate your kind words regarding our staff, restaurant and refurbishments. We are regular hosts of conference groups and are more often than not given feedback from groups that our abundance of free and accessible parking is a real positive, so it was interesting to hear feedback from another angle. While it sounds like you stayed in what is called a Continental King Bed (allowing us to best meet the needs of our guests in providing either one king size bed or 2 singles), we do have several other room types, that have stunning views of the Tararua Ranges and our courtyard swimming pool that would perhaps be more suitable for your next stay. We are the only Qualmarked Four Star Plus Hotel in the Wairarapa and we take great pride in this, so hope to be able to host you again sometime soon.
Many Thanks.
