“Its adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

We chose Villaggio Calamancina from our timeshare service and while the property was adequate we will not return for a second visit.

We had a one bedroom/one bath on the 2nd floor towards the front of the property. There was a small balcony off the living area. The kitchenette served its purpose and there are good markets in town. Buy your own dish soap and sponges.

Upon our arrival, the cleanliness of the flat was questionable.

Although we would like to have rented a bike, we never did. There were only a few that were functional and they were never available.

There were dogs across the street that barked constantly. I understand this is outside the hotels control but it did cause us to keep the balcony doors closed a good portion of the time. Oh, I can't forget to mention the burglar alarms in the neighborhood.

The pool is lovely but the hours are odd. Proximity to the beach and the town is good.

Wi-Fi is available for a charge and only in the pool area.

The property photographs are misleading. The good views appear to be taken from the hotel up the hill. A few of the Villaggio Calamancina rooms may have something similar but as most of the buildings are at the bottom of the hill, I doubt it.

Some of the hotel staff are wonderful, helpful, gracious and knowledgeable. Others staff members…

“This is a lovely place, I am loth to share it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2010

Lovely people and atmosphere is friendly, the views are fantastic, everything clean and it is great to have a mini kitchen, you can go to the markets and find fresh produce, bring it back, put it into the big fridge then sit outside your own private patio and admire the loveliness of San Vito in peace. The rooms are not your classic 4 star ones, and don't expect all of that in Sicily, it is not the island for it and does not need to be, as it is a 4 star island, getout there and see it! The rooms have a lot more personality and flavour, high ceilings, different shapes, all done out in a rustic sicilian way. This place is so nice and the pool is perfect.

“Not the best ..... a bit disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2009

We stayed there at the end of September almost end of season, as a timeshare getaways. Not fantastic. We have 2 kids, 3 years old and 6 months. I think July or August would have been better.

KITCHEN:The kitchen area is really LIMITED literally, in the one bedroom apartment, 2 hot plates, no oven, really slow for cooking, no microwave, no kettle.....coffee maker...old tiny little silver thing which was too dirty to use...

TV: the tiniest TV I have ever seen (not good when you are stuck in when it s pourring down rain outside).

BEDS: Double bed, is not really a double bed....., it is 2 beds put together..no ideal for hubby and I.

ENTERTAINMENT: literally non existent, the staff was hanging around the swimming pool, smoking, looking at you, or going downtown, really awkward ... not that friendly

SWIMMING POOL: annoying thing is you have to wear a cap and it is shut between 1 pm and 3 pm...bad move for the kids !!!! for the first time I never went in the swimming pool....

DOWNTOWN and FOOD: not much going on, loads of restaurant but did not really enjoy anything, we struggle to find bread for a couple of days, and supermarket seem to shut doors whenever they feel like it, people semm to be sad or bored, never smiling, too tired I am not really sure...

APARTMENT: if you arrive late be ready to go to the supermarket to buy sponges and bin bags as nothing is provided unless you ask, and no wasking up liquid either, nightmare when you need to eat and wash afterwards.

BEACHES: excellent, 2 chairs and umbrellas 15 euros a day or go through the reception to get a beach service for the week...cheaper to go daily if the weather is bad !!! nice water and lovely sand

DOGS: our appartment was E12, NIGHTMARE when you stayed in, there were a couple of dogs in a house nearby constantly BARKING at night ,early morning, we had to have the windows fully shut in our bedroom, we did not really sleep...really annoying...

We rent a car, drove to the south was good..

AIRPORT, if you have a pushchair it will come out on a different conveyor opposite the cases conveyor, again there is no signs or anyone telling you where they are unless you ask....or you ll be waiting around for 20 minutes thinking that the pushchair got stolen somewhere....

OVERALL ...ok but if you have travelled around before, Spain, Cuba or the states on timeshare you won't really like it there is not much going for the kids apart from the beach and I am not sure this village converted in tourism resort made the Sicilian there happy ?????

BATHROOM: tiny in 1 bedroom flat, we can barely fit one tiny person in the

“I really recommend this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2009

I liked this hotel and recommend it. We stayed 9 nights in May 2009 and it was a fantastic holiday, we got a good deal and the room was clean, comfortable with full kitchinette.
Staff did not have much information about near by attractions and they didn’t have any brochure or flyer.
The Internet is very slow and doesn’t work inside the room; you should go to swimming pool area to get connection.

“A vacation within a vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2009

Calamancina was like a summer camp for adults and families. The perfect walking distance from the center of town, our apartment/room and balcony were a pleasure. Spotless and tasteful, with nice people all around. We liked their "everything is included" atmosphere: gated parking, beach chairs and umbrellas manned by a friendly lifeguard, mountain bikes, a pool, and plenty of staff. There were even nighttime shows at the tiny outdoor theater for kids (which we watched for a while in amusement, but didn't partake in--not having children of our own). It was nice in the evening to be able to sit outside at our own little table under a sun umbrella and sip drinks from our fridge while taking in the beautiful, sweeping view of San Vito from Calamancina's vantage point a quarter mile out of the center. HIGHLY recommended, if you can get a place there. FYI: We didn't book ahead, just showed up and got our place for 90 euro/night for 3 nights. I think it's more if you book ahead; but would be worth ensuring a place there, since they seem to fill up completely all summer.
