“Friendly, fantastic value hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2011

We have just got back from a lovely weeks ski holiday . The family who run the hotel couldn't have been more welcoming. The room was of a good size (especially for a skiing hotel), clean and for a 2 star hotel of a good standard. We all really enjoyed the food and felt there was more than sufficient choice and variety. Although the hotel is a (max) 10 minute walk to the cable car (there is a bus service) we hired lockers at the rental shop (under the cable car station) for 5 euros returnable deposit which meant we could leave our skis and boots and walk back to the hotel in our trainers!
Although they don't speak a lot of English at the hotel (were we in Italy!) they used translation software whenever things got complicated and we came away knowing a lot more Italian than we did when we arrived. Everyone we met in La Thuile was really friendly from the family who ran the hotel to the staff at the rental shop and the waitresses at La Cage. In terms of the skiing La Thuile suited our developing imtermediate skills.
We really enjoyed our stay and would definately return.

“Brilliant, cosy place”

We loved our stay in this hotel. La Thuile itself is beautiful, and this cosy little hotel is the epitome of the old town.

While the ski slopes are a 10 minute walk away there is a free ski bus that picks up from outside the hotel and takes you direct to the gondola. there is a boot room at the front of the hotel for all your equipment to save on the expensive lockers.

The staff were very friendly and spoke very good English, the buffet breakfast was good. cereals, pastries, yoghurts, bread & spreads. The evening meal was a delight. Antipasti buffet of cheeses, salad, meats, first course normally of pasta (3 choices), second course (3 choices) and a dessert. As a vegetarian i was well catered for.

“Loved this place!!”

I am prompted to write a review based on the negative comments made about this place. 8 of us stayed here in March of 2007 & we had a fantastic time.

The hotel is definately a walk from the slopes, but with the bus stop outside the door I had no complaints.

The rooms were large, clean & a lovely place to come back to after a day's skiing. The food was excellent & all our worries about eating in the same place for 6 nights came to nothing - they vary the options every night so it never gets boring!

The staff were so friendly. There's no bar area, but we spent many nights sitting on the couches in the lobby having some beers & playing cards.

“An excellent little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2008

Having read 3 terrible reviews about this hotel ,our group of 8 were delighted with what we found. It was warm, clean and comfortable and very very welcoming. The food was excellent and our waiter very good and friendly. Yes there is a short walk to the lifts but the bus service was prompt and the times were good. We tended to walk back at night as it was downhill! Lots of good bars very close with excellent and very generous nibbles to go with your beer.

We were just glad that the moaning minnies who wrote previous reviews were not there when we were. In fairness perhaps it has changed but the old reviews should be deleted.

“A lovely little hotel...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2008

We stayed at the Hotel San Bernardo in January, my first ski holiday, and after seeing some of the reviews - I was a little more than worried.

How wrong could they be!? I'm sure things must have changed since the previous reviewers stayed as ours was a totally different experience to the ones that they described.

We went with our friends (Mollari, see the previous review!) having booked the holiday via a website. After a 2 and a half hour transfer from the airport (the worst part....) we found that the hotel was at the end of the resort, a fair walk to get to the slopes, but you could hire a locker at the ski hire shop for a small amount. There was also a free bus if your legs were too tired to walk up the hill.

It was a nice resort, fairly quiet, though it did get quite busy on the weekend. The hotel was full and the half-board meals were more than sufficient. An all-you-can-eat continental breakfast (the best soft cheese ever!) and a 3 course meal of an evening which was usually a starter of chunky soup or pasta dish (massive!), a meat dish with veg and then a pudding of cake, ice cream or fruit, varying each night.

The staff were lovely and friendly and did their best to talk to you - though they did slip into their native tongue at times, they always had a smile on their faces... especially when the language barrier proved too much (e.g sors = sausage! :) The room was lovely and warm and clean, as was the hotel itself, and the bed was very comfortable.

All in all, for a 2 star hotel this place cannot be faulted and comes highly recommended.

The only thing that WAS faulty that week was my skiing ability.... :)

  • Liked — Cleanliness, friendliness, warmth and food!
  • Disliked — struggling to think of anything bad....
