“standard motel with a good restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2008

We selected this motel because of its proximity to Tongariro National Park and it had a separate bedroom with single beds for our child. We stayed for two nights

The unit had everything you require although the decor is definitely dated and the bathroom particularly is in need of renovation. We stayed in winter and were very warm - the heater worked well and the beds had electric blankets.

The motel units are joined by a verandah all the way along so you can walk from your room to the bar and restaurant without getting wet. We ate in the restaurant one night and the prices were very reasonable and the food was very good. They had kids meals available.

We found the hosts friendly . Overall our stay was comfortable.

“Standard Motor Lodge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2007

Clean with nice kitchenette. Not really anything special. We did appreciate the full cable TV selections while we recovered from our Tongariro hike.

“Cheap motel, cheap service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2007

There is nothing wrong with the accommodation itself, though, it's a rather simple for the price we paid.

The service was unbelieveble (rude). The host only knows how to answer any single question with one word..... Yes, No, OK, Hi, Bye.

  • Liked — Cheap. I paid $89/night In Saturday, out Sunday
  • Disliked — Service received from Host

“Quiet motel near town centre”

My wife and I stayed here for three nights, having picked Turangi as the base for walking the Tongariro Crossing, which was one of the highlights of our time in New Zealand. We had a motel unit, with a large living/dining/kitchen area, bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen had a fridge, cooker and microwave. The decoration and furnishings were simple but pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was a short walk into town, where there wasn't much to do, apart from visit the Tourist Office and have a meal. We paid NZ$110/night, which was reasonable value for money.

  • Liked — Quiet location
  • Disliked — Nothing negative to say

“Unique and homey”

One story motel. Quaint and friendly family atmosphere. Restaraunt was surprisingly good and they will bring the food directly to your room. Separate bedroom from TV room. Good for kids. Free newspaper.

Was warm in room when we arrived and there is no A/C (That is not unusual). Opened windows but bugs came in as there were no screens. Night air cooled off the room and the heat was not an issue. Stayed in Unit 11. The bed was very soft and made noise every time we moved. We both woke up a little stiff in the joints.

We liked the place especially the family feeling and would stay there again but we'd ask for a different unit with a better bed. Length of stay: one night.

  • Liked — The food and the friendly people
  • Disliked — The soft, noisy bed
