We stayed at the Hotel San Bernardo in January, my first ski holiday, and after seeing some of the reviews - I was a little more than worried.
How wrong could they be!? I'm sure things must have changed since the previous reviewers stayed as ours was a totally different experience to the ones that they described.
We went with our friends (Mollari, see the previous review!) having booked the holiday via a website. After a 2 and a half hour transfer from the airport (the worst part....) we found that the hotel was at the end of the resort, a fair walk to get to the slopes, but you could hire a locker at the ski hire shop for a small amount. There was also a free bus if your legs were too tired to walk up the hill.
It was a nice resort, fairly quiet, though it did get quite busy on the weekend. The hotel was full and the half-board meals were more than sufficient. An all-you-can-eat continental breakfast (the best soft cheese ever!) and a 3 course meal of an evening which was usually a starter of chunky soup or pasta dish (massive!), a meat dish with veg and then a pudding of cake, ice cream or fruit, varying each night.
The staff were lovely and friendly and did their best to talk to you - though they did slip into their native tongue at times, they always had a smile on their faces... especially when the language barrier proved too much (e.g sors = sausage! :) The room was lovely and warm and clean, as was the hotel itself, and the bed was very comfortable.
All in all, for a 2 star hotel this place cannot be faulted and comes highly recommended.
The only thing that WAS faulty that week was my skiing ability.... :)
