Where to begin?

I had an early flight out of Fiumicino on 9 Oct, so I opted to stay nearby. I checked on tripadvisor, and L'Oasi was listed there. However, the hotel is located 35km from the airport! (Granted, this was my fault for not checking the map, but the listing in tripadvisor could be improved)

Despite an email and two phone calls, I never received a written confirmation of my reservation. As was expected, when I arrived, they had no record of my reservation, nor an available room! After waiting a while, they decided to give me a room for a guest who hadn't arrived yet. I'm just glad I wasn't that guy.

Check-in went OK, and I was given a room. The receptionist even confirmed the rate that was quoted to me for the first room, which was nice. The rooms were spacious, and clean. The bathroom was also OK, although the shower was severely clogged.

The problems started again once I tried going to sleep. I could hear every sound coming from outside my window - voices, footsteps, it seemed that everything was amplified. Further adding to the cacophony was the constant sound of planes due to the hotel being situated on the takeoff / approach path to Fiumicino. Shortly past midnight, the sounds subsided, and I went to sleep, not very nice as I had to get up at 0400.

The final straw came upon checking out: I was charged a higher rate than that previously agreed upon. Apparently, the day receptionist did not adequately document my case to the night receptionist.

I paid just to leave and I am not going there again.

Pretty good hotel. We stayed here two nights with EF Tours. I liked the tile floors in the room. We had some problems with the power, we apparently overloaded it recharging our electronics, but there was a circuit breaker in the room. Once we figured out how to use that we were ok. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was decent. Outside of Rome, you must have your own transportation. A/C and phone worked fine (some in our group said their A/C didn't work). We were satisfied with this hotel.

We stayed there two nights as part of an EF Tours group. It is situated about 20km or so west of Rome proper, so if you don't have a bus or a car, it can be inconvenient to get into downtown Rome. The property is very nice, our rooms were clean and roomy, and the beds acceptable. Breakfast was a little sparse, mostly cereal and breads, with juice and coffee, but otherwise OK. There's a pool that costs 3Euros to use, which some in our group did. It seemed very much like it is advertised, a California-style motor lodge -- I've stayed at similar properties here in California. All in all, not a bad place if you don't mind being outside of Rome proper and have a means to get into town and back. Be advised that this and other hotels in Italy use the 3-pronged electrical plug. You can get an Italy-specific adapter at Radio Shack, etc., for under $10.

We stayed here with a group that was traveling together by bus. I understand it is a hotel that caters to groups. L'Oasi was clean, quiet, and the barmen and other staff were friendly and in some instances fun! They even went out of their way to get a FAX to me that was sent from USA because they thought it was important. ( it wasn't... but that's ok!) The hotel is some distance from Rome, so I don't think it would be good for those traveling by car of public transport, but if your group (ours was with EF tours) is headed here, don't fear! It was much nicer than some of the other places they booked us, even if the in-room frigde was scary.
